Barchester Sherwood Court Care Home

from H M (Relative of Resident) published on 31 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My relative has been a Dementia resident at Sherwood Court for over two years, so I am in a good position to tell you all about it - I spend a lot of time there.
In one word It is ''OUTSTANDING'' on every level - It is so humbling to see what challenges all the staff deal with on a daily basis and
how they support one another when times can be tough, it is clear it is not just a job for them, it is one big hardworking family that love what they do.
No two residents are the same, they all have differing needs.
Unless like us you have to use this service for a loved one you cannot and will never appreciate what a tremendously hard job ''ALL'' the staff do. ''Everyone'' has an important role to play - Chef, Admin, Caring/Nursing, Cleaners, DIY, Manager etc
To see the happy faces, the fun and enjoyment from all the residents that are clearly ''so well cared for'' this in itself is the best recommendation - Hold your heads up and be very proud! Thank you and Well Done to the Manager

My brother has been in Glenroyd nursing home, Blackpool since July 2019. He is disabled after a massive stroke in 2015 and he cannot speak. He has had the best of care and affection from all staff. He has been treated with love and consideration re. his disability. All patients are included, where possible
in all activities within the home. The activities and thought put in to all occasions is excellent. Recommended on all levels.

After loosing Dad it became obvious to my sister and I that Mum needed 24/7 dementia care. We were supported all the way by friendly staff during the harrowing experience of having to place Mum into care. All concerns and fears were quickly alleviated as mum settled in to her new surroundings very quickly.
Special mention must go to the activities coordinators for providing the stimulation Mum needs. Mum has visitors most days where we can take her for coffee and cake in the plush surroundings of the cafe.

Laurel Bank has been exceptional in caring for my mum following an emergency short-term stay due to a fall. It quickly became clear she needed permanent care, and the manager and deputy manager made the transition seamless, ensuring all her needs were met. The administrator handled the administration
efficiently, making the process stress-free. The entire team-nursing, care, and housekeeping-provides outstanding, attentive support. Special thanks to the Pink Ladies, whose fantastic activities have truly lifted my mum's spirits. We're so grateful for the kindness and dedication of everyone at Laurel Bank!

My husband has been in Sherwood Court for over a year now and I am very happy with his care. The staff treat him (and me) like family and I find this very comforting. All the staff know him (and me) by name and again this is very reassuring. The coffee shop and reception area are really welcoming and
have the best cake. The musical entertainment is his favourite activity and he actually sings along. It has taken a while but I think my husband has finally settled and I can leave each day confident that he has the best care and understanding .
Thank you for making my life a little easier.

My auntie hasn't been here very long, she came here for 1 day before going back to hospital, and came back here on the 29th of January on end of life care. The home is absolutely lovely and my auntie would've loved it if she was able to experience it. The staff have been nothing short of amazing, caring
for both my auntie and all of our family, who have been sat up there with her since she came in, offered sandwiches at lunchtimes, offered meals at both breakfast and dinner and even made a birthday cake for my auntie's daughter. It has honestly been amazing to feel so welcomed by all the staff. But as for the care for my auntie, we couldn't thank the staff enough for always making sure she is comfortable and content for when the time comes and thank you for allowing all of us to be with her every minute of every day. So from all of the family, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you've done for her.

At a very difficult time for our family, we received a warm, caring and compassionate welcome by all staff members. We had several days there whilst we visited our family member on end of life care and the courtesy, information and respect we received from nursing staff was greatly appreciated. We were
surprised to receive the generosity of the home in regular high quality refreshments that kept us going at a difficult time.

Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home

from Ellen H (Wife of Resident) published on 3 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

We spent a lot of time looking for a nursing home for my husband, who has Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and it just felt right in Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home. We visited another Barchester home which was also great but the wrong level for us. Sutton Grange is purpose-built so feels really spacious,
both in the communal areas and in the private areas. The rooms are en suite and a really good size.
The staff are brilliant, so friendly and caring, both with the family and with the residents, and are really responsive.
The food seems to be lovely, they serve it around dining tables with others and staff members at the tables. My husband is eating better than for years. The activities are numerous and varied and my husband seems to take part, I have photos of him singing, dancing, making mince pies.
My only reservation is the same as I hear about every home and that's clothing, he is often in someone else's clothes but as the care is so fabulous, I'm just getting used to the wrong clothes.

Reply from Francesca Lally, General Manager at Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home

Thank you for such a lovely review. I will make sure that this feedback is shared and put in our staff communication folder for staff to read. He is a real gentleman and a pleasure to look after. I received a Happy New Year off him with a smile today and that made my day! He does seem really content and I will speak to staff regarding the laundry issue as not ideal and can be improved. I will reiterate to the chef your praise too. I value both positive and negative feedback so that we can make it a more perfect experience here at Sutton Grange. Thanks again and please feel free to come and see me as my door is always open.

The home has such a wonderful, homely and caring feel as soon as you walk in the building. Our mum's care at Barchester Laurel Bank Care Home was outstanding, she was treated with respect, such amazing care, understanding and real friendship.
Every time I visited which was most days when I was in Lancaster, there was such a happy vibe, the staff are second to none and went out of their
way to make Mum's life happy, she always had a good laugh and funny stories to tell.
Mum's food was excellent and was given many options if she was not feeling like eating from the menu.
I cannot thank the amazing staff at Laural Bank enough. You are a credit to Barchester.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Barchester Glenroyd

from Mark B (Son of Resident) published on 13 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Our mother had a bad experience at another care home and we wish we had found Barchester Glenroyd sooner.
She suffers from severe dementia so needs a high level of care. The level of professionalism is first-class but also consistent which is tantamount to not just the training but the type of staff
employed. The management are always friendly, helpful and approachable but the real stars are the carers who don't just provide care but genuinely seem to care. Always willing to go the extra mile for a resident. It sounds clichè but it's like an extended family who have also made my dad's daily visits wonderful, warm and enjoyable. Myself and my family cannot recommend this home highly enough. In fact, I struggle to find anything negative to say, possibly that you have to wait a bit longer than expected to get in, during busy periods. The biggest compliment you can pay Glenroyd is that you can go in anytime unannounced and it's the same friendly welcome, high standards, with superb activities/events.

from Nigel L (Son of Resident) published on 15 October 2024

After an illness, Dad was left in a frail state and was happy to go into residential care. From the start, staff were caring and thoughtful, cheerful and punctilious in looking after Dad. Dad's room is very pleasant and sunny. Cleanliness is very good, as is the decor. The dining room, food, table layout
are of hotel standard. Dad is very complimentary about the food, staff... all of it. The unit is small (twenty residents) which allows individual care. This is, by far, the best home I visited and is excellent value.

Reply from Francesca Lally, General Manager at Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home

At Sutton Grange, we pride ourselves with giving high standards of care and can accommodate resident's individual needs. We understand and empathise that this can be a daunting decision to come into a care facility and we do do our best to make residents and their families feel part of our family at Sutton Grange. Thank you for your positive feedback and I will cascade to the team.
