When I visit my friend I always get a lovely greeting from the ladies in the office and the staff that I meet. The staff are very caring in what is a very hard job. They are patient and kind and treat the residents with respect. They have a sense of humour which is essential in this job. I have had
experience of other homes not in this region and I think this is an exceptional one.

My mum has been at the knights for nearly 3 months and for most of this time she has been poorly with infections. This has made her care needs greater and her behaviour has been more challenging. The care staff are caring, respectful and kind. The manager is always there to support and keep on top of
things. The senior carer has been great, voicing concerns and keeping me updated. The home is clean and food is good. The activities are great for the residents also. I made the right decision moving her from another home and am grateful for the care my mum is being given.

I don't normally leave reviews but I am so pleased with the ongoing care my mum is receiving here.
All of the staff from the manager downwards are engaging and helpful and genuinely seem interested in the people around them.
I am extremely happy to leave my mother in their care and feel assured she
is being looked after and as such would highly recommend The Knights.

My mother needed respite care with a view to permanent residency into a care home. We approached the managers at The Knights care home and we were guided through all our options with care and compassion. Both managers went above and beyond to make sure my mum had everything she needed to make her experience
the best it could be with very short notice. Since returning home after her quick respite break my mum decided she needed permanent care. I contacted them again and they guided me through what was required and secured a room that has surpassed my mums expectations. I can't thank them enough for their guidance and the care and understanding of my mums needs. I would recommend The Knights for anybody looking for a safe environment for their relative's

Reply from Mary Mills, Manager at The Knights Retirement Home

Hi Grahame, I am so happy that you felt supported and guided through this difficult experience. It is quite hard to navigate social care at times.

My hubby has been in The Knights Care home for two and a half months. The staff are amazing especially the manager. She is always at the end of the phone if you need to speak to her and will do her best to sort out any problems. My husband is happy and well looked after and have no problem recommending
this home.

It was a sad and upsetting time when we realised my dad needed to be looked after in a care home. Fortunately for my dad and for our family, we found the staff to be welcoming, kind and professional. Dad was helped to make friends with the other residents, and this also helped him to settle.
As my
dad’s health deteriorated, the staff adapted their care, met his needs accordingly and always had his best interests at heart.
My family and I are grateful that my dad was looked after there and highly recommend The Old Vicarage.
Many thanks to everyone who works there.

Everybody is friendly and there has been more communication from the home lately and the activities are more varied now. I have every confidence in this care

The Old Vicarage provides a safe and secure home where staff make a real effort to get to know their residents and their needs, their interests and conversation. Real improvements in the environment have taken place recently to make the home more attractive and inviting to residents and visitors alike.
Activity days offer variety, enjoyable experiences and laughter. Well done to all members of staff who have worked so hard in recent months.

My mum is a resident at The Knights Retirement Home and has been for around 14 months. The home is absolutely brilliant and the staff can’t do enough for Mum. She has a good-sized room with a lot of the furniture from her old house to make her feel at home.
There is always a choice of menu or, if Mum
prefers, they will make her something that she has picked up from the shops when we take her out.
Mum prefers to stay in her room a lot of the time as she has problems with her mobility but there are always activities going on that Mum can take part in if she chooses. The staff member who provides the activities is always happy to go up to Mum's room to include her in the baking and other activities if she wants to join in.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating and Mum has quite taken a shine to one or two of them.
All in all, it was the best thing for Mum to move her into the care system and we couldn’t have chosen a nicer place.

The Knights Retirement Home

Mum has been resident at The Knights for around three years now after the dreaded day arrived when we finally realised that home care was no longer an option due to her dementia. There have been many ups and downs during the period since (the downs being mainly due to incorrect medication prescribed
by doctors), but no matter what mood Mum was in, the love and care shown to her by all the staff was beyond dedication. Although Mum's age and condition mean she is viewed as just a statistic by most doctors the management team at The Knights were always in 'my corner' when I was fighting 'the NHS system' for the best care and treatment for Mum...the manager and her staff will never know how grateful I am for this support, but, to put it bluntly, I don't think Mum would still be with us today without their love and support and I can't say thank you enough. The activities at The Knights are second to none and most days are like a holiday camp rather than a care home.

Reply from Mary Mills, Manager at The Knights Retirement Home

Thank you, Ian, you worked just as hard as we did. Without your support, we would not have got your mum through her illness.

My father, who needs lots of care, with deaf/blind medical needs, and who has dementia, is having excellent care and support. I and my family feel he is safe, cared for and well looked after and all his needs are taken care of by the brilliant staff. My father is lucky enough to have been allowed to
take his dog with him who has now also become part of The Knights family. The kindness of the staff who organise lots of unique activities for their guests is amazing. Can't praise them enough!

My aunt has been a resident at The Knights Care Home for over two years. The staff make every effort to cater for her needs and she always speaks highly of them and how well they look after her.
A typical description is kind, caring and patient at all hours of the day.
My husband and I live a long
distance away so rely on making regular phone calls which are always dealt with efficiently and we are able to speak to my aunt directly. In addition, we are kept well informed of all developments with regard to my aunt's welfare with regular calls from the manager.
We visit every couple of months and are always given a warm welcome and assistance with taking my aunt out.
I would highly recommend The Knights to others as a caring and efficiently run establishment.

Mum has been a resident at The Knights Retirement Home since June 2021. Mum has advanced dementia and challenging behaviours at times. Initially, Mum was quite unsettled and not compliant with personal care, being verbally and physically aggressive to staff on occasions. The manager kept us informed
and through the staff's care and perseverance, Mum's behaviours have now calmed down to a manageable level allowing the care staff to meet Mum's needs. Any medical needs are acted on in a timely manner bringing in the GP if required.
The Knights have an activity coordinator who is excellent and provides a wide range of activities each day including baking, singing, painting, outings and parties for any special days. Mum is now unable to engage in some of these activities, however, this does not mean she is excluded. She is encouraged to join in whatever way she can. Mum enjoys the lovely food provided.
We are so grateful to the management and staff for their ongoing care. It is a relief to know she is being cared for so well.

Reply from Mary Mills, Manager at The Knights Retirement Home

My mother was cared for at The Old Vicarage from November 2022 until her death in January 2023. She was treated with kindness and understanding by the manager and her team. My mother's dementia made her understanding and behaviour different from day to day, and she was not always easy to care for. The
staff always started each day afresh and responded to her moods and allowed her to choose when and how things happened, whilst maintaining her safety and dignity. My sister and I were always kept informed of any changes in her condition and we attended regular reviews to decide on her care. The home worked well with the excellent GP service at Fernbank to ensure my mother had a peaceful death. Like most families, we did not want our mother to end her life in a residential home, but it was an unsafe situation in her own home. Given this The Old Vicarage was the next best and I will always be grateful to them.

Mum has been a resident at the Knights since May 2021. She has dementia and is registered blind and severely sight impaired so things haven’t been easy for her or the family. It was hard to put her in care but we feel we have done the best for her. She is very well cared for at the Knights and treated
with respect which is very important.
The activities coordinator, does an excellent job organising activities to keep the residents stimulated, although due to Mum's impaired vision she cannot partake in some of them.
The food is of good quality and looks delicious and the staff are kind and caring as is the manager.

My ninety-four year old mother has stayed with The Knights on a few occasions now to help with her care and progressive dementia. We felt trepidation being her regular carers about how she would feel, but once she is with them she actively engages with other residents and the carers.
The atmosphere
is always cheerful and positive and Mum actually is brighter when we pick her up, no doubt because she has been stimulated by the activities and the social aspect of The Knights' environment.
I would recommend this home to anyone seeking respite or care for a loved family member.

My mother has been a resident at The Knights for a year now.
It was only supposed to be for respite as she had been in hospital, however, the manager and all the staff were so kind and helpful that our family decided it would be beneficial to Mum to make it her permanent home.
The manager could not
have been more helpful in making Mum happy and moving her to a bigger room.
There are always activities available for residents that want it, days out and visits from entertainers.
Our family is very happy with Mum's care, she has been able to take her own furniture with her so that she feels as if she is still in her own home.
I would definitely recommend The Knights if you are considering residential care.
