Choosing a home for a loved one is hard. Compton Lodge scores top marks on what matters - my friend loves the staff who are fantastic and stay for years (a great sign of a good employer); he has a lovely room where visitors can meet as well as access to several day rooms - not just one. The garden is
glorious especially in sunshine. He is well cared for in every possible way, with lots of visits from staff, good meals and regular tea and cake. Home from Home. And the staff team are kindness itself to those of us responsible for the residents.

Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Compton Lodge

We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us such a great review. I know the team strive very hard to create a warm and friendly home from home for all our residents, and a place where their loved ones will enjoy visiting them - and hopefully get to enjoy a piece of cake too! Twenty years ago my mother arrived at Compton Lodge from Nottingham where she had been living alone approaching her 90th birthday and increasingly anxious and dependent.
She was excited to move and be bear to her family especially a new great granddaughter with whom she was to spend many happy hours
and who was to edit the CL Weekly Newsletter during covid, and came to the Summer Fair last year.
Compton Lodge not only cared for my mother but welcomed our family as members of this warm community. And since she passed has enabled us to enjoy our memories and keep in touch with old friends as members of the Friends and Relatives Group. Thankyou!!!

Compton Lodge

from M M (Partner of Resident) published on 19 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My partner has been a resident at Compton lodge since November 2022. Unlike clinical nursing homes, Compton Lodge feels like a real home - set in a beautiful Edwardian house with a large, well-maintained garden that residents can enjoy year-round.
The staff are dedicated, patient and compassionate
and the managers are incredibly accommodating, always available to address concerns and quick to take action. Medical issues are promptly addressed, with staff liaising with the necessary professionals and keeping families fully informed.
With three talented chefs on rotation, residents enjoy fresh, high quality meals in a dining room that has the feel of a restaurant. There is a strong focus on engagement and activity, with a particular emphasis on musical events and birthdays are marked by a homemade cake shared among residents, adding to the sense of community.
While the facilities and environment are lovely, it is the dedication of the staff that makes this home exceptional.

Cecil Court

from A L (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 25 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother-in-law was struggling to look after her rural home and Cecil Court was the perfect place for her to have a two-week respite. The team were super helpful in arranging a tricky transition and very welcoming to her. We weren't sure if it would be a permanent move and in fact she decided to give
independent living another try, albeit in a smaller flat closer to her family. Having her cocooned in Cecil Court during these difficult discussions was a godsend and there was a lot of understanding and advice from the team, even though we were in and out quickly. We'd definitely consider Cecil Court again in the future, especially if dementia becomes an issue. Thanks to everyone there.

Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Cecil Court

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review and for picking Cecil Court when it came to looking for a respite stay for your mother-in-law! We are very happy to have been able to provide a safe environment for her when she needed it and do hope that she is settled and comfortable in her new flat. We are also very pleased to hear that you would consider us again in the future if ever needed!

Compton Lodge

from Lucy V (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 21 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My grandma has been a resident for nearly two years. She is 98 years old and has dementia. At home, she had taken to spending her days in bed, but here at the Compton Lodge, she is up every day, dressed and downstairs with other residents. The staff are friendly and caring. The food looks very nice,
especially on Sundays. Some of the rooms are fabulous with direct access to the beautiful gardens. Even the location near Primrose Hill is very nice as we can visit and then go for a walk afterwards. At Compton Lodge, they put on quite a lot of events to keep residents entertained. Dementia isn't easy to cope with, but they do a very good job. The home may not be the most modern, but it has a unique and charming character that makes it feel special.

Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Compton Lodge

My mother has been a resident at Compton Lodge since November, having moved from her home of 60 years into care for the first time.
Every effort has been made to welcome and accommodate her and enable her to settle into the new environment and routine. She finds the staff to be kind and caring and
any problems have been sorted promptly. As her nearest relative, I have always been kept informed of what is happening and am consistently reassured that she is in the best possible hands.

Cecil Court

from Noelle M (Daughter of Resident) published on 23 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

In the few days between us finding Cecil Court, and mum's discharge from hospital, her room was painted with her choice of decor, and we moved some personal things in so that she felt comfortable when she arrived. Mum enjoyed many of the activities on offer, especially the live music and visits from
local schools. The staff team were very kind to mum. Concerns about mum's health care were dealt with swiftly and professionally by the responsive management team.
But the most important aspect of mum's 18 month stay at Cecil Court, was that we felt mum was safe there and that all the staff, including the cleaner and the cook, cared about mum's well-being. It genuinely felt like a home from home and a family community, and we will always be indebted to everyone in the team for making mum's last months as happy as they could be.

Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Cecil Court

We are privileged to have been able to support your mum at this time in her life and to have provided a safe and homely environment where she was comfortable and happy. My wife has been in the care home for two years with Alzheimer's. For me, it is an absolutely horrible experience. However, the care home makes the situation much better. Of course, in this specific situation, all is not perfect nor would I expect it to be. But, it is a place where my wife has to be
and the staff are terrific, loving, hugging and tender (to me as well!). Well above the call of duty. The surroundings are pleasant. The management appears to make every effort to ensure all is as good as could be expected.
My wife does not know the names of anybody there, residents or staff but seems to be as happy as she can be under the circumstances.

Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Homemead

Thank you for your kind words. We understand how difficult it can be making the decision to move a loved one to a care home but are grateful that we have been able to support your wife and provide a caring and loving environment where she is comfortable. My mother has been a resident of Homemead for 5 years and we couldn't be happier. She is treated with dignity and care and has a smile on her face which is invaluable and reassuring. The staff are caring and attentive and treat my mother like one of their own!
The home has recently had a refurb which
is great and although there are other homes in the area none for me offered the homely, communal, reassuring atmosphere that Homemead does. I would definitely recommend the home to others.

My mother has dementia and has been at Homemead since May 2024 - Her general health has improved since moving from her home and having regular care, meals and people around I believe are a great benefit to her. She has visits from her friends as she lived in Teddington her whole life, so being accessible
for them is a benefit. There is always parking, but not always private spaces to have conversations (other than her room).
I live far away I only get to visit once every 3 to 4 months, so it would be useful if I could have a regular (fortnightly / monthly) one-on-one with the care team (over video chat) to get some feedback on her condition.
The staff have always been helpful and have time to chat.
The staff have also attended to her specific needs where she requests them.

Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Homemead

It is wonderful to hear that your mother's overall health has improved since moving to Homemead and that she is still close to her friends and the community that she knows. In terms of receiving regular feedback via video chat please do reach out directly to the Home Manager who would be very happy to accommodate this and set something up that suits you. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback - we really appreciate it.

from Vanessa C (Daughter of Resident) published on 19 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

The carers at Homemead are a 10/10. They genuinely care about the residents and they will often cuddle, laugh, sing and dance with them. They are warm and kind and it shows in the way the residents interact with them. When I can't visit I feel assured that my mum is safe and well looked after. There
are lots of agency staff but that goes with the territory because of the poor pay for care workers, however, I have only seen them be hard-working and gentle with the residents. The team leaders are proactive and if you have a concern you know it will be dealt with. They lead with enthusiasm and kindness.
Homemead has recently had a facelift - it looks really good and suits the age of the property. I would like to see more activities to help pass the days, including more gardening and outside activities in the warmer months.

Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Homemead

Thank you so much for such wonderful feedback. We are so proud of our team and the warm, homely and caring environment that they create for all residents and we are pleased to hear such positive things about the recent redecoration too! In terms of activities, there will definitely be more plans for days out as soon as the weather allows and in the meantime, we are working closely with our Engagement Officer to develop the range of activities for residents to get involved in on a day to day basis. Homemead is a small, friendly home with a caring staff team and my mum always seems happy and well looked after when I visit. As her needs have changed and she needs more input, the staff have always responded quickly and kept me informed which I appreciate. A couple of areas for improvement would be,
less reliance on agency staff, as obviously they are less involved and less aware of individual needs than the permanent staff. Also whilst I can't fault communication when it is an essential or emergency situation, sometimes on an everyday level it can be a bit up and down, it would be great to have a more regular update on mum and any needs she has or activities she's been involved in etc. However, overall, I am happy to have found Homemead for mum as she is happy, safe and well cared for.

Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Homemead

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that your mother is happy living at Homemead and that you have found the team responsive and caring. We are always keen to gain feedback on areas we can improve and welcome your helpful comments. Firstly we are delighted to report that great progress has been made to eliminate agency use for all but the most urgent cover needs and we continue to work to build our bank team - so that we have casual staff known to the residents. We have also worked on trying to develop a newsletter for the home offering updates on the activities on offer and we hope this will assist. If however people do have specific needs or wishes in terms of how we communicate with them we will always seek to support so please do speak with the management team if there is more we can do to support you. Once again thank you for taking the time to leave a review - it's really important to us to hear your feedback.
