Our relative was at Mortain for just over 1 year. His increasing vascular dimensia was well cared for by the staff and he was overall content. We were happy with the support he received until his recent death with efficiently, and staff were very friendly to us when we visited. Although the costs were
considerable we are happy with the quality of the facility and the standard of care.

Barchester Hazel Lodge Care Home

from S W (Respite Resident) published on 3 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Arrived at Hazel Lodge just a few days before Xmas until the New Year 2025. The first thing to say is how welcome I was made, next, we were shown to my room, which was clean and tidy as it was when we (my sister and I visited). Had dinner sitting with just one other person. In the afternoon after sorting
out my clothes, I spent sitting in the coffee lounge talking to the other residents. Upset a resident for the stupidest of reasons at supper time, and even so I enjoyed the meal. What I enjoyed about my stay was that there was something going on every single day, three times per day. Wonderful, because where I stayed last year there was Nothing. You only knew it was Xmas when your dinner arrived. All through my stay, I had good food. Good company. The staff, both carers and domestic were caring and friendly also willing to do anything (within reason) for me. The whole care home was clean, warm, and very friendly. And yes I would go back.

Barchester Hurstwood View

from Jane M (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Hurstwood View is described by dad, 'like a 5 star hotel!'. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, they are all so attentive and genuinely caring, patient and happy at all times. They also give respect to those residents who might just be happy to be in their own company and choose not to
always join in the huge range of daily activities available. Mum was also there last year, if only for a few weeks, but at a time when her health was at it's most challenging. The care she received was outstanding, and the care they gave us as a family equally so. 5 stars from us all and many many thanks to everyone!

Barchester Hazel Lodge Care Home

from Catherine M (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

After a sudden illness over Christmas I arranged for my dad to have a week long's respite at Hazel Lodge as he recovered. The hospital assessment was promptly arranged and the carer who came to see dad was reassuring and quashed any worries he had about going to a care home. The bedrooms and shared
spaces are very well done. The food is fresh and there is a good variety of dishes (catering for low fat as well), whilst the dining area provides a nice space for social connection for the residents. The staff are both caring and professional, as they managed all his medication and physical obs when he first arrived and stayed proactive about checking in with him to make sure he had what he needed as the week progressed.

I had a fall and fractured my pelvis and broke three rubs. As I had previously visited Barchester Mortain Place Care Home and was very impressed, on my release from hospital, I elected to come here. I have food allergies which are catered for beautifully. I am happy to be here and to be cared for by
such caring friendly staff. My friends and family are welcome to visit whenever they wish.

Barchester Wadhurst Manor

from D C (Respite Resident) published on 5 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

Whilst Wadhurst Care Home has many excellent facilities with excellent and kind carers, there is one aspect that really lets it down and that is the quality of the Food. It is generally served lukewarm and is very institutional and unappetising. The actual cooking of the food leaves a lot to be desired.
The cutlery is often dirty (overloaded dishwashers/poor rinse programme/dishwashers need a deep clean?) and the crockery, particularly cups/mugs show signs of previous use.

As soon as we arrived to be shown round Barchester Mortain Place Care Home, we knew it was the place for Mum.
All the staff go up and above to meet Mum's needs. As for Mum, she has settled quickly and is so happy.
Your brochure does not do it justice, you need to actually visit to understand the welcome
you get each time you visit and see the facilities. Each member of staff knows each resident, treating each as an individual, which gives it a lovely personal touch.

My father stayed at Barchester Wadhurst Manor for a very short period leading up to his final days, after a stay in hospital. Whilst this was obviously a difficult time, the staff were very caring and made sure he was comfortable and well looked after. As visitors, we felt welcome and looked after.
In that period, we had some emotional and upsetting discussions with the staff about end-of-life care but they were especially careful to ensure that we understood clearly what they were saying and able to do and that we were at peace with it. They even offered help for us to stay overnight. We are very grateful for the care and dignity they gave to my father.

My mother has been in Barchester Lydfords Care Home since November, she went for four weeks but has now decided to stay and not go home. The staff are great and look after my mother very well, they care for her and look after her very well. Mother goes to a number of the activities and they have something
on every day, she loves her breakfast in bed every day. The food is great and she often refers it to be like a five-star hotel. All the staff are very polite and helpful and my mother loves staying there.

My mum went into respite just before Christmas and decided very quickly that she would be happy to become a full-time resident. The staff are superb with Mum, they give her the respect and care she deserves and they anticipate her needs rather than just reacting. I had been responsible for all of Mum's
care needs and now I can enjoy being a daughter, still assisting Mum as I and she would like me to but I know that Mum is safe and happy whether I'm there or not. Cannot recommend this home enough. Primary needs are met to a very high standard and more than that, the home lives up to the company motto of celebrating life.

My brother, who was a resident of Barchester Dudwell St Mary Care Home from June 2021 and had severe Alzheimer's, recently passed away there in December 2024 at the age of 86 years. I cannot praise the staff there enough, they cared for him with compassion and understanding as he could be difficult
at times. We were welcome to visit him at any time and we would enjoy the musical activities with him, often a live singer. The staff would spend the time to talk to him about his previous hobbies.
He had a very pleasant room with lovely views over the countryside - the home itself is in a beautiful setting and we feel we could not have chosen a better place for him to spend his final years.

My father arrived at Barchester Lydfords Care Home in May 2024. On arrival, the staff were welcoming and encouraging but never pushy. As his health declined, the staff couldn't have been more caring. They were also very supportive to me and my family during our emotional journey. Their communication
was excellent every step of the way. His end-of-life care was exceptional. I was able to observe staff with other residents. They were all treated as individuals with respect and dignity, nothing is too much trouble. I could not recommend Lydfords more highly.

The staff at Barchester Wadhurst Manor Care Home looked after my father when he spent three weeks of respite care at the home. All the staff were both efficient and kind and my father was very well looked after. His health improved during his three-week stay so that he was able to return to his own

I can't put into words how grateful we are to everyone at Barchester Wadhurst Manor. From the first moment we stepped through your door, we knew mum would be totally cared for and we were not wrong.
The warm, loving and welcoming environment you all create, feels like a true home and it's clear that
you genuinely care about the well-being and happiness of everyone in your supervision. The exceptional patience, love and kindness every single one of you gave mum and dad was amazing. You make every day special.
It has brought us great comfort to know that mum has been in such capable and loving hands. You really do spread the love.
You put mum 'back together again' and put a sparkle back in her eyes and I am so grateful for that.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You truly make a difference in so many lives.
