Course Aims:
This eLearning course is designed to enable you to increase your awareness and understanding of Parkinson's disease.
The course begins by explaining what Parkinson's disease is, the main symptoms and the difference between Parkinson's disease and 'Parkinsonism's'.
Following this, the course outlines prevalence rates for the disease, and gives a brief history of the research into the condition.
The learner will then be given information on the causes of Parkinson's disease, before moving on to the second stage - the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease. In this stage, the learner will be informed in detail about primary motor symptoms of the condition, and also other common symptoms that an individual may experience, including 'freezing', hallucinations and impulse control problems.
The final stage of the course outlines the different treatment options available for an individual with Parkinson's disease, including medication, surgery and alternative therapies. The course also outlines good practice when working with individuals who have a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.
