I have had nothing but good experiences. Staff are caring, supportive and extremely friendly. All supporting facilities are very good. E.g food, activities etc. The room is a little small and tucked away, but she does appear to be content with it. All in all, a lovely place for her care, safety and
companionship.

My mother was transferred to Culm Valley from the RD&E Hospital on January 14th, 2025, for palliative care. She lived for a further month or so. During that time, I was extremely impressed by the high quality of support and level of nursing care. My mum was made very comfortable, and died peacefully
on February 21st. The staff were always courteous and considerate to me and my wife, and mum was always treated with the highest of regard and respect. She was never made to do anything she didn't want to. As an aside, the food looked good - certainly a step or two up from the hospital.
So, if you have a relative that is coming to end of life and it's important to you that they pass in comfort with care, support and dignity, I would recommend that you consider the Culm Valley Care Centre in Cullompton. Five star all round.

Reply from Ann Bright, Registered Manager at Culm Valley Care Centre

Thank you for your kind words, we are pleased your Mother was always comfortable here. It was a privilege to be able to look after her at the end of her life and support to you through the process.

This care home is such a breath of fresh air from the previous care home experience. They are very attentive to their residents and offer superb dementia care. If mother rings her bell they are there within a couple of minute and deal with whatever is needed. They go the extra mile when required to
offer comfort and company to their residents. Even the manager gets involved with the residents during her working day to talk or maybe assist. The food offered is of a very good quality and with variety. There always seems to be adequate staff on shift and I can recommend this care home enough.

The staff at The Fountains were extremely kind and caring towards my dad - going the extra mile for sure! He was well looked after in every aspect eg provision of meals, medicines and personal care. All carried out very thoughtfully and with a smile! As my dad reached the end of his life he had constant
company from the staff who also took the time to take the phone to him so we could speak to him. As a family we lived a long distance away but I absolutely felt I could entrust my dad to the care of the Fountains team.

I felt compelled to write this review for the exceptional care provided to my mother during her stay at Pinnex House/Ashdown Nursing Home.
The high level of professionalism and dedication I witnessed from every member of staff. From the nurses and care assistants to the kitchen staff and housekeeping,
everyone demonstrated a genuine care and respect for the residents, while maintaining a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
This compassionate approach was evident not only in the excellent care provided to my mother but also in the way staff interacted with other residents and their families. The respect and dignity afforded to all was truly commendable. I believe this positive and supportive environment significantly contributed to my mother's well-being during her stay.
Thank you again for the outstanding care provided to my mother and all the residents of Pinnex Moor House Nursing Home.

Great establishment. Far better than others we looked at locally. Staff are caring, friendly and empathetic. Leadership team in the home work well to ensure comfort, safety and dignity of relatives. The meals are great. Nothing is too much trouble despite, what I'm sure, are some demanding residents.
I'd certainly recommend Nightingale House Care Centre above any others I've experienced.

My mother underwent an operation and following a month-long stay in hospital needed further rehabilitation care before eventually returning home. She and my father have been married for 75 years and she found it extremely difficult to be parted. The staff were very welcoming to my father who spent hours
with her every day. From the moment we were offered a place at Ashdowne Care Centre we were reassured. The manageress came into the hospital to meet with the family and discuss the care needed and to chat with Mum to make sure this would be a good fit. My sister and I then met with the nursing manager. Her comment of "this is the home of the residents and I feel it a privilege to work here " really summed up the whole philosophy of the home. Each and every member of staff we encountered from there on has been, kind, caring, efficient and above all "smiley". Mum has been in for 5 weeks and is well enough to now return home. A heartfelt thank you to all!

Homer Lodge Care Centre

from K M (Daughter of Resident) published on 2 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

My dad went to Homer Lodge for respite and physio after a spell in hospital. He was put on the 3rd floor at the end of the corridor for 3 days and nights. There was a constant alarm going off (obviously a resident was pressing the alarm although no one was attending). On the 3rd morning of him being
there a carer walked in to his bedroom at around 7am, pulled his quilt off him then pulled his pyjama bottoms down (dad being half asleep asked what she was doing). She then pulled his quilt back over him and said you don't have a nappy to change and walked out. Dad is not incontinent. This should never have happened, there is no dignity in this place. Myself and siblings took him out of there were he is now recovering at home.

Reply from Bogdan Florea, care home manager at Homer Lodge Care Centre

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I'm very sorry to hear about your concerns. We take dignity, respect, and quality of care very seriously at Homer Lodge, so it's upsetting to learn about your experience. I want to assure you that we investigated this matter thoroughly. Our records indicate that all care provided to your father was in line with his needs. He was independent with personal care, mobilized to the toilet unaided, and there were no incontinence checks as he didn't require them. Night staff didn't recall the described incident, and documentation reflects only life and well-being checks during his stay. We also noted your father enjoyed meals, interacted positively, and expressed appreciation for the care received. We're sorry this issue wasn't brought to our attention immediately, as this would've allowed us to address your concerns directly. Please feel free to reach out so we can discuss further. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve.

We arrived at Ashdowne Care Centre understanding we had a short time left with Dad. It has been about just looking after Dad and caring for his needs ie his catheter and swabs for his mouth as he's not been able to drink or eat. The staff are amazing, they come every hour to tend to Dad. He is made
as comfortable as possible, the level of care is exceptional actually not only for him but for my mum, they have truly been the very best they could be for them both. I'm so grateful. They turn Dad every hour and they have had a lovely clean room with every facility necessary. I would not hesitate to have Mum here or recommend to others. We as a family are so very grateful to everyone, the staff are amazing.
