Anchorstone Nursing Home

from Andrew C (Son of Resident) published on 19 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother became a resident at the end of November 2022 after a hospital stay due to medical care needs that could no longer be provided at her home.
The nursing home is always clean and tidy and my mother, after a short period of adjustment, settled in and is happy and well cared for there.
The
staff are very welcoming and interact with my mother which keeps her socially active between visitors, this is very beneficial for her as she is not able to move around.

I have nothing but favourable things to say regarding Anchorstone and its staff. I live far, far away and consequently cannot visit as often as I may wish. The team always accommodate me when I am able to visit. The care, patience and attention they offer to residents never ceases to impress me. Being
completely honest, I recognise that I could never reach the standards they achieve in this regard. When I phone, I am always greeted in a welcoming manner with the current situation always clearly outlined to me. I am grateful to all.

Valerie's Residential Care Home

I'm happy to say that the care home and its staff are now very satisfactory. The differences since the new manager arrived have been quite remarkable, she seems to have energised the staff and started a lot of improvements to the home itself. There is still much to be done, but I feel confident that
with the right support, Valerie's could become a flagship home.

These people are the best carers I have ever encountered. My wife has been in a different Care Home and my mother was in another different Nursing Care Home so I speak from experience and the staff at Anchorstone far exceed the quality of care the other two provided (one of them has previously been
given a Care Home of The Year award). Above all my wife is very happy here. I was recently asked to give suggestions as to any improvements they could make and I couldn't think of any. They are also very good at keeping me informed about any changes in my Wife's condition which being Dementia unfortunately can only progress.

Thank you so much for the review. It is a privilege to provide care and support and we are so proud of the staff team. We may not boast of spiral staircases or posh chandeliers, but maintaining important relations with loved ones and compassionate care must be at the heart of all we do.

My mother has been a resident for approx 4 years at Anchorstone.
Whenever I visit she always looks well-presented and appears very settled and happy.
I feel that the staff interact extremely well with her. I'm aware my mother can be a little stubborn at times but from speaking with staff they do not
have any concerns with her management when delivering her care.
I cannot praise all the staff for the wonderful care that they deliver and as I live very far away so my visits are infrequent. I feel very reassured knowing my mother is happy within Anchorstone N/H in their very well-run home and they are very good at maintaining communication with me.

My 95 year old mother was admitted to Anchorstone from hospital under the delirium pathway after five weeks in hospital following a fall where she broke her ankle. Previously, she was well and living independently. She was very confused and unwell on arrival after poor hospital treatment. She was hardly
eating or mobile. The staff worked very hard to support Mum in her recovery. The staff are unfailingly positive and kind; they know all the residents well. They are welcoming to visitors and were very happy to discuss how Mum was doing, encouraging her to build on her slow but daily progress. The staff are very ably led by the manager and her deputy. Mum had nothing but praise for the staff throughout her stay and her delirium (post-trauma confusion) is resolving well. I am sure that this would not be the case if it had not been for the dedication and kindness of the staff. Mum has now been able to move to a non-dementia care home because of the great care she received at Anchorstone.

Anchorstone Nursing Home

My father came into Anchorstone Nursing Home from another home he had gone into for respite and soon after entering Anchorstone he fell and broke his hip. After weeks in hospital, he returned to the home and was put onto end-of-life care and he passed away peacefully at the beginning of May this year.
Dad was well looked after and settled despite his condition and his constant anguish over his wife who is on end-of-life care also. The staff were always welcoming and friendly and we were very happy that he was being looked after as well as we could expect. Yes, the home is a tad shabby and a bit sad-looking and obviously needs attention but this was unimportant over the care he received and when he passed away the staff were lovely and quite touched by his death. Two months later, on the date of his funeral, they requested £44 for a haircut. Dad was under DOLS and I was his next of kin and contact but my permission was not sought or given and this has been quite upsetting.

Reply from Paul Mason, Operations Manager at Anchorstone Nursing Home

We are so sorry about the passing of your father. Thank you for your positive comments about the staff and the care provided. Regrettably, bills have to be paid and it was always considered in your father's best interest that he had haircuts to maintain his dignity and grooming. This was the price of two cuts which were as per the invoice sent £29. We kindly request this from the estate. These issues are never easy and apologies if you feel the timing insensitive. I do note your alleged refusal to pay.

Anchorstone Nursing Home

My father has been a resident in Anchorstone since December 2021. He has advanced dementia/Alzheimer's. The staff are all very caring and each time I visit he seems very well cared for. One reason I selected Anchorstone is its homely atmosphere, unlike some of the purpose built (and expensive) homes
that are quite clinical in atmosphere. The communal areas with lounge and conservatory are very pleasant. I would definitely recommend Anchorstone to any prospective residents.

The home is very clean and all staff are very friendly and approachable. They spend time with the residents and are very understanding of their needs. I am very pleased with the good results that have been achieved with my father in a short period of time and he has settled in very well. Bearing in
mind he had not prior to being moved to this home, made any progress. It is remarkable what they have achieved since 17th July especially getting my father to eat, which had prior to his admittance, been impossible. A big thank you to all concerned.

Mum has been living in Anchorstone since October 2022 and my sister and I are so pleased with the level of care that Mum is receiving. We really do find all of the staff to be so helpful, caring and loving. Under the guidance of the manager, we couldn't be happier with how the team treat Mum.
The open
approach that the manager and the team have is really appreciated. The regular meetings and 1:1 reviews really do help to provide a high level of reassurance. The team are always so positive and cheerful and we feel that this environment helps both Mum and the other residents cope as best they can with their situations.
We really are very pleased that Mum is in Anchorstone and are so grateful for the care that she is getting.

My mum has Alzheimer's disease and has been living at Anchorstone Nursing Home since November 2022. I've found the care that my mum receives to be of a very high standard. All the staff I have seen at Anchorstone show a caring attitude and they all seem to understand the range of complex needs that
people with dementia live with. I've particularly noticed how great the staff are at reassuring and comforting mum and other residents when they show signs of anxiety. There are lots of activities for residents to engage in if they're able to and I find the living environment to be warm and friendly. The management team are extremely pro-active about arranging meetings with relatives and keeping us connected with everything that is going on. I'm grateful that mum is living at Anchorstone

Thank you so much for the review. We strive for continuous improvement and management and staff welcome the opportunity to meet with family, both formally and informally. Staff are trained in supporting those who may have memory impairment in addition to staff natural attributes, in both caring and empathy which must be 'hallmarks' during our recruitment.

My mum has been with Anchorstone for two and a half years now and when she first arrived she would not get out of bed, now they have encouraged her to get up and become involved with the activities which is hard when you have dementia. All the team care for their residents and the results are amazing.

Awful experience, that ruined my mum's life and gave her no duty of care. My mum can no longer walk without help, She had to have a hip replacement, she got DVT. Also, the home is grubby with very steep ramps that are difficult to walk up, even for able-bodied people.

Reply from P Mason, Operations Manager at Anchorstone Nursing Home

In February 2023, a resident was admitted to Anchorstone with delirium pathway. She suffered confusion and on one occasion reached out to another resident who is not able to stand up. Regrettably, both of them ended up on the floor and one suffered a skin tear on the leg. Our nurses kept a close eye on the wound and also refered her to TVN for further assessment as the resident was not settled and not willing to rest the legs. This affected the wound. We informed GP, CMHT and DN. All actions are recorded. TVN was not able to come for assessment due to a car accident. However, our local DN assisted with wound care. Since moving from Anchorstone, it is unfortunate to hear of the inability to mobilise and requiring a hip operation. It must be noted that the accident/incident requiring hip operation/replacement happened after moving away from Anchorstone.
Our resident was at the home for a trial period which was not extended. Our staff provide excellent care and this is recorded by CQC this year.

Crossways is a very friendly nursing home. Mum has been there very nearly 10 years. The staff treat her with respect and kindness, although now bedridden, staff take the time with her. Her face lights up when she sees them. The home is always clean with no funny smells! Well done Crossways. You should
be praised.

My father suffers from severe Vascular Dementia and has been a resident at Anchorstone since April 2016.
The skilled and loving care he has received there has been exemplary. The staff have a very real understanding of Dementia and the effect this condition has on individuals and their families. They
manage to alleviate the anxiety which is an integral part of the condition and ensure that residents feel safe and secure. The Care Manager has specialist training in Dementia and ensures that this knowledge is passed on to all her staff.

I cannot thank the staff at Anchorstone enough for the way they have looked after my father.

Therefore as the daughter of a resident, I highly recommend Anchorstone Nursing Home.
