Hallamshire

from Sheila M (Wife of Resident) published on 24 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My lovely husband had Alzheimer's and by January 2024. It was clear that I could not continue to look after him well at home despite my best efforts. He suffered from anxiety and was displaying crazy, unpredictable behaviour. My daughter researched care homes in Sheffield as she could see we were both heading
into unstable and scary waters.
We were so fortunate that the Hallamshire care home was able to offer him a place in late January 2024.
From day one of entering the home he relaxed as though the weight of the world had fallen from his shoulders. He really enjoyed being looked after by the staff who were unfailingly kind to him and the crazy behaviour he had been exhibiting disappeared completely.
We were able to enjoy many of the activities the home staff arranged. During the 13 months he was there until his death on 2 March, which was calm and peaceful he was treated with respect and kindness and humour!

Reply from Karen Betts, Manager at Hallamshire

Thank you for your kind words, they are very much appreciated by myself and the team. Its great to know your experience of Hallamshire was so positive. We strive to continually offer a high standard of care so its good to know we are getting it right!

My Mother has been in Nightingale for approx 15 months.
I can honestly say it has been a 'god send'. She has settled in really well and received exceptional care. From the manager to all carers and office staff, everyone is friendly and welcoming.
Activities are varied and there is a great atmosphere.
The
choice of menu is good and the chef is so accommodating. Would have no hesitation in recommending Nightingale.

Oaklands Nursing Home

from Sally G (Daughter of Resident) published on 7 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My Mother's room is spacious and comfortable. There has been a lot of building works going on but these are almost complete and the new balcony and garden will be a lovely asset in the Summer.
The staff are friendly and go out of their way to ensure the residents are comfortable and happy.
The Manager
and Deputy Manager are always very responsible to any queries or concerns I have and keep me fully informed.
Visitors are welcomed at any time and there is a warm, informal atmosphere.
I work as a Health Professional myself and am very aware of how difficult working in this sector is , but Oaklands have made a marked improvement in my mum's general health and well-being.
I found the idea of placing my mum in a Nursing Home very difficult, and I looked around at a number of homes but feel I made the .right choice with Oaklands, and am relaxed that my mum is well cared for.

Reply from Beti Koder, Manager at Oaklands Nursing Home

Thank you very much for your lovely review. We are very proud to hear that you are happy with your moms placement and you think she is looked after well. Thank you also for being so understanding and supportive during this building work.

I have visited the wife of a friend here on a couple of occasions and I am always impressed by the attentiveness of the staff, what is going on in the home and how happy all the residents look.
From speaking to my friend, he confirms that his wife is not just cared for, but loved by the staff. The
attitude displayed is that this is one big family and that the care doesn't stop at the exit, but that it extends to the families at home as well.

Reply from Kate Biddlecombe, Home manager at Oak Tree Lodge

My mum has been a resident at Oak Tree Lodge since October 2022. She was originally placed in a different care home, under the discharge to assess process, but I found it necessary to look for somewhere else for her to live, as she was being neglected and left alone for many hours in the NHS provided
home. Oak Tree Lodge was recommended to me by a friend whose mum was a resident. I went for a visit, and met with the manager and her assistant, who were both lovely and welcoming, and very understanding of my situation. Luckily for me and my mum, a place became available not long afterwards, and I was able to move mum there. All the staff are wonderful and attentive, and are able to deal with my mums complex needs. They have lots of activities, that they try to get mum involved with, and they go out of their way to make sure mum has the foods she likes. Although mum isn't always easy, they treat her like she is part of their family, and I no longer have to worry about her care.

Reply from Kate Biddlecombe, Home manager at Oak Tree Lodge

This being my first introduction to care home living, I was naturally apprehensive. Being unaware of what I was entering made me watch my step to start with, but gradually I got used to my new environment (and it got used to me, I hope). Various things I have to get used to but with the help from the
staff (all levels) I think I'm adjusting quite well. I am lucky to have a good relationship and I have frequent friends who are made welcome and keep me in touch with my past life. In short, we've got used to each other as we're going to spend a lot of time together. Things could be worse but I know it's going to get better. Thanks, Crofthead Care Home!

I am very pleased with the standard of care given to my father. All staff are friendly and it is clear that they care for the residents, are interested in each person and want to give high quality care. Activities are varied and interesting and designed to include everyone and their individual interests
- there are also lots of trips out. Rooms and other facilities are clean and well-ordered, garden nicely kept, rooms are comfortable with good quality furniture - feels very warm and homely. Communication between myself and staff is very good and I am kept informed in a timely manner of any health concerns. Charlton Kings Care Home

from Hayley A (Daughter of Resident) published on 31 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

The staff at Charlton Kings Care Home are truly amazing - I have always called them mum's angels without wings! My mum went into the care home in April 2022 and sadly passed away in December 2024. She had dementia and was so incredibly well looked after by all the staff who were cheerful, smiling, kind,
considerate and thoughtful. They treated mum with huge respect and with great affection, she loved them, and as dementia began to further take control of her, the staff helped us to navigate her final years as we witnessed her struggle with loss of memories and independence as heartbreaking as it was humbling. While the experience of dementia tested our strength as a family, it also deepened our bond, supported by the manager and the wonderful team at the care home. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and whilst our mum is now at peace, free from the struggles of this world, Charlton Kings Care Home and their excellent team will remain forever in our hearts.

Reply from Jan Makin, Manager at Charlton Kings Care Home

Dear Hayley, Thank you so much for your beautiful and heartfelt words. It means the world to us to know that your mum felt loved, respected, and well cared for during her time with us. It was a privilege to be part of her journey, and we are truly grateful for the trust you placed in us. Dementia can be such a challenging and emotional path, and we admire the strength, love, and dedication you and your family showed throughout. We are honoured to have been able to support you all through this time, and we hope that the memories of your mum's warmth and amazing spirit bring you comfort. Your kind words will be shared with the entire team, who will no doubt be touched to know they made a lasting impact. We will always hold your mum and your family in our hearts.

from Steve A (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 28 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Choosing Charlton Kings Care Home, led by the Manager and supported by an excellent team, was one of the best decisions we made for my mother-in-law's wellbeing.
The staff at the care home are warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. They treated her with dignity and respect, which was so important
as her Dementia worsened
The staff not only provided expert care for her physical needs but also made sure she felt comfortable and safe.
Their understanding of dementia and the challenges it brings was evident in everything they did but what stood out the most was the emotional support we received as a family.
In the final months of her life, we were grateful for the kindness, patience, and empathy the staff showed not only to her but to all of us.
If you're looking for a place where your loved ones will receive exceptional care and kindness during their most vulnerable moments, I highly recommend Charlton Kings Care Home.

I have been in Orchar Nursing Home for one month. What a wonderful treat, not to do anything just sit and wait for all my designated helpers to assist me with all my needs. So lovely to see a happy smiling face and hear the words, good morning Joan. The we trip off arm in arm and have our breakfast.
The food here is just very good, just like home cooking, best bit is no dishes to wash. I feel very very much part of the extended family of Orchar. The whole place shines. The staff are all wonderful.
