Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has surprised a care home resident with a very special and personal video message for her 60th birthday.
Julie Maskelyne has lived at Trowbridge Oaks Bupa Care Home for 4 years and celebrated her 60th birthday on 17th June.
She was enjoying her homemade cake and glass of bubbly when a familiar face popped up on the big screen in the care home living room. Julie is a huge fan of Ed Sheeran, so was overjoyed when the pop star began wishing her a happy birthday and thanking her for being his number one fan.
The surprise was arranged by Helen and Elissa, who both work for Bupa. They sent a message to the pop star’s fan club and eagerly awaited a response.
Helen Meaden, Activities Co-ordinator at Trowbridge Oaks, commented: “Julie is such as big personality at the home, so we wanted to do something special for her 60th birthday. We sent a message to Ed Sheeran’s fan club asking him to send a personalised video.
"We knew it was a long shot as he’s such a huge popstar, so you can imagine our faces when he responded with a video three weeks later. We couldn’t believe his generosity; we want to say a huge thank you. It absolutely made Julie’s day; she hasn’t stopped talking about it since.”
While accepting messages from popstars isn’t a regular occasion at Trowbridge Oaks, the surprise went down so well that the team are already planning their next star-studded appearance and look forward to adding more celebrities to their hall of fame in the future.
