Our experience of Viera Gray is overwhelmingly positive. When Mum moved in last autumn after a debilitating stay in hospital, she was warmly welcomed and received excellent care. It was a pleasure to see her recover so quickly and settle in so well.
The team never fails to demonstrate kindness, respect,
and professionalism in all their dealings with residents and with us.
Viera Gray is Mum's home now, and she is thriving there.

The staff at Speirs House have been looking after my mother-in-law very well and she is happy as a resident in the home. Everyone is very welcoming when we were to visit and the space is clean and well maintained. The recent Christmas party was a real joy to attend and the food and entertainment was
top notch. Thank you to everyone from the management to the staff.

I did a lot of research before deciding where I wanted my mother to live following a very debilitating stroke. I chose Speirs House because it was small (only 36 beds), the bedrooms are around a beautiful central garden, the menu to looked interesting and as I walked into the lovely light dining room
some of the carers were singing to the residents. The atmosphere was friendly, happy and nothing like any of the other local nursing homes that I visited. Mum has progressed amazingly since being at Speirs. The attention she has received from all the staff (the management, nurses, activity coordinators, maintenance, kitchen, laundry and cleaning staff) is undoubtedly one of the reasons she has been so motivated and has improved so much.

Speirs House is well led and has a first-class team of carers, nurses, caterers, housekeepers and volunteers.
My partner has now been a resident in Speirs House for two years and I am very pleased with the quality of her care.
There are two activities every weekday to keep the residents stimulated
and entertained.
We all enjoyed an excellent Christmas party before Christmas and an excellent lunch on Christmas Day. The staff always make a big effort on these occasions.
I would strongly recommend this Care Home.

I have a friend who has been a resident at Speirs House since May 2023. I have visited the Care Home many times, most recently for their Christmas Party on December 13th. This was a lovely occasion. The staff worked very hard: the residents were all looked after with care and compassion (as they always
are, in my experience). The catering was excellent and the decorations were beautifully done.

My mother has stayed twice so far for respite care. The staff have been lovely; welcoming, supportive and interested in her and us. She was well cared for, and whenever I visited or other friends visited we were also welcomed. There seems to be a core staff team who are permanent staff (not agency),
which is a real strength I think. The bedrooms are en-suite and peaceful, there is a lovely spacious dining room looking over the garden, and the garden is a real gem: my mother liked sitting out there with us.

Reply from Esperanza Guidaven, Deputy Manager at Torkington House

Thank you so much for taking time to leave us a review and for sharing your experience with us. We continuously aim to have permanent staff to ensure that a holistic high standard of care will be provided to the residents. Hopefully, you and your mum can join us in one of our future events like annual summer party and care home open day as she would appreciate more our garden. We wish her good health and kindly let us know if we can be of any help in the future.

My mum spent one month at Torkington House. From the moment she arrived to when she left, she was taken care of impeccably. The staff was extremely friendly and dealt with Mum's initial anxiety of being somewhere unfamiliar with empathy and professionalism. Whenever I called to get an update of how
Mum was doing, the team were always willing to update me. The day I came to pick Mum up to take her back home, she was smiling and happy to introduce me to all the other residents she met during her stay.

Reply from Esperanza Guidaven, Deputy Manager at Torkington House

Thank you for taking time in completing a review for Torkington House team. We appreciate your kind words which will be shared within the team. We are delighted that she enjoys her short stay at Torkington House. Your support through constant phone calls especially during the first few days of her stay really help the team to build the rapport they need to connect and to meet the care needs of your mum. She was very friendly to everyone and she treats all of us as her friends. Her vibrant spirit and being optimistic is contagious which makes everyone laugh and smile whenever she is around. It is our pleasure to look after such a lovely resident. Once again, thank you for trusting the Torkington House team.

My husband is being very well cared for at Speirs House and we are all happy and confident that the home does their very best for him. He doesn't join in any of the activities but he is content in his room. His room is very comfortable and his clothes are always clean. The carers and nurses are all
wonderful and as he doesn't have dementia he can interact with them which is good for his mood and personality.

As a family, we are extremely happy with the care and support of our mother. The care is outstanding. Mum loves the homemade food and loves attending the activities that are planned. The staff are very welcoming and happy to chat whenever we need to. The advice is great and seriously can't fault them
at all. The home is very accommodating with family and friends visiting. The Nursing staff keeps Mum's diabetes under control and loves a good chat and laugh with Mum and us. Since day one we have felt at home, and won't want to be anywhere else but Speirs House.

Our mother moved in this summer and can say we were very concerned about the move.
We can honestly we didn't need to be concerned.
Our mother was made so welcome and mum settled in quickly.
The staff are always so friendly, and chatty and nothing seems to phase them.
We are so pleased we chose
Spiers House.
It would be good to have more external activities but understand cost is the main factor.

Speirs House has the most outstanding team of carers, nurses, caterers, housekeepers, managers and volunteers. Each and every one of them puts heart and soul into their caring responsibilities and understands every resident's wants or needs. The support I have received, whilst supporting my mother through

Viera Gray House

from Victoria G (Daughter of Resident) published on 11 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

All staff at Viera Gray were excellent, friendly, polite and generally very efficient. The home has had a major refurbishment and my mother was the first occupant of the corridor she was on. Obviously, it was better as more residents arrived and the atmosphere will be enhanced as the home builds up
its resident numbers. Senior staff are very motivated and responsive to suggestions from residents and their families and friends.

Thank you for your lovely comments. As usual, we will take your comments on board, and as a team, we will do all we can to improve the service we provide for our residents. I am glad Mum has settled well in her own home after her stay at Viera Gray. We all miss her so much and often talk about her. We wish her all the very best. My mum has settled in very quickly at Viera Gray. She feels looked after and safe. The food is a high point! As a visitor, I can come and go as I please and am always offered tea or coffee. My wife has Alzheimer's. She entered Viera Gray at the very end of October; I could no longer keep her safe at our home. It is our first experience of a Care Home. She seemed very contented there; whereas with me she was often agitated. She likes the staff and they seem to like her. She is well fed;
if anything she eats rather too well! It is a calm and well-run environment. It attracts positive feedback from the larger community; I can see why.

On arrival was greeted by the admin team and manager who were both very professional and friendly. Once taken to my relative I was given a very brief description of what had been going on as I had worked away for a while.
After a while, I watched my relative play and take part in activities which all
took part.
The care home is nicely decorated and very clean.

My father has been a resident at Torkington House for nearly two years now and in that time he has been looked after impeccably.
He has been happy and cared for tirelessly by care staff that really care and look after his every need.
The entire team run a happy home professionally and lovingly that
I have total faith in, not once have I seen anyone act inappropriately or carelessly towards residents, guests and each other.
I cannot fault Torkington House and have recommended it to others.

Torkington House

from L A (Wife of Resident) published on 28 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

My husband spent one week at Torkington House for respite care. I am disappointed with the care he received.
The staff was informed that he is able to walk about 20 feet very slowly using the frame. But he was kept in the wheelchair all of the time, with no walking done at all except from bed to the
toilet and back. As a result, he was very unsteady on his feet when he returned.
When he did not have his meals regularly no nutritional drinks were given, he was feeling very tired and weak by the end of the week.
When he returned home it looked like he had not been shaved for at least two days.
The syringe used for his medication was missing from the pack. An old syringe was provided later which did not look clean at all.
The invoice sent was not for the agreed number of days. Amended one sent later with names misspelt.
The most serious was his DNR report was not with him when he returned home. It had to be collected later.
This is not the kind of care we were promised.

My Mum has been in Queen Elizabeth Care Home for around 7 months and she loves being there. She feels very settled and secure and frequently says she is the happiest she has been in years. I can visit virtually any time that suits me, I have always been made welcome and any concerns are discussed promptly
with me. I can't speak highly enough of this care home, the staff are amazing, the care is second to none and we are so pleased we found it. We looked at 7 other homes before we chose this one and this care home is far and away the best we looked at. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Queen Elizabeth Care Home, I just wish we had found it years ago!

Dear Richard, thank you for taking time in completing the review for the care your father has received from Torkington House team during his respite stay. Although it was a very short stay and might not be enough time to know him very well, the whole team did their best to meet his care needs ensuring that he is safe and well looked after. I can remember when he was about to go home and he said that he does not want to go home and he would like to stay in Torkington House. This review will be shared within the team as this always motivates them to continue to deliver high quality of care to all our residents. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
