From the 1st day my dad entered Hickathrift, the staff picked him up, got him walking, talking, and eating properly again. Their care, encouragement and love for him was exceptional.
The various events and activities provided were so varied that everybody would feel included, including the relatives.
Dad had a busier social life than I did!
We will always remember the birthday party they threw for him and the whole family, they are fond memories to us all.
We miss visiting and seeing the staff as, at first, they were strangers, but we left them as friends, and were touched when so many attended dads funeral.
We can't recommend Hickathrift House enough, and we will be forever grateful to them for giving us another year with our dad/grandad/great grandad/great great grandad, brother and uncle.
Hickathrift has a special place in our hearts, and always will

I always felt he was safe and well cared for. Staff were really good at informing me of anything and keeping

Review of

Barchester Woodside House Care Home

from A S (Sister of Resident) published on 6 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Woodside is a friendly, caring warm home led by an exceptional manager who encourages her team of carers, admin, activity staff, nursing staff to work together to provide the best possible care for residents.
When my brother first arrived he found it difficult to settle. But the whole team never gave
up on him, trying to find ways to engage him, working out the times of day when he needed more support.
Now he feels supported and enjoys being with his carer, often stopping them on the corridor to tell them he likes them.
He is involved in activities which are new to him. He is much calmer and settled. He loves to walk outside. When the warmer weather arrives he will be able to take more advantage of this.
I could not wish for a better place for my brother to live.

My mother has been in Barchester Hethersett Hall Care Home since October 2024 in the dementia, garden house residency. She loves it! She thinks the meals are like a five-star hotel. She loves the interaction of all the very caring and respectful staff, the energetic and entertaining entertainment staff.
Maintenance is always helpful and assists with any jobs. The gardens are vast and beautiful, well-kept. So far I have been very impressed with the care provided by the manager and her caring team!

I'm extremely happy at the care my mum receives in Barchester Ashfields Care Home. The staff are lovely and very caring and meet Mum's needs with a smile. They are always there to discuss and queries you may have and nothing is too much trouble for them. A big plus for me is that Mum no longer feels
lonely. When in her own home, she forgot who she'd seen or talked to so felt very lonely. The company of others and the staff mean this is no longer an issue. I leave her knowing she is in good hands.

After a poor experience in another care home (two weeks), we moved my husband to Barchester Ashfields Care Home. We were thrilled from day one by the facilities, staff and extremely high level of care. Now, three months since my husband became a resident, we have been delighted by the high standards
in every part of his care. Staff go above and beyond expectations - the food/meals in beautifully presented restaurant are superb.
For us, his family, there is a sense of extreme relief that the one we love so much is now cared for so well.

from Mary A (Wife of Resident) published on 28 January 2025

A super care home. I knew from my very first visit that I wanted my husband to be cared for here. Staff are fantastic, from management, admin, nursing staff, carers, in fact, just everyone. I was always greeted by any member of staff that I met on my frequent visits. It's just like one happy family.
The run up to Christmas was a very special time, with loads of activities for all to get involved in. The home looked so pretty too, with numerous Christmas trees and decorations, groups of school children entertaining the residents with their singing. It was wonderful.
The staff were so caring and compassionate when my husband was at end of life, they treated him with love, very attentive, always making sure he was comfortable. They looked after us brilliantly, as a family, during this sad time, nothing we asked for was too much trouble. I will always be grateful for their care and dedication.
My experience at Barchester Woodside House Care Home has been exceptional, they are a credit to the Barchester group.

This is my first experience of using a care home for my mum, it was used for a three-week respite.

The activities provided for those with dementia are excellent but there could be more of them. I believe the activities organisers could do with more support. Dementia care staff, again, are excellent but stretched too far. There are frequently no staff to be found in the sitting room and surrounding
areas which I feel is a weak spot for safety.

Reply from Elena Sandu, .Senior General Manager at Barchester Hethersett Hall

Dear Heather, thank you for taking the time to complete the review. I would like to provide you with reassurance that our staff are doing their best to support all of our residents and provide quality of care in order to maintain their well-being and safety at all times. Review of

Barchester Ritson Lodge

from Carole H (Daughter of Resident) published on 13 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Dad has been at Ritson Lodge for 10 months and in that time he has settled in very well and while in the past there have been one or two issues the home has continually provided wonderful care. In the run-up to Christmas, the home was beautifully decorated by them, along with some lovely seasonal entertainment
and activities the home really embraced Christmas. The staff all entered the Christmas spirit and we had Santas, elves and grinches. However, it was Christmas day when Ritson Lodge made a special effort. Relatives were invited to join their loved ones for lunch and the home made a really lovely effort. Relatives were seated with their residents for a festive lunch and all the staff made so much effort to make it a memorable day for all of us. From the food and drink (well done) to the festive atmosphere created by all the staff it could not have been better. Dad spent his first Christmas at Ritson Lodge and for his circumstances it was a fantastic place to be.

Reply from Siobhan fennell, General Manager at Barchester Ritson Lodge

That is so nice to hear. I have fed this back to the team today and they were so happy to have made such an impact. We do love Christmas, that is for sure.

My mother was sent to this care home as part of an NHS re-enablement program following a stay in hospital. She is 94 years old and always told me she never wanted to be put in a care home. When ready for discharge, I was greeted with the following comment from her - 'I don't want to go home, I love
it here, it's like staying in a 5-star hotel and all the staff are fantastic!'
Mum has now been in the care of this fantastic establishment for nearly two months and my wife and I can only endorse her feelings. From the management team down to every single member of staff, they are all an absolute credit to the home. It's clear they really care and have already made a massive difference to my mother's quality of life. As a self-funding resident, it is a massive financial commitment although comparable with most other good care homes. It is however worth every penny in that my wife and I can now rest easy knowing Mum is in the hands of a truly professional team of people who really care.

Reply from Siobhan fennell, General Manager at Barchester Ritson Lodge

We are so glad she felt that she wanted to stay with us and that she has done so well here. Thank you for such a wonderful review, the team felt very proud that Mum feels so at home here.

Mum has just entered her second spell of respite at Hickathrift. Every single staff member - manager, admin, care staff, cooks, maintenance has been welcoming and friendly and as a result, we have been very happy to leave Mum in their care. The indoor space is bright and feels very clean, in a homely
way; a testament to the great personal care residents receive and I should imagine, the effective laundry systems employed by the team. Well done to you all and thank you.

Mum's health has deteriorated significantly this year but all the staff continue to look after her really well. They are attentive to her changing needs and diet and although bed-bound, they still try to include her in activities as much as is possible, e.g. at Halloween, they gave her pens to colour
in pictures which she enjoyed. The staff are friendly and approachable, nothing is too much trouble. Mum is content and settled in Barchester Ritson Lodge and now considers it her home which, in turn, makes me happy.

The admin assistant always offers a warm welcome with a big smile. She is the first port of call as you arrive. She is always there for us and at times I need a big hug. In fact, all of the staff are exceptional, all mixing different roles so that they can cover each other. Always with a 'hello' when
I see them. Unfortunately, my Dad is bedridden and he cannot join in on any activities, due to lack of mobility and Alzheimer's. We visit him every day, just so we're around him and when I know I can't be there, I know he is well looked after. My Mum also had a stay following a half knee op and the staff were exceptional during this time too.
