From the moment I asked about the care home, I was put at ease. A warm welcome on my visit, all questions answered with a please phone if you think of anything else. Mum always says she "is happy here". She had made new friends. She enjoys activities and I was able to join Mum for Christmas shows and
a wonderful Christmas day lunch too.

A real home-from-home care home. The staff are wonderful, going over and beyond. So caring.
The residents appear to be content in their surroundings. Quite the nicest care home I have visited and I have been to quite a few, visiting family and friends.
The manager was very welcoming, it was obvious
to me the care she had for her residents.
It's lovely to see and 'feel' such a lovely care home.

On visiting a friend, it was obvious how dedicated all the staff were to ensuring the care and comfort of all the residents. The care home was clean and comfortable too. The food smells from the kitchen were enticing also. Lots of games and jigsaws on offer too.

This was our first experience of respite care for our mother. Tudor House was very considerate to her needs. Carers were all very friendly and Mum was very appreciative of the care they gave her and her needs, made her feel very welcome. She enjoyed her meals (she wasn't eating well before because of
being poorly). Her legs improved and sores disappeared. Ideal place to have in mind going forward and a good experience and happy for all.

Mum became a resident from August 2019 until she passed away 6 weeks ago. Following a hospital stay in May, her health rapidly declined, and it was very evident she was sadly approaching end-of-life. At this point, my relationship with the care manager and her deputy had all but completely broken down.
We couldn't ask anything about Mum's deteriorating health without being met with an aggressive response. Even when Mum passed away, it was a phone call informing me that she had stopped breathing! Very cold with no words of sympathy offered. When we arrived to clear Mum's room, her name sign was even removed from the door whilst we were inside. Couldn't this have waited until after we left? No sympathy card was sent and no follow-up about her funeral. Sadly, as far as the management is concerned, Mum was merely a source of income, and when this was coming to an end, the manager displayed a complete lack of professionalism. A very sad end considering Mum had been resident there for almost 5 years.

Reply from Kirsty Janes, Director at Friars Lodge

Firstly, I would like to apologise that you have been left feeling this way. Our team take their responsibility very seriously & often go above & beyond. Our manager supported you when your mother was poorly. Unable to get through to the hospital & on holiday our manager, who was off duty and not on call, visited the hospital immediately to get you an update. We hoped our prior meeting with you had given you the chance to have your concerns acted upon, we apologise if we could have done more. We will review with the team who were on duty that, as this contact was not by Management. Our residents are never seen as simply income we are sorry you have been left feeling like this. We attempted to phone you to offer our condolences & ask about arrangements, the call was not answered, we assumed our contact was not wanted. We will follow this up with an email to ensure our message is received. We have now installed call recording to ensure our communications are able to be fully reviewed.

Friars Lodge staff were very kind and obliging towards my mum and us as a family. I would go as far as to say that went above and beyond in trying to care for and accommodate my mum during a very difficult time in her life. I would not hesitate in recommending any relative putting their loved one into
Friars Lodge as they will be safe and well looked after.

Mum has been resident in The White House for 1 year this month as she needs 24-hour care and supervision. We couldn't be happier with the care she is receiving. The management team are brilliant, between them and the seniors there isn't anything that can't be sorted. We are kept fully informed of what
happens with Mum, we get regular newsletters, phone calls and emails. They have been fully supportive of us personalising her room so she feels at home and comfy. The range of activities on offer is good, they even have an external art and craft company come in to do sessions! They have also been doing planting in the garden getting it summer-ready which she loved. Mum has been on outings, gone for walks and been to Church, they have singers come in and they put on a great family and friends Christmas get-together with the residents. The staff team at The White House are all really friendly and good at what they do, they genuinely care and understand Mum well and she's happy there.

My sister-in-law moved into Brookfield just over a month ago, she was adamant that she would never go into care but after having a stroke and not being safe on her own, she moved in. After a few days of her coming to terms with the move she is now very happy. The staff are wonderful, nothing is too
much trouble. We cannot fault her care. It is a very small home so the care she gets is outstanding, she did admit that she was lonely at home but now with all the fuss they make of her, she is very much at home.

Reply from Angie Duffy, Manager at Brookfield

My Mum arrived here 3 days before Covid lock down, so the last 3/4 years have been a difficult time for everyone. The Staff were most helpful in helping with phone calls during quarantine, despite her hearing loss. They continue to be understanding and compassionate as her health/dementia deteriorate.
They all seem like a happy team which adds to the positive atmosphere which we experience when we visit.

Thank you for leaving us a review. It was a privilege caring for your mum. The home was originally a rectory for the church, a children's home and now a care home. TLC is a continuous process which our decoration and maintenance work is an ongoing permanent job. We wish you all the best for the future.

My mum was on palliative care and bed bound. She had mixed levels of care, depending on who was working. She was on purée food but still given biscuits. She couldn't reposition herself in bed but was given a lidless cup. A little thought when dealing with her would have been helpful. Mum passed away
at the end of October. Staff were very kind to her in her final days. I think the shortcomings were due to lack of training and guidance for staff, especially new staff.

Mum was very well cared for in The White House. The staff were lovely, friendly and very caring. Whatever we asked or concerns we had were dealt with. The Christmas dinner you all did for us, so that Mum could have her family with her, was amazing and the staff worked very hard to achieve this. Mum
certainly enjoyed her day. We were kept up to speed with everything that concerned Mum. Thanks to all the staff that looked after us.

My mum has been at The White House Care Home for nearly two years and suffers from dementia and immobility.
The White House is small with a family feel.
The room is a good size with an ensuite and all Mum's personal things are around her.
The level of care, in my opinion, is of a high standard.
When
I visit I stay for two days, 10 am to 6 pm and I am with my mum the whole time, watching TV or in the lounge or dining with the other residents.
I, personally, very much enjoy my time there with my mum.
The staff are always ready to help, we have little birthday parties, family gatherings.
There are always activities being organised.
The management team are very good and they answer any questions that I have by return.
Picking a care home for your loved one is very stressful and emotional. I am just so pleased that we found The White House, it shone above the others and now I know my mum is happy, safe and secure.
For this, I will always be very grateful.

My mother has been a resident for three months and is happy, although she had been independent before going to Brookfield. The staff are very caring and nothing is too much trouble. It feels like home and most of the carers are locals and have worked there for years. Mum enjoys the homecooked meals
and is well looked after which is reflected in the residents who look out for each other. I highly recommend Brookfield.

from J W (Daughter of Resident) published on 18 October 2023
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

My mum was in Tudor House for a short period of 6 months, the staff were caring and looked after my mum well until she had to have continuing healthcare which then the home staff were not involved in her care, the one-to-one care she received was excellent.
However when my mum passed away as a family
we were disappointed that no staff members came to her funeral, no card was sent to offer their sympathy and we were told that some paperwork regarding continuing healthcare would be helped to fill out, which it never has been. When we went to collect her belongings 2 days after she had passed, there was a drinking glass/a jug in the room, iron had been placed in the room, tissues on the side, and no general cleaning or tidying had been done which was disappointing and upsetting at that time.

Reply from Lisa Walsh, Manager at Tudor House

Thank you for taking the time to review the home and the comments on how the staff were with Mum. I'm sorry how you felt about staff not coming to the funeral, I did send you an email on the day explaining that unfortunately we had staff sickness which meant that we needed to cover the floor and apologised and we were thinking of you and hoping everything went well. I apologise about how you felt about a sympathy card, I emailed you from all of us at the home saying we were all thinking of you and sent our condolences. The items in the bedroom we discussed and it was dealt with, and I'm sorry that the bedroom was like that, we discussed this through email. I apologise if you felt unsupported with the documents. All the best to you and your family.
