Cumberland Grange is run by a hard working, pleasant and caring manager who is very hands on and assists the staff/residents if needed.
The staff are all so kind, attentive & patient with the residents. The staff appear to be a family who come together and help one another in their individual roles
and seem to have a nice friendship.
The activities are stimulating & enjoyable as I experienced them myself. The entertainment staff are active & enthusiastic.
The food is excellent and there are always snacks left out for residents to enjoy at their leisure.
All in all the home is beautiful and has a lovely atmosphere to it.
Unfortunately the cost of a stay is expensive.

My dad has been in memory lane for 4 months following a hospital stay. It has been a disappointing experience which has been very stressful & upsetting for me although my dad has been unaware due to his lack of capacity. The management do not appear to be interested in resolving concerns & a number
of safeguarding issues have been raised by Social Services. My dad's been on antibiotics pretty much the entire time he has been there and this initially made his dementia worse. However following a fracture which resulted in him going to hospital we were phoned and told they could not take him back as they could not meet his needs. This is after I was assured this would not happen as his baseline level couldn't be assessed until he was clear of infection. The carers overall have been lovely as have the cleaners, catering & laundry staff. I hadn't realised that the deputy manager & head of the dementia unit are married which I think raises a conflict of interest.

It is difficult to put into words the respect and gratitude I have for your staff. My mother was very seriously ill over Christmas and the care and concern shown to her and to our whole family was exemplary. Professionally and personally the attention to detail, calm, compassionate care and good humour
gave us a sense of being at home - amongst an extended family. Thank you!

from David G (Friend of Resident) published on 31 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

On a recent visit to the Tyspane Care Home in Braunton, North Devon to see a friend who was a resident, I was very impressed by what I saw. First Impressions.
The main reception area was very well set out making me feel I was visiting a hotel.
I was met by a member of staff who asked me who I had
come to see and asked me to sign in.
I was shown to my friend's room, which was very well set out and felt very homely, lovely and warm.
Having spent time with my friend I asked a member of staff if I could see the manager or assistant manager.
I was able to speak to the assistant manager who was so professional in every way and made sure that our conversation was confidential and that any concerns I might have had were explained. I also was able to speak to the senior carer looking after my friend that evening.
There was a really good feel to the home, all the staff are professional in their approach and look happy.
A well-run home, all credit to the manager, assistant manager and staff

Such a warm, friendly welcome from reception and being shown to the room, very comfortable, clean and bright, my friendly felt like a weight had been lifted from her.
Nothing was too much trouble, all the staff that came in her room told her their names. The manager came in to see if she was settled
and her needs all taken care of. A big thank you to all.
Kind regards.

We looked at a number of care homes when trying to find a suitable place for Mum. Barchester Lucerne House Care Home was the only one where we felt 100% comfortable that Mum's needs would be met. We were impressed by the calm, caring atmosphere and well-maintained surroundings at Memory Lane. It was
very reassuring to know that Mum was being cared for by carers specially trained in dementia care, during the last six months of her life. Lucerne House comes highly recommended.

My mum stayed at Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home for a week's respite, while I went into hospital for surgery. I had researched carefully to find a place that was caring, friendly and would meet her needs.
My first contact with Cumberland Grange was great - the lady on the phone was very friendly
and helpful and I arranged a visit. When I visited, I was very impressed with the facilities, how kind the staff were with the residents and how calm the atmosphere was. It was a very pleasant experience.
Mum absolutely loved her stay there, she commented how lovely and kind everyone was and how she'd been very well looked after. She made a special comment about how great the food was and she was encouraged to join in the activities that were happening each day if she wanted to.
When she returned home she was happy, mobilising much better than she had been previously and was full of praise for Cumberland Grange. So a huge thank you to everyone there for making Mum so welcome. You are all fantastic!

My father recently stayed at the Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home for a ten-day period of respite. The contact with the management team was totally professional and helpful throughout. My father has a complex medical condition, which required monitoring, and this was his first time away from his
own home and family for respite care. The understanding of his condition was good, with all involved making sure he was relaxed in this new environment. All the staff who were involved in his care were fantastic, making sure he was included in as many activities as possible to enable him to enjoy his stay. The meals were varied and the quality excellent. The staff maintained good contact with us, reassuring me throughout his stay, that he was at the centre of their care. During his stay, I was able to witness him interacting with many of the other residents during the activities. I cannot fault the Cumberland Grange in any way and want to say a big thank you to all the staff, at all levels, for everything.

A friend of mine, who suffers from dementia, has been a resident at Barchester Raleigh Manor Care Home for a year now.
It has been a real privilege to visit him in such fantastic surroundings.
Knowing that the staff and management put their heart and soles into caring for everyone to such high standards.
The
various rooms and facilities are exceptional in a state-of-the-art building, which enables the care home and team to give its residents the care and support they deserve and require. Everyone goes out of their way to help you! it's lovely there, they're all so friendly and welcoming.
The choices for activities and entertainment for the residents are seemingly endless and a lot of effort and thought goes into their weekly planning. Raleigh Manor keeps on surprising.
I know my friend enjoys his trips out to various places which they do, he really has discovered a whole new way of life and he is now eating really well and looking better for the whole experience!
Thank you Raleigh Manor Care Home.

Barchester Tyspane Care Home

from R A (Power of Attorney of Resident) published on 7 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I have co-power of attorney for a friend who has now been at Barchester Tyspane Care Home for five months. She settled in well and I found that the staff were always on hand to answer any questions we had on any subject. Her room is comfortable and well-furnished with a nice view of the garden. I imagined
that she would spend most of her time in her room because she values her privacy but, in fact, she has loved going to the lounge during the day and participating in the various social activities. On my most recent visit, there was an opera/classical singer who put on a fabulous show. My friend looked so happy and was singing along. The staff served food and refreshments during the performance and engaged with all the residents, singing or dancing with them and making it a really special event. This is the norm for the staff - nothing seems too much trouble and they look to engage at all times. My experience of the management, admin, reception and nursing/care staff has been extremely good.

Thank you for writing this lovely review, it is always heartwarming to receive such positive feedback. We believe that the Activities Team at Tyspane are a wonderful asset always seeking to provide good quality and positive experiences for our residents, their families and friends and we are pleased to hear that your friend is enjoying the social life on offer. The home is continually subject to re-decoration and regular maintenance and we are currently undergoing a WOW transformation to some of our bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas which will all add to the resident's wellbeing. Thank you.

Mum was well cared for and very content during her stay at Barchester Tyspane Care Home. Having been in for a respite fortnight she soon realised that being home alone with intermittent carers was not what she wanted. She needed security and company which she had in abundance plus continually smiling
faces from the staff.
After approximately three weeks, Tyspane was referred to as home.
Thanks to all the staff.

Reply from Aime Bown, General Manager at Barchester Tyspane Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to review our home. Respite is a great way to see if the home is suitable for a person's needs and we often find that people who may have been reluctant to come into residential care are pleased and surprised that they are no longer alone and they enjoy the security of being cared for and we are happy that this is the case for your Mum. Your positive comments regarding the friendly staff have been shared with the team. Thank you.
