Review of

Barchester Highfield Care Home

from S D (Respite Resident) published on 17 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

This is my third 'respite' visit to Highfield. Each time I come I appreciate the care and the comfort of the home. It is always an enjoyable experience to escape the responsibilities of living alone and the pleasure of having company are the main benefits I gain from coming here. Highfield is beautifully
furnished and tastefully decorated, surrounded by well tended gardens in beautiful countryside. Then to the staff unfailingly helpful and kind, nothing is too much trouble. At the weekend, shortage of staff with a lack of leadership, poor choice of activities will be sorted out. It very new. I enjoy the homely atmosphere and service. I will be back.

Reply from Luke Owens, General Manager at Barchester Highfield Care Home

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent respite stay at Highfield. We're delighted to hear that this was your third visit and that you continue to find comfort, care, and companionship during your time with us. It's wonderful to know that you enjoy the homely atmosphere, our beautiful surroundings, and the warm service from our team.We also really appreciate your honest feedback regarding weekends, and I am happy to discuss your concerns with you. It means a lot to us that you plan to return, and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Mum went for 2 weeks initial respite care and loved it so much she did not want to leave . The staff without exception are all brilliant - very caring and engaged with residents. Mum is like a different person since being resident at Ouse View - she absolutely loves it - having company 24/7 has been
key and she is taking part in activities we never thought she would - brilliant result for mum and brilliant result for us as a family seeing her so happy and content

I visited my father just before lunchtime. I apologised for the bad timing. The staff made me feel welcome and suggested perhaps I could eat with my father even at such short notice. The wonderful staff sat myself and Dad down together and set a table in the conservatory lounge area. It was incredibly
generous to allow us to experience this precious quality time together. Moments like this mean a lot. The food was delicious too. Many thanks.

Mum was moved to Rivermead Norton on the 14th February 2025 where she had a lovely room overlooking the garden and fields with horses, squirrels and a hen. The care was extremely good she was assisted with all her needs from bathing to feeding. After spending 7 weeks in hospital it was a huge relief
to the family so we could spend a lot more time with mum. We were made welcome anytime of the day so the whole process was made much easier for everyone. Thank you to all the staff.

My mother who had Alzeimers recently died. She had been a resident for over three years. I could not have wished for better care and support for her. not to mention the end of life support which was unbelievable. I could not praise the staff and management enough. It is very challenging supporting people
with alzeimers but they provided the care she needed. Despite her condition I believe she was happy at the home. This provided great comfort to her family.

Review of

Barchester Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

from E L (Friend of Resident) published on 3 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My friend was admitted after 2 months of hospital admissions and 2 care homes, which he's had to leave because of his dementia, though they had been informed of this beforehand. The welcome you gave to him and us was most warm and continued to be so throughout his stay: from the excellent, always so
calm receptionists, through all the carers, housekeeping and maintenance staff and cleaners, he was met with dignity, respect, warmth and professionalism. Early on a maintenance man encouraged him so cleverly to walk (he's just stayed in bed or on a chair in other places); near the end one of the housekeeping staff sat with him voluntarily and all the staff showed compassion and professionalism. And behind them all was an excellent, very caring manager and her team delivering everything. But we must talk of my friend's end of life care, which couldn't have been better. We were constantly informed about what was happening and were able to spend many hours with him before he died, and when we were not there we knew his treatment could not be better. Because of you all he had a good, peaceful death, culminating in the beautiful way in which you arranged for his body to leave. Thank you to all of you for everything you've done for our friend during his last days.

from R B (Son of Resident) published on 31 March 2025

A truly first class facility with the caring and professional staff team to ensure a throughly safe, secure and successful stay!
Mum was resident for more than a year before passing away peacefully. I can not priase the staff highly eough. Care was brilliant, medial support first class and the food,
support and personal care was exemplary! Even at times when the home was very busy staff made time for individual support and care and always made time for a cuppa and a chat.
The individual attention was also much appreciated - the 'would you like a cuppa', popping in for a quick chat, 'how are you today' made all the difference and gave family the confidence and trust to know mum was in good hands.
Staff are a genuine team! with clear support and care / concern for one another. This then feeds-thru to residents in that there is uniformity of care, standards are upheld and quality is foremost. Honest!

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback - Your kind words mean the world to the Team. I'm so glad we could care for mum in her last year and support her family too. We sadly lost our mother in January and are really missing our regular visits. Mum was a resident at Threshfield for 3 years but, prior to this, had respite care on a number of occasions for up to 3 weeks duration. We have been impressed with all the staff, who always made us feel welcome, but in
particular for the standard of care they gave mum. She was able to live her final years in lovely surroundings and with excellent nursing care.
We loved seeing all the photos on the social media page, particularly when the animals visited. It kept us in the loop and gave us peace of mind that mum was involved in the many activities.
We are also extremely grateful for the support the staff gave us in the last few days of mum's life. They carried out regular checks on mum but did so unobtrusively, giving us space to spend time alone with her. The staff also offered us food and drink and couldn't have been kinder when the end approached.
We are so lucky to have found this wonderful care home.

Reply from Stacey Nicholson, Manager at Barchester Threshfield Court Care Home

Thank you very much for your kind feedback which i will share with the team, it was a true pleasure to care for mum in her last 3 years of life, staff grew very fond of her indeed and she is missed in the home. We will look back on the social media pictures with fond memories - Take care and love to the family, Stacey and Team.

My mother arrived last May after a fall at home followed by a week in hospital. She was undernourished and very frail. After only a few weeks at the Dales, she had put on weight and was in a better state generally. Despite wishing she was still at home, she has become used to living in a care home and
seems content. The care she receives is excellent.

My friend was increasingly needy - requiring all physical care including feeding. She always looked clean and tidy, well dressed and cared for. She was usually up and positioned so she could interact if she wished. With more qualified nurses or physiotherapists care could be improved - my friend developed
foot drop and contractures. Overall the staff were kind and gentle in their interactions.

Fantastic place for people to call home. We didn't have chance to look round Boroughbridge Manor before my mum was taken there. We cannot believe our luck, Mum loves it there. The staff are so very kind, always a lovely warm welcome for families visiting.
