Barchester Westergate House Care Home

from Liane W (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 20 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My Gran moved into Westergate House in January 2025. She is so happy, and her health has improved immensely. The staff are exceptional, and it is thanks to their hard work and dedication, that this is such a wonderful home for my Gran to live. The staff are friendly, kind, caring and nothing is too
much trouble. It feels like one big family. The food is homemade and tastes incredible. There are lots of activities for residents to participate in if they wish to do so. There is a minibus, so residents can go on outings. My Grans dog is allowed to visit, which she and other residents enjoy. Most importantly, I can leave my Gran knowing that she is receiving the best care from the best people and in the best place. If you are looking for a care home for a loved one, I highly recommend Westergate House

Reply from Paul Middleton-Russell, Senior General Manager at Barchester Westergate House Care Home

Dear Liane, thank you so much for your stunning review of the whole team here at Westergate House, I have shared your glowing feedback with the team; which is lovely for them to hear. I am so glad that you feel your Gran is in a wonderful home, that you leave the home knowing she is receiving the best care, and of course, that her dog can visit too, which benefits not only her; but her fellow residents. It is always a pleasure to see you all when you visit and it is heart warming to hear that you feel like we are one big family. It is a privilege to care for your gran and we can't thank you enough for your kind praise.

My family and I celebrated my husband's 82nd birthday today today by having Sunday lunch in the conservatory at Westergate House. There were eight of us, and we enjoyed the most delicious three course lunch. The table was laid beautifully, the service was impeccable and the food was superb.
I would
like to thank all the staff for all their hard work which made it so special. It was perfect for my husband, who didn't feel at all overwhelmed and seemed to really enjoy it. This is a testament to the care given by all the staff. Thank you all so very much from all my family.

Barchester Westergate House Care Home

from S B (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I can't speak highly enough about the way in which all staff at Barchester Westergate House Care Home take such good care of my parents, who came with differing needs. They are in different areas of the building but are able to meet up whenever they wish, kindly facilitated by the staff.
My parents
have very specific requirements about what they want and how they like things and the team manages to successfully navigate their needs and requirements to a very high standard.
The home has the feel of a small country hotel and it is always a delight to visit and enjoy a coffee and slice of delicious, homemade cake with my parents in the bistro area. The food and dining environment are excellent and there is a fantastic range of entertainment provided to suit both their needs.
From the second one arrives at reception to the time one leaves, all staff are friendly, helpful, welcoming, efficient with a can-do attitude and I think it would be fair to say, above and beyond attitude.
Thank you so much.

Reply from Paul Middleton-Russell, Senior General Manager at Barchester Westergate House Care Home

We were thrilled to read your wonderful review. Thank you for taking the time to provide the feedback; it is fabulous to hear that your parents' needs are being met to a high standard, and it is a pleasure to have them both residing at Westergate House. The staff team are extremely pleased to hear your experience and love having you visit. We can only concur that chef's homemade cake is a great reason to visit the bistro! It's super to hear that your parents are enjoying the dining experience, and that you are always welcomed by the entire staff team. Thank you once again for reviewing the care and facilities at Westergate House. We look forward to seeing you soon. Kind regards, Paul.

Barchester Westlake House Care Home

from Debbie R (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Our mum is currently a resident at Barchester Westlake House Care Home and had been for nine months following two weeks respite care.
The home is always welcoming, extremely clean, warm bright and sunny.
The staff are also very welcoming, caring, available to answer any queries etc.
The residents
are encouraged to dine together, if able, in the dining room. The food is always plentiful and flavoursome.
There are activities daily which residents are taken to if unable to manage themselves.
Westlake is not the nearest home to us however it was and is an excellent choice which I would not hesitate in recommending to anyone.
There has also been a new manager appointed in our time, her door is 'always open' and the manager is an asset to the team along with the admin assistant, home administrator and the whole nursing team and carers.
Mum is currently very poorly but I have peace of mind knowing she is cared for as well as I could if possible.
Thank you to you all.

Reply from Christine Sullivan, General Manager at Barchester Westlake House Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are so very proud of our team and will pass on your kind words, they will be delighted that their hard work and dedication has been recognised. Barchester Westergate House Care Home

from Peter M (Son of Resident) published on 22 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My lovely mum was a resident in Memory Lane for over three years. The nursing and care that Mum received was outstanding. The leadership in the home is exemplary. The staff have been there a long time and get to know each resident. Residents get to know all who care for them, be they managers and admin
staff, nurses, carers, housekeepers, hospitality team, maintenance staff, activities team and all who run the home so smoothly. As a visitor, I have always had a warm welcome no matter when I have visited or for how long. The staff are truly amazing. The carers are kind, patient and understanding. The meals are of a very high, gourmet standard, beautifully presented and delicious. As a family, we have shared delightful meals with Mum, in delightful surroundings, including special birthdays and an amazing wedding breakfast. The care that Mum received at Barchester Westergate House Care Home for the last years of her life was exceptional. Their dignity, respect and kindness at the end will stay with me always.

My grandmother was given such wonderful treatment by Barchester Westergate House Care Home and their excellent staff. Grandma went in after a very traumatic time in hospital and another care home 3 and a half 5 years ago, and made such tremendous improvements. Her final years were a wonderful final
chapter in her life, and it was wonderful to know that she was so well looked after.
Thank you all so much for giving us a few extra years to spend with her.

Reply from Paul Middleton-Russell, Senior General Manager at Barchester Westergate House Care Home

Our recently deceased Dad spent the last two and half years of his life at Red Oaks. We have nothing but praise for this care home and without exception, the staff who work there. He sometimes referred to it as his 'hotel' and it was that and so much more. He was treated at all times with great love
and affection and nothing was too much trouble for the carers and nursing staff. They made sure his final days were comfortable and dignified and for this and everything else, we are extremely grateful. We will miss you all.

Reply from Linda Ryan, General Manager at Barchester Red Oaks Care Home

The person I am visiting is very well cared for. The carers are very appropriately communicative with all persons.
They give choices at mealtimes.
Amazing place.
Could do with a few more chairs for rooms - for visitors.

I came here for a week's respite before going home, after a hip operation. I had been to visit a friend who had stayed for respite in Red Oaks and was impressed by the care she received. I live locally and knew of Red Oaks. I have been well looked after and benefitted from the week here. Carers are
attentive. Excellent menu choices each day. My room was in the older part of the building, hot water took its time to reach the bathroom!

I brought my aunt here two years ago and I cannot fault it in any way. She has been happy, well looked after and has enjoyed the last years of her life. The staff have always been delightful both to me and to my aunt. They keep me well informed and are always so kind. They actually truly care about
their residents, a rarity these days. The food is amazing, fantastic activities and I was able to video call my aunt weekly as I was living in Portugal! All I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart.
