Sandford Care Home

from B C (Partner of Resident) published on 5 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

It is a pleasure to write this review for Sandford Care Home where I have been a weekly visitor to the dementia unit for the past four and a half years.
On entry, the ambience with the light bright and airy decor, furnishing and displays presents a warm welcoming, attention to detail and loving care
home which is exactly what it is. Sandford is competent and led by a qualified, caring, inspirational leadership team. Manager is very and always pleasant, approachable as are all staff. Issues if any are resolved quickly and with discretion. Teamwork is good. Treat residents like family and this is amazing and humbling. Sandford is a home-from-home and for me simply the best.

The Laurels

from Pauline A (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 February 2025

The Laurels was offered as one of several choices for respite care. It was hard to acknowledge but with advancing dementia the decision had to be made and was right for Mum. The staff at The Laurels work so hard to ensure that she is loved and cared for so brilliantly well. They are quick to respond
to her changing needs, to enlist help from community nurses and specialist teams as required to keep her well. The food is home-cooked with a wonderful aroma greeting you at the door! Daily activities offer great variety and entertainment, posted on social media for families to see! Today was flower arranging. They say a picture paints a thousand words. Seeing a photo of Mum enjoying herself, a wonderful glimpse beyond the dementia of our very dear mum! Reassured Mum is settled, safe and well cared for, enables us to be daughters once again, the opportunity to take her out, to really enjoy being with Mum, making precious memories for the future!

I would recommend this fabulous nursing/care home, especially to families who are starting to search for a place for a relative which we know can be taunting and very emotional. My mum has been here a year. The care is superb from everyone who works here they are kind caring and have very good quality
nursing care it is like a big family who also take care of us and there are always activities. Trips out when the better weather arrives. The food smells delicious when you walk through the front door nothing is too much trouble and it is a happy place to be.

Holly Bank

from J B (Son of Resident) published on 28 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Very good care home, facilities are of a high standard and well maintained. Staff are well trained, have very good empathy and are highly competent. Position on the promenade at Arnside gives a lovely view over Morecambe Bay which my mother enjoys. Local trips and in-house treats and entertainment are
frequent.
My father died recently and the end of life care he received at Holly Bank was of the highest order. Care staff in the home and the local District Nurse team worked together to very good effect.
The decision to place your parents into full-time residential care is not an easy one and I'm glad I choose Holly Bank. They refer to the Holly Bank 'family' and this is no exaggeration.

Sandford Care Home

from Lorraine W (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mum has been a resident at Sandford Care Home now approaching twelve months. Initially she found it difficult to adjust but after a number of weeks of attentive care and staff encouragement also coupled with moving to a new room, she quickly settled.
The care staffs help and support at all times
has been of the highest standard. It is noticeable that all staff are engaging and communicative, which includes the maintenance, domestic and catering staff which makes my mum's residency more of a familiar community and she usually shows signs of being content, happy and always treated with respect and dignity. Although rarely needed, contact with the management or administrative staff is easily accessible.
Overall the environment is welcoming, clean, tidy and safe as are the individual rooms. Meal times are rightly protected but the food I have seen appears to be appetising, varied and of ample portions. When visiting, I can find my mum happily interacting with other residents in the day area or frequently engaged in the many regular activities on offer. Alternatively she occasionally decides to spend some private time in her room, which is respected by the staff. I'm satisfied my mum is being well looked after.

Sadly our mother passed away on the 2nd January, she was so well looked after by the staff, they are very caring and attentive. I would rather not pick anyone out, they were all fabulous. I can recommend this home without reservation. Our mother was there for three years, she was very happy and settled,
despite her dementia. Although she was very passive there was a lot of work for them to do. One point worth mentioning, is the substantial renovation and upgrades which have made the home even more comfortable.

My Aunt has been in Sandford for over three years now and has been very well looked after. She was very frail and underweight when she first arrived and she made a marked improvement after a couple of months, with good food and proper care. The staff are kind, caring and professional and the manager
is great and very positive. They are quick to communicate if she is unwell, which I really appreciate. It really means a lot to me that she is in safe hands. Sandford is clean, bright, and freshly decorated. A big thank you to the manager and all the staff.
