Galanos House

Galanos House is a bit special in my opinion. The culture in any organisation is key and Galanos appears to have one that is very caring both to residents and to staff. It appears to lead to low turnover of staff which is key in any organisation but particularly so in a care home. And I believe a lot
of how an organisation performs reflects what comes from the top. Going into a care home can never be easy but I have no worries about my mother in law at Galanos - she is really well cared for and it shows. It was the same for my late father in law too. I have experience of a relative in another care home and it's like chalk and cheese!

The best home setting anyone could ask for it's not a care home it's a community.
It's just like living in a hotel with your friends.
So much love and care given to each resident.
My Mum has a new lease of life since going into the home she is living again.

Wonderful care home in every way. I cannot wish for any better home for my mum to stay, from the first day she arrived, the staff are amazing and care very much about the residents.
Halsey house is a wonderful home, with a lovely atmosphere. The building is spacious, with a lot of character, and kept
extremely clean. As soon as you enter Halsey, you know the home is very well managed and offers a calm and caring environment.
The rooms are an excellent size, with a specious bathroom, have a nice garden view and cleaned every day.
The care team are excellent, and I am so impressed with the job they do. Really nice genuine and caring people who all give that something extra to make the residents comfortable
When its my time for a care home, I hope I can come to Halsey !!

Making the decision to move a family member to a care home is always difficult but I cannot speak more positively about our Galanos House experience so far. My dad came to Galanos House for a short stay but has recently made the decision to become permanent. Every member of staff is kind, welcoming
and cares for Dad to an exceptionally high standard. Thank you to all involved.

Dunkirk Memorial House

from Adrian B (Son of Resident) published on 20 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother stayed at Dunkirk House, in the dementia wing (Dunkirk Mews), for over a year, until she sadly passed away recently. From the moment my sister and myself walked in the main building, to inspect the home on behalf of my mother before her stay, we were so impressed with everything. It is a beautiful
building, in a beautiful location, with beautiful grounds. The staff in the dementia wing do a difficult job incredibly well. The residents are really well attended to, the food/catering is amazing, and they have many activities throughout the week to keep them entertained. My mother was really well cared for and attended to around the time of her passing. Only one word of caution, the residents are looked after so well that many of them live to be in their nineties, and at the time of writing I believe some are around the age of 100! If you are lucky enough to have the option of having a relative stay here then look no further. I cannot speak too highly of Dunkirk House.

Reply from Theresa Andrews, Deputy Manager at Dunkirk Memorial House

The fact that the carers and nurses and all staff at Galanos House really do care shows massively. They have made my father's life liveable again. The team are really supportive and does their very best to help. The activities that the team run for residents are great and help to keep my father entertained
and involved, much more than other care homes have done in the past.

Fantastic and attentive care of my father, fully supportive and also kind and engaging. From name places at the dinner table, seemingly endless tea coffee and biscuits, to services like taking him to the dentist or meeting all medical needs, the Galanos team are really amazing.

I can't fault the care my brother-in-law is receiving at Poppy Lodge, all of the staff are lovely, friendly and caring. Nothing is ever too much trouble, they always have time to chat and are so patient.
His mobility has improved enormously because he's encouraged to get up and get involved, rather
than being left to just sit in his chair.
He's also put on a bit of weight and always looks clean and tidy now, not something that happened when he was living on his own.
Although he didn't want to go into a home he now says he wishes he'd come to Galanos House ages ago, you can't say better than that.

My wife continues to receive the best of care and attention. The positive and welcoming nature of all the staff makes life for her the best it can be in the circumstances she is now in. She is beautifully turned out each day and despite severe disability is encouraged to partake in activities. She thoroughly
enjoys her very well-prepared food and is well-supplied with drinks throughout the day. One has an overall impression of a staff who enjoy their work which is
infectious overall.

Reply from Lucy Westland, Business Manager at Galanos House

It is so important that our residents do not lose their sense of self-identity, this can manifest itself in their appearance, how they have their hair, styles they like to wear and make-up they could not be without, similarly being able to carry on and participate in activities that may have been a mainstay in life or maybe something new is so important to make sure every day is the best it can be. Our staff really are passionate about providing great care, hospitality and service here at Galanos House where our residents choose to live, we have the privilege of coming to work in their home. We are very thankful for your lovely review which gives us all such pleasure to read.

Our mum went to Galanos House a little over two years ago after a bad experience. She has been impeccably cared for in a lovely room and the staff all treat her (and us) with respect, friendliness and compassion. She has just turned 100 years old and looks amazing, which is all down to the care given
