Fantastic caring staff my Dad is very settled and happy. They accommodate his specific requests and facilitate regular communication for all of family
The building and gardens provide a beautiful serene environment to sit and watch the birds and changing of the seasons and is equally as beautiful
indoors the lounges and dining rooms are spacious and comfortable.

Thank you for your kind words regarding the care that your Dad receives at Hilderstone Hall. Your Dad is a pleasure, he changes his hat to match the seasons, Straw hat for when the sun is shining and his Trilby hat for when it is a dull day. We will feedback your positive review to the whole team

Overall I'm impressed with Barchester HQ and Hilderstone Hall. Polite and professional staff, nice home in pleasant grounds. Proactive engagement from initial enquiry through to moving in and now with ongoing care. Lots of interactive activities and the staff get to know those in their care is very
apparent. There'll always be some issues, it goes with the territory, but I've found the staff to be forward leaning and helpful and my Aunt appears settled and happy and cared for, which is something we are obviously pleased with. Thank-you

My family and I were extremely impressed with the level of care given to my wife while in Barchester Lawton Rise Care Home. The staff, from front of house to carers and nurses, were excellent. We knew my wife was well looked after. There were regular updates on food and fluid intake and of any health
issues that occurred. My family and I were looked after as well when there. I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to see their relative treated with care, respect and dignity. Unable to comment on activities for patients as my wife was bedbound and unable to take part. Otherwise, excellent.

My mum was in Bachester Lawton Rise for 20 months. She was always clean, tidy and well dressed. She passed away in October 2024. The nursing staff and carers provided professional excellent care for the whole of her stay. The staff always kept me well informed on her progress. All the staff are caring,
compassionate and kind. When I visited, the administration staff were always warm and welcoming. The housekeeping staff do a marvellous job with laundry and keeping the home well maintained and clean. The catering staff provide good quality food and make residents a cake for birthday celebrations. A big thank you to all the staff.

Mum spent the last few weeks of her life at Barchester Lawton Rise Care Home in Goldenhill, following a few months in hospital.
The care she received at Lawton Rise was outstanding in every way.
Despite having dementia and complex physical needs, the staff got to know Mum very well and they were exemplary
in their care of both her physical and emotional needs.
Sadly, her health issues resulted in her death but as a family, we are all confident that Mum could not have been anywhere better at the end of her life.
Every single member of staff at the home went above and beyond our expectations and not only did they care for Mum at the end of her life with compassion, they also showed immense empathy towards us, her family, as we came to terms with Mum's deteriorating health.
We cannot praise them highly enough and thank them for making the last few weeks of Mum's life as comfortable as possible.
Thank you, all of you.

The staff on the reception desk are always so friendly, helpful and caring. We have been so pleased with the responsiveness of the nursing staff who have guided us through everything so kindly. The home is spotless, we always comment on how clean Mum's room is and how lovely and tidy the whole home

Absolutely outstanding care received by my mother from a wonderful, caring, compassionate, professional team. The transfer from home to permanent care was smooth and efficient, we were kept updated every step of the way and supported throughout this procedure. The staff, as a whole, are truly amazing.
I knew, without a doubt, my mother was very much cared for as if she was their own parent. The environment is relaxed and wholesome with many activities for the residents to enjoy. Even though my mother was in late-stage dementia, I know she was contented in their care. They definitely deserve some sort of reward for their kindness and professionalism. I can't thank them enough.

This is the fourth time my mother has stayed here for respite care. She has dementia (nine years) but it always happy to spend her time here. The food always looks so appetising, the surroundings so comfortable and accessing the outdoor balcony area is a treat for her. It looks and feels like a five-star
hotel with every detail taken care of. The last couple of times when it has been time to go home, she has cried as she has enjoyed it so much. We're always confident that she's comfortable and well cared for during her stays at Barchester The Spires Care Home.

Barchester Hilderstone Hall

from Lorraine G (Sister of Resident) published on 19 September 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Called to see my sister today who has dementia, straight away I was greeted with a smile and when I said who I was here to see she said 'ohh birthday girl today', what a lovely touch! Then another lady said 'oh yes she's up, dressed and ready for her birthday do you know where to go?' There was a balloon
and a banner on her bedroom door and they said the chef was baking her a birthday cake. I then met a carer, what a lovely caring person, and another, both so pleasant and really interacted with my sister. She also speaks highly of another one of the other carers.
I really can't praise Barchester Hilderstone Hall and the wonderful staff enough. It's not nice having to put a family member in a home but I feel so happy knowing that she's cared for and so well looked after.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the amazing work you do!

Barchester The Spires Care Home

from Helen-Lesley A (Respite Resident) published on 9 September 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I enjoyed y respite week very much. The room ad its bathroom were lovely. All the staff were very kind and considerate. Drinks were always available and there were choices for meals. The food and drinks were excellent. I took part in two sessions of exercise which were good, also watched the streamed
Sunday service from the cathedral. I watched the Olympics on TV and listened to the radio, also did my own hobby of painting. My husband felt welcome when he came to visit me. The garden is kept very well, I wish it was more used by residents. My husband was very pleased with the care I received, at the end of the week, he knew I had benefitted from my stay.
Although I had said that I did not have sugar, no response! No puddings at first.

Review of

Barchester The Spires Care Home

from S F (Daughter of Resident) published on 9 August 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

Great environment for those needing very minimal care. Most carers are lovely. Management very poor and lacking in compassion and overall ethos seems to be more about what they can't do than what they can do. Repeatedly told 'we're not a nursing home, we can't do that' and felt like there was a disclaimer
on everything. Dad was only there for 6 weeks and had multiple falls. Injuries were not well cared for and some were ignored and not recorded. Several minor medical matters (which they could not treat) not escalated. When we chased we were promptly told they couldn't meet his needs so he had to move. This was only 5 weeks since their assessment. No discussion or warning. He had been accepted as a permanent resident and we were due to sign the contract in a few days time. Their 'requires improvement' CQC status is in part due to leadership and I agree. With hindsight, Dad should not have been accepted, they could not offer the required level of care, maybe a case of £££££ over care!

Undoubtedly, a well above average experience, especially in view that is based on a comparison with a previous care home (residential) for which I paid the same amount. All staff, management, nurses, carers etc. pass the test with flying colours with the exception of one individual which I am not allowed
to mention but should not be employed in this superb establishment but should be sacked.

Reply from Melanie Fenton, General Manager at Barchester Hilderstone Hall

Hi Anna. Thank you for your kind review and that you feel, overall, that the home was well above your expectations. I am pleased that we were able to meet your Italian dietary requirements for yourself and your friend. The residents really enjoyed the entertainment that he provided. Wishing you good health for the future and hopefully, we will see you again.

We'd like to express our sincere thanks to all the team at The Spires for their care of Mum over her time there. It began during Covid so there were all kinds of restrictions in place, but you enabled us to have good regular contact with her, and in the time since then you could not have been more helpful
in the way you looked after her and always made the family feel welcome too. Mum was really contented at The Spires and often told me how pleased she was to be there. The friendliness and cheerfulness of the staff were always obvious and everyone seemed willing to go out of their way to help as much as possible. As the end of Mum's life approached, we were impressed with the care and sensitivity of everyone, and we're so grateful for all the ways in which you made Mum's passing so peaceful and stress-free, both for her and for the family.

Reply from Amy Doyle, General Manager at Barchester The Spires Care Home
