The Hawthorns

My mother-in- law was with the Hawthorns for 19 months. We both can recommend this home wholeheartedly. It is a lovely building with a majestic staircase that hits you when you arrive at the door. The rooms are clean and very well maintained. Lovely furnishings and gardens. Meals are very nice and are
served in a beautiful classy dining room. It is quite intimate with each meal being a social opportunity for its residents. Throughout her time at the Hawthorns our mum was treated with love, respect, dignity and compassion. She was always cleanly dressed. The staff are really wonderful. Very kind respectful, patient and helpful. Management are very approachable, considerate and experienced and ensure the smooth running of this wonderful home. There is some form of entertainment most days. The visits from the nursery school children , the pet visits and the knitting group were all regular favourites She also enjoyed the weekly hairdresser visits.

Mum was deteriorating both mentally and physically throughout 2024. We had done all we could with home aids and carers, but whatever we did was not enough. I talked with the management at Youell Court and they couldn't have been more helpful in getting mum out of hospital and into the home. All the
staff are great. The home is clean, well managed and there is an air of calm. Mum has been at the care home for 6 weeks now and it's the best decision we have made recently.

Holt House

My mum has been a resident since November 2024. I was anxious at first about how Mum would settle after living in a family home and attending daycare. I found the staff at Holt House very friendly. As I live overseas, I thought I would feel isolated in her care, but Holt House staff are never too busy
to answer queries and hook me up by videocall to chat with Mum. I highly recommend this residential care home. Nothing is too much trouble, and the staff go out of their way to make the residents feel at home. Meals are cooked to individual preferences and at all times they relate to your questions or concerns. Holt House offers events and activities for the residents. I see Mum daily on the Holt House social media group attending the group activities and can see how lovely she looks when she has just had her hair and nails done. I am very pleased with the care and attention my mother receives and can see how well looked after she is. Thank you to all the staff at Holt House for making my mum welcome and settled.

My father has been a resident at The Hawthorns for the past three years until he passed away in January of this year. The care has been consistently excellent over this period.
The staff always knew where Dad was when I visited (without prior notification of the visit). He often spoke of the kindness
and consideration shown to him and we all appreciated the wonderful team who looked after him.
The physical care with his personal hygiene, his clothes always clean and smart, and his room neat and tidy; and also the emotional care, that he was never lonely, was actively encouraged to join team activities and able to have a chat and a laugh with his friends around him.

My dad is well looked after and is very happy at the care home. The staff are very patient and help my dad when he is struggling, but let him be independent when he is able to, which he still likes to be. His clothes are always clean and he looks smart when I visit.

This is to say that since my father was placed at Holt House he has thrived 100% due in no small way to the professionalism and profound care and understanding of the staff.
My father suffers from vascular dementia and is totally reliant on the care staff and although I can't spend as much time with
him due to the distance I live from Manchester, I have no qualms as I have complete faith in the home and their trusted team and just know he is in the right environment for the rest of his days!

My mum was lucky enough to get a place in Holt House in April and I can't praise it enough. It really is a proper home where she is known and cared for as an individual. Her preferences are understood and catered for and all her needs are met with kindness and good humour. The home is a lovely place
with a beautiful garden and the atmosphere is very positive with lots of fun. I am very grateful for each individual who contributes to such excellent care.

My friend has been in Holt House for nearly a year. I can't fault the care and attention. There are lots of activities both for residents and for friends and family. If I need care in the future Holt House would be my choice. I worked as a Social Worker for many years and have experienced many care
homes. I find Holt House to be outstanding.

Dewdown House

from J L (Son of Resident) published on 20 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I have nothing but the greatest respect for all the carers, nurses, staff and all the people involved in the running of Dewdown House. All the staff go that extra mile, are always happy with a smile when you visit, the cleanliness at Dewdown is above and beyond and the amount of activities the staff
provide for the residents is absolutely excellent, this also includes many days out visiting various locations. The reason I'm giving Dewdown 10 out of 10 for their excellent service is because I was a carer for my mother for over many years and understand the hard work involved in caring for the elderly. If my mother has a problem I always get a phone call from one of the staff explaining what this is. I visited several care homes looking for a vacancy for my mother. Dewdown has been a godsend. I and my brothers are so appreciative of the excellent service they provide. Thank you so much.

from Beverley W (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 13 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

When my father-in-law died, we realized that my mother-in-law would struggle to cope by herself. There were many options open, and we chose Youell Court because we trusted the Christian ethos. We have always been happy with that decision in the years since she first moved there. The home is lovely and
warm and the staff are always kind and supportive when we visit and actively keep us involved in Mum's care plan. Whilst Mum's memory has progressively deteriorated, we are grateful to the home for all their kindness, love and increasing support towards her. Mum enjoys the countless activities with the social media pages being testament to that as well as a blessing as you can see the participation and interaction of staff and residents. For those who are looking for a place to care, encourage and support your loved ones and also treat them with dignity in their later stages of life, I highly recommend Youell Court to you.

Review of

The Hawthorns

from Andrew R (Son of Resident) published on 24 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

The Hawthorns care home was recommended to us 3 and a half years ago by friends, and lucky they did as it was COVID and we were not allowed a visit to check out any care home. My mum was suffering from the onset of dementia at the time and at the point of entering the home she was a bit low and had
spent time isolated. The Care home years were not the end of Mum's life, it was a renewed chapter. They gave her dignity back, the staff involved her, looked after her, they did flower arranging, and displays at Easter, gave her a religious focus, dominoes, and all sorts of activities that stimulated the mind. The staff cared deeply and were extremely considerate of my wife and me whenever we interacted. When Mum was still able to form full sentences, she said how much she liked being there. The building does in part look a little tired but to older people, they may consider it to be "Homely". The thing that really makes it is the staff who are first class.

Reply from Wendy Critchlow, Home Manager at The Hawthorns

My mother has been in Glebe Court for 4 months so this review relates to her total time there.
She has been cared for in a very kind and understanding way.
Mum talks positively about the staff and residents although she would like to have her old life back, being more mobile and independent but realises
this cannot happen. This has been a huge relief for our family knowing she is safe 24/7.
You all do a very valuable job for the home and for society in general.
Thank you.
