Sadly, my mum passed away two weeks ago (at Hawthorns) having lived there for the last 4 years. Mum had dementia and I found choosing a care home for her, incredibly stressful, as I had no experience of the care system and you hear so much, in the media, that is negative.
I need not have worried. Hawthorns
soon became our second home and the staff, our extended family. Mum was happy there and she was cared for with kindness and compassion. As a family, we have so many wonderful, precious, memories of Mum's time at Hawthorns.
The manager's door was always open and if we ever had any concerns (rarely!) we could always speak to him, or his team.
During the last few days of Mum's life, the manager, his deputy and the staff could not have been kinder. Mum was treated with dignity and such incredible care and, as a family, we felt loved and supported, as the team gently guided us through those last few days.
We will be forever thankful to them all.

My nan sadly passed away yesterday. Since COVID she had been suffering from dementia, had been in homes ever since and particularly spent her final years at The Hawthorns. I've questioned over the years what sort of life or living it is to be stuck in a home and never leave but The Hawthorns and all
its staff have thankfully made this seem OK. They have taken such phenomenal care of not just Nan but of all of our family the entire time. Nan was treated with such dignity and care, we felt like everyone at The Hawthorns had taken the time to get to know her and were clearly very fond of her. Every one of my family, from my parents down to our youngest children, was always made to feel extremely welcome and every member of staff has grown to feel like an extended family. This last week has been incredibly tough but the compassion and hospitality that we were shown made it all so much easier to deal with. I couldn't thank the staff highly enough and will miss them all dearly. Thank you.

The Hawthorns Care Home

from Charles W (Husband of Resident) published on 24 January 2025

My wife has been a resident in Hawthorne Care Home for approximately 6 months with dementia, her condition started approximately seven years ago but with the pandemic it worsened so unfortunately she had to be admitted to a care /nursing home. The staff have to put up with many challenges and they cope
very well with my wife's. The care she receives from the staff is excellent, her communication is very difficult to understand but with the professionalism of the caring staff they manage very well. I find the management very professional, understanding, friendly and very obliging in any information you ask them. I as her husband don't like to see my wife in care but with the wonderful care, attention, and dignity that is provided by the whole of the staff I know that I have made the right choice.

The Hawthorns Care Home

from I L (Sister of Resident) published on 13 January 2025

My sister was very disturbed when she moved to The Hawthorns, by a hospital stay, and then coming to a new place. Her mental state made it difficult for her to be trusting, and she, at first, refused food, drink, and medications, and was unkind to staff. The staff have taken her fears and preferences
on board and gradually gained her trust. Their patience is unending, and they know when to cajole and when to let her simmer down. Nursing my sister can't have been easy for them, and sometimes it must have been very concerning. Their liaison with the local GP is particularly good, as is their attention to her day-to-day health. In the last three weeks, she has calmed down amazingly. She is eating and drinking and accepting her meds. She is interacting well with staff, and taking much more interest in life, people, and events. Her paranoia has reduced massively. She was appreciative when lent a CD player (likes classical music), and a screen on which she can watch wildlife programmes.

My mum came to Hawthorns with significantly advanced dementia a bit over 4 years ago.
Her condition has presented many challenges, she has been through the pandemic and seen staff and managers come and go, but the compassion and thoughtfulness of the care she has received from all over her time has
been as consistent as I could have hoped for.
Quality of her care was my first priority and as her son and attorney, I've found the friendliness, understanding of her condition and communication of all staff, particularly the nurses and attending GP and other medical professionals, resident-centred and excellent. I have never felt concern for my mum's safety, comfort or dignity and have always been able to talk with someone when I've needed to.
Let's be clear nobody wants to find their loved ones with illness or other considerations that require the service they provide at Hawthorns despite their professionalism, but in the event, I can say I'm glad my mum was in their care until the end.

Dad arrived at Hawthorns after spending 5 weeks in hospital. The transition went well and I was kept updated with timings and days etc. Dad has a ground-floor room which is large and airy, we took his chair and a few extras to make him feel home from home. The staff from management, activity nurses
and care team are all welcoming and approachable. I've been kept informed of everything that goes on behind the scenes too, which is a comfort to my family. The stress we all felt has definitely been lifted, especially for my mum who was caring for Dad. Dad always looks clean and well-dressed, and I feel his needs are being met. Staff go above and beyond keeping him safe, well and happy!

My mother came to the home in 2018 and was looked after beautifully the whole time she was living there.
I found the home to be well run from the top down and the carers were kind and empathetic and treated Mum with dignity always. Nothing was ever too much trouble, if I had a concern it was acted
upon swiftly and all the staff were very approachable. I never worried about Mum being in their care.
They supported me too as it became difficult to see Mum deteriorate. They are wonderful, well trained carers and perform the most vital work at the end of a person's life. I thank them from my heart and would recommend this home for anyone thinking of placing their loved one into care.

My father moved into the care home on 8th July with some trepidation, however his worries were soon put aside. All the staff come to introduce themselves and welcome him the staff are friendly and cannot do enough for the people there.
The choice of food on offer is very good and offer drinks throughout
the day.
Prior to moving into the home, we had several discussions with the Manager who was so kind and understanding, he let us get the room ready for my father prior to his arrival so my father had his own things around him which helped him settle.
The manager and his staff could not be more caring, helpful and compassionate. This is a lovely care home with good-sized rooms and lovely residential and dining rooms.
I would recommend this to anyone wanting care for a loved one as you can be assured they will be well looked after and cared for.

My dad came to Hawthorns in December 2023. He had Dementia and he took a little while to settle in. The staff are fantastic, always there to help residents and visitors. Dad was well looked after, they were always around if you needed help and always let our mum know any information that occurred. The
entertainment people always made sure that the residents are stimulated and busy.

My father was 7 years into his Alzheimer's and dementia. It eventually became too much for my mother. The family visited many care homes, but as soon as we visited Hamilton House we knew it was the place for Dad. He wandered at night and the Hamilton staff explained that there were no restrictions on
wandering, night staff had food and drink available 24/7 in case meals were missed while sleeping during the day. Unfortunately, Dad passed away last week. For the few months Dad was a resident, every single member of staff was outstanding. Without exception, every staff member showed compassion, care and love with absolute professionalism to the family but especially Dad. We were allowed to stay with him to the end. We will be forever grateful for everyone who worked at Hamilton for making Dad's last few days as comfortable as possible.

My mother-in-law has been at Hawthorns for quite a while now.
The staff are very attentive to the residents, they look after them very well and are always happy to help.
The Entertainment team try and keep the residents stimulated with varied activities and concerts.
They also make a point of celebrating
important days of the year including birthdays.
They have some great coffee mornings too when residents, family and staff get together.
The Management team are always available if required and very approachable.
They take time to speak to the residents and it shows they know their individual personalities and needs.
Any issues are also quickly resolved professionally.
They always make us feel very welcome and update us on how she has been that day.
We feel happy she is looked after when we are not there which is our main concern.

Hamilton House provided care for our Mum in her final weeks after a very traumatic five months. We found them a friendly home where she was treated with dignity and respect. While that sounds very clichéd, that was the experience; we saw staff speaking to the residents politely and acknowledging them
at all times. As a family, we were always greeted warmly by both staff and management. The home was always beautifully clean and warm and the residents were well catered for in every respect. The resident's rooms are a good size and well maintained, nicely decorated in calm warm colours, and with ample seats for visitors.
Mum lost her battle on 8th March, with my sister and I at her bedside. The sensitivity and sympathy of the nurses on duty throughout were highly appreciated.
We are both pleased to have found Hamilton House.

Following the passing of my wife on the 19th of January 2024, I must say how impressed our family is with the caring care and nursing care that my wife received during her time at Hamilton House (24/10/23 - 19/01/24).
The way in which all the staff treat the residents and their visitors is, in our
opinion, second to none. It is a true team effort.
Care and nursing is not a 'job', it is a 'calling' and my wife received both to such a high professional standard for her Alzheimers/Dementia and Bi-polar conditions, right up to the exact time that she passed.
The previous care home in which my wife had resided found great difficulty in providing the personal care which she required. Hamilton House had no such problem and her personal care changed from day one.

A very dear friend of mine was at Hawthorns for four months as she needed nursing care. During that time she was unable to get out of bed and she was not able to feed herself. The staff were always caring towards her and her needs, they fed her with patience and understanding, she was always clean.
They
responded quickly if I queried anything on my friend's behalf. My experience of the staff I came in contact with was welcoming and supportive.
At the end of my friend's life, everyone concerned including the GP, showed her, myself and her other visitors kindness and compassion.

If you are looking for a care home for a dementia patient then look no further.
My mother came here from another home which couldn't cope with her behaviour - but she fitted well into Hamilton House from day 1 and has been happy there.
The accommodation is very well laid out with lovely spacious corridors
that the residents can walk about in freely as if they were at home and nobody seems to mind anything!
It is very professionally run yet with a friendly touch - the staff are kind and affectionate to the residents and respect them.
When it came to end-of-life care we couldn't fault the care and attention and respect that the patient and family received from the staff along with a professional medical programme to keep her comfortable.

My dad has been at Hawthorns for a little over a year now. I have to say in his time here he has been very well looked after. The staff are always very considerate and caring. My dad is not the easiest of residents and can be very challenging for them, however they are always very kind and deal with
him calmly. This last weekend saw my dad reach 80, the home were very supportive of us spending time with him there, they allowed us to have a small family gathering in a room, they even put up some banners and balloons that made his whole day so special even after the family had left. All staff are always polite and so caring. Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart.
