My sister has lived here as a resident for the last 7 years, the high standard of care that is provided is excellent and I cannot fault the staff team who deal my all my sister's complex care needs on a daily basis. Management team are very approachable and any concerns/issues I have had are acted upon
promptly and effectively with a resolution in place, the office door is always open.

My mum has been at Birch Tree Manor since September 2022 having been diagnosed with dementia. She has been treated with dignity and respect by all the staff employed there; be them permanent or agency staff. They all have an excellent relationship with my mum and she always has a good word to say about
their attentive nature towards her. The care she is given is exemplary from the cleaner to the senior nurses right up to the manager. I believe the home could do with a light makeover; my mum's room needs a lick of paint and the food can sometimes be a little repetitive; it's the people there that make the difference. They are courteous towards visiting family members and go out of their way to include us in activities. It really is like one big family. I am more than happy to recommend Birch Tree Manor.

My mother's experience at Birch Tree Manor was dreadful: despite labelling all her clothes more than half of them went missing never to be seen again - brand new clothes from a quality high street store and quite expensive. She also had the remote control for her TV taken and a canvas of our family
which I don't have the photo for now. She went from being a size 10 to a size 18 in 6 months and always had sweets and treats in her room which she never ate when she was still at home. Before she left, the armchair vanished from her room so she had to sit on the bed. I felt she was a quiet resident and as a result she was ignored a lot of the time. Obviously we have now moved her.

I cannot recommend Birch Tree Manor highly enough. My amazing cousin lived at Birch Tree Manor for the last 2 plus years until his untimely death. The care, attention and dedication we all received was second to none and the staff became our second family. So much so that we still intend to visit and
take part in activities and events to support staff and residents. The staff and management are truly dedicated to all residents and do so much for them, they are unique and bonded and whatever they are paid, they should get more!!From the Chef, the Handyperson, one member of staff in the office, right up to the amazing management team, I cannot praise and thank them enough for all they did for my beloved cousin. I'm truly grateful to everyone for all their love, care and attention shown to us all as a family. Residents there are very fortunate to be in Birch Tree's care.

My mum has been in Birch Tree Manor since April. The home has made such a huge difference to her, she's so happy and settled and she loves all the care staff. For me and my brother, it has given us peace of mind knowing all her needs are met. I can't thank all the staff enough for the support and love
they give to my mum and how she is treated so well. I've not had any experience with care homes before so I was a bit wary, but I am so happy we chose Birch Tree it's exceptional.

Birch Tree Manor

from Dave H (Partner of Resident) published on 12 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My partner was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and went straight from hospital to Birch Tree Manor, in hospital she had stopped eating and was being fed through a PEG tube, after a short period of adjustment she started eating again and regained weight. She settled in well and we could see that
she was a lot more calm and happier. All the staff have been absolutely brilliant and it is through their help and efforts that my partner has improved. I cannot thank everyone enough for their kind, caring and professional help and service to my partner and also the support, advice and counselling to myself. Both the manager and assistant manager are very approachable, helpful and have answered any questions I have in a full and honest manner. The home has gone out of its way to make my partner's, stay as comfortable as possible, her room has been fully decorated with new blinds and extra safety equipment. In my opinion, Birch Tree Manor has and continues to go above and beyond.

1) Friendly, helpful staff.
2) Residents seem to sit too long in wet clothing.
3) Rooms/corridors don't smell very fresh and need decorating - extremely tired!
4) All areas need a deep clean, from front entrance of building to throughout all building.
5) Lounge area needs a refurb.

Amazed by the support and encouragement that my mother-in-law has received since moving into this care home, everyone says, don't place me in a 24-hour care home setting. They feel it will take their life away, my mother-in-law's life has been extended, highly improved, she was so sad, so confused,
so lonely at home, this has all changed, she has been encouraged to eat, which she was not doing, she would have died without their support, above all, she's happy. 24-hour care in the correct environment, with people who care, is not the end of life people envisage. My mother-in-law is cared for as myself and her family would wish, she is end of life but aren't we all. It's great she's cared for, the staff appear efficient, it is what we would wish. Thanks Birch Tree Manor.

The staff that I have met are caring concerned patient and attentive. They listen to relatives when discussing the needs of their loved ones. I feel confident that my brother is in safe hands and am happy knowing that the staff will notify us of anything that requires attention regarding his care if
we need to be informed.

My husband's transfer from hospital was delayed because of ill health. When he finally made it, the staff were superb and he settled in really well. I received daily updates until I could visit. He had stopped eating in hospital but was happy to eat at County Homes, with assistance.
I visited him
2 days after he moved in, he was deep in conversation with another resident and seemed very happy and settled.
Sadly, he didn't get to enjoy his new home for long. Ten days after arriving he developed another chest infection (he suffered from chronic fibrosis) and the staff kept me informed every step of the way. It had been agreed that he wasn't to be re-admitted to hospital so the staff administered medication to him. They kept him warm and comfortable and he received excellent medical care. I was so sad when he died suddenly but he could not have been with kinder or more caring people.
What an amazing home - all care homes should aspire to this standard. Superb!

My husband has Alzheimer's. It was very hard for me to admit that I could no longer cope with him at home. Placing him in care was really upsetting. He moved into York at County Homes in January. A staff member handled his arrival with great care and sensitivity, making him welcome and settling him
in comfortably. She kept me informed how he was doing while he settled in. When I visited him for the first time, he appeared so relaxed and happy it was like a miracle. All my fears and the terrible stories you hear about care homes were forgotten. The agitation he showed constantly at home seemed almost gone. All the staff I have met so far seem friendly and caring and happy to see me and to help in any way. The different security codes for 3 doors to get out convinced me that he was secure and safe. The most important thing of all, thanks to the great efforts of the team is that he looks happy again. Thank you all.

My mum moved from residential care into Birch Tree Manor and I will admit, I was apprehensive. However, I can honestly say that the care Mum now receives is amazing! She used to show challenging behaviour daily and spent all day in bed but now she is so happy and clearly adores all of the staff who
care for her and is always up in the lounge whenever I visit. She is also given lots of lovely food and has gained weight since the move. (Very happy daughter).

My mother-in-law moved into Birch Tree Manor after a long spell in hospital. The manager visited her there to get to know her and check that the home was suitable. Birch Tree is bright and clean and the staff are all so caring and professional. Recently my mother-in-law law has been ill and needed a
lot of extra care. The carers have been diligent in repositioning her regularly and encouraging her to eat and drink as much as possible. They are so kind and warm towards her and very gentle when moving her. Her face lights up when they come into her room. The staff have also been very kind and caring to us as family and the manager has kept a close eye on things and kept us fully informed.

Birch Tree Manor is an amazing and outstanding care home. All the staff are kind, caring, loving and fully understand the needs of people who have dementia. All residents are treated the same, with empathy. My brother is one of the residents in the home, he's loved and very happy there. Even the visitors
and treated very well, offered drinks and always kept advised about his well-being. The home deserves all the commendations it receives.

Having to put my husband into care (due to deterioration of his dementia) was a difficult decision. Would he be looked after properly, medication given correctly (he has Type 1 Diabetes), kept clean and fed properly? I needn't have worried; the staff at Birch Tree Manor are wonderful and look after
my husband as if he were their own family. Everywhere is lovely and clean, the food is good and the staff are very professional. The Home Manager and Deputy are very approachable and happy to answer any concerns. I am so glad my husband is in such a welcoming and caring home and thank everyone for taking such good care of him. I know he is safe and well cared for.

I have visited my great uncle on multiple occasions and the staff have always been extremely accommodating for us as we usually visit with 3-5 of us with one being in a wheelchair. My great uncle has never looked as healthy as he does now, we are extremely happy with the service that has been provided
for him. I work in nursing myself and know signs to look for of poor care and I have absolutely no concerns for here! My great uncle has made requests that only certain people can visit and the home always check who we are on arrival ensuring the safety of my uncle, it did take two or three requests from the family to put this in place but since we submitted in writing it’s been done! Which I am extremely pleased with. The staff are extremely friendly and he seems happy with all of them. The place is always clean and tidy when we go and smells fresh. I’ve not seen my uncle look this happy, settled and healthy in many years! So a huge thanks to the home as I know my uncle is a cheeky chappy but you have been amazing with him!

It has been a pleasure to see the improvements in my brother-in-law since his residency in County Homes. The residential nursing home is the finest I have ever visited and the staff have given a great deal of help in getting my brother-in-law settled and looking much better than when he was accepted.
Well done!
