Lauder Lodge

My mother is well cared for, and I feel that she is very safe in Lauder Lodge. Staff will keep us updated if she falls or is unwell. The staff are very kind and caring towards her, and she likes them very much. It has been difficult for her to move from her own home to the care home, and she is still
not completely settled. The rooms are very small.
Her mobility has deteriorated since moving there, she spends a lot of time sitting in a chair despite the staff encouraging her to move. Hopefully, when the weather gets better, she will be able to enjoy the garden and terrace and feel more at home. I feel that the food in the home, while delicious, could be more balanced with more salads, fruit and greens. She has put on weight, and her diabetes, which was in remission and was managed through diet for 20 years, has now become an issue, and she requires medication. I'm sure the kitchen would accommodate any requests from her, but she doesn't ask. A lower sugar menu and healthier snacks would be good to see

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Lauder Lodge

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful review. We're so glad to hear that your mother feels well cared for and safe at Lauder Lodge. Our team takes great pride in offering compassionate care and staying in close communication with families, so we’re happy to know you feel informed and supported.
We understand that transitioning into a care home can be a challenging experience, and it’s wonderful to hear that your mother is gradually developing positive relationships with our staff. We know it can take time to settle in, and we’re here to support her through this process.
We also appreciate your feedback regarding the room size and your mother's mobility. We strive to offer an environment that promotes comfort, and we are hopeful that the upcoming warmer weather will encourage her to enjoy our outdoor spaces more. Your insight is invaluable, and we will continue to encourage her mobility and well-being.
Regarding the food, we take your concerns seriously. We do our best to offer balanced meals and will certainly take your feedback on board. We'll ensure that there are more options for fruit, salads, and greens and explore creating a lower-sugar menu with healthier snack choices. Our kitchen team is always happy to accommodate specific dietary requests, and we encourage residents to let us know how we can best support their needs.
Once again, thank you for your kind words and constructive feedback. We're committed to providing the best possible care for your mother and will continue to work hard to ensure she feels comfortable and supported in her new home. Best wishes.

Review of

Lauder Lodge

from Elaine B (Daughter of Resident) published on 14 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Overall very good, in particular the nursing care. What could be improved is the time my mum sometimes has to wait for assistance after she presses her call button. This can cause frustration, particularly if she needs to go to the bathroom, as she doesn't want to have an accident. This has led to her
trying to go to the bathroom unaided and as a result she's fallen on more than one occasion. This is a safety concern.
Another issue is the food, it's often quite high fat and I'd like to see more healthy options e.g. fruit, veg, salad. My mum's type 2 diabetes has returned since she's been in the home as she's eating far more sugar.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Lauder Lodge

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for Lauder Lodge and sharing your feedback with us. We are pleased to hear that your mum is receiving good nursing care, and we truly appreciate your recognition of our team's efforts.
We are sorry to hear about the delays in response times when your mum presses her call button, and we understand how this can be frustrating, especially when she needs assistance with using the bathroom. Safety is a top priority for us, and we are concerned about the falls that have occurred as a result. Please be assured that we will review this matter with our team to improve response times and ensure your mum's safety and comfort are better supported.
Additionally, we appreciate your comments about the food. We understand the importance of a balanced diet, especially for managing diabetes, and we take your concerns about the sugar and fat content seriously. We will review the menu and explore healthier options, including more fruits, vegetables, and salads, to better accommodate dietary needs, as we do have a balanced and nutritional menu with healthy snacks available. Could you perhaps state that meals and snacks will be reviewed with the care team to actively encourage healthier options.
Your feedback is invaluable in helping us make necessary improvements, and we are committed to ensuring that your mum's care experience is as positive and safe as possible. If you have any further concerns or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out. Best wishes.

My dad aged 90 after a 3-month stay in hospital was admitted to Murrayside.
I have been delighted with his care. He appears to be settling in well.
All staff from administration, housekeeping, maintenance, nursing and carers have made us all feel welcome.
His care is person-centred and exemplary.
Nothing is too much trouble for the staff.
We now enjoy quality time, and he is safe and well-looked after.
I would highly recommend Murrayside.

Management and care staff are very pleasant and helpful. From day one, seemingly cordial and cooperative with one another. There are many appreciative comments about catering and quality of food.
My one query was - until today - was it really necessary to communicate everything through our first contact
with a specific manager (who gained our appreciation and trust) rather than go directly to the relevant floor manager. It seemed, perhaps, to add to unnecessary communication stresses for those involved, though I was never given to feel that. Congratulations! Today, I know that as from January 2025, certain tasks will change.
Thank you for the sense of welcome extended each day in Lauder Lodge.

Murrayside

from S D (Daughter of Resident) published on 30 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mum moved to Murrayside after years of being 100% sure she never wanted to go into a care home. Mum realised, however, that the time had come when she couldn't cope at home herself any more and daycare support here and there just wasn't enough.
That she settled so quickly and has at no time had
any desire to return home is a testament to the fantastic job the staff at Murrayside have done in helping Mum settle. It has been seamless. She is happy and relaxed (with the angst of living alone with dementia having left her face), is fitter and is so enjoying the company and varied activities as well as the support of the professional, caring and fun staff. She is loving having lots of new pals who are in the same boat as she is. When I visit Mum, she loves to go upstairs to the coffee shop. It is a joy to see her happy again and feeling safe and without worries.
I just attended a review today of her first few weeks, and could fault nothing!

My sister moved into Murrayside Care Home on November 18th 2024. Her 3 daughters organised the move, they are my nieces. We all live in the area. The actual move happened quickly after our decision that a move for safety and care was needed. We had an orientation visit along with my sister and by ourselves.
On the visit with my sister, while admiring the facility suddenly realized that it was "her" who would be there, she protested, staff and manager coped with this well helping us as a family too with her anger towards her daughters. One month on, now my sister has settled well, joined in activities and making friends. We are free to visit. So far so good. She is happy and safe.

Cairdean House

from Fiona R (Daughter of Resident) published on 7 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

When I first visited Cairdean House with my mother in October, we were immediately impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the atmosphere of the home. As there was a room available that was suitable for her, the move in process was quick and straightforward.
Since moving in, she has settled
in well. She loves all the staff and has become friendly with several of the residents. She hadn't been able to go out very much in the last couple of years and was very lonely. She seems much happier now.
There was a minor issue with the food. She complained about the quality and the portion size. When it was brought to the staff's attention, they dealt with it quickly. She now seems to have fewer complaints about the food.
I can't fault the cleanliness of the home. Everything is always spotless and very tidy.
The most important thing to me is that I know my mum is comfortable, safe and being well looked after.

I recently visited Lauder Lodge with my friend to see her lovely Dad. As soon as I stepped into the building, I could feel the warmth and love. We were immediately greeted, my friend by name, at reception. Every member of staff we saw on the way met us with a smile and friendly greeting - many stopping
to ask my friend how she was. The building was cosy and clean and the ethos was enabling and positive. I was very impressed by the cafe, a lovely place to spend time with family. Lauder Lodge, and their wonderful, hard-working staff, are a credit to the company. I have told my family to book my room now!

Any time I have visited I felt very much at home and staff members have been extremely friendly. The rooms are bright and en-suites are roomy. The botanic garden cafe is very popular and a beautiful place to relax with a resident. The standard of food is excellent.
The dining rooms are small and not
too noisy. The activity room looks interesting and the residents seem to enjoy the gatherings there.
As a visitor, I think the cinema is a huge bonus to have on site and the standard of technology is of a very high standard.
Having seen trolleys of laundry being returned to the rooms, it is beautifully folded and ironed.
As far as I can see, all the residents are very content and happy.

Cairdean House

from S W (Son of Resident) published on 17 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother is a new resident at Cairdean House.
As someone who has always been protective of her privacy and independence, it was not an easy move for her to make.
The sensitivity and understanding of the Cairdean staff - both management and care staff - was instrumental in reassuring my mother and
myself that the move was the right one. This included a 2 week trial stay.
On moving permanently, mum was initially unhappy with the noise near her newly allocated room. When this was raised, she was moved to a new room. This was done promptly and readily by Cairdean management recognising an opportunity to show my mother that her comfort was paramount.
Since my mother has become a resident at Cairdean, I see her building new relationships with staff and residents, growing in confidence in her new environment that is empowering and stimulating for her - which is wonderful to see.

Murrayside Care Home has been exemplary in their care for my relative. After living at home with dementia for five years, a recent hospital visit highlighted the need for full-time care. From the moment I first met the staff at Murrayside, the care and support provided have been outstanding. Despite
initially being reluctant to move into a care home, my relative has settled in very well. During our most recent visit, we were delighted to see her happier than she has been in a long time. Knowing she is safe is reassuring, but seeing her genuinely happy means so much more. I am deeply grateful for the exceptional care and compassion shown by everyone at Murrayside.

My dad has been a resident at Lauder Lodge for 18 months. He is very settled in their care. His physical and emotional care is of a very high standard and staff are always responsive to any concerns or requests that we make. Although social activities cater in the main for the majority female resident
group, there has been an excellent outing for some gentlemen residents to a golf driving range which Dad greatly enjoyed.
Without exception, Dad is treated with courtesy and care by all carers. E.g. whenever he returns to his room from an outing or visits the cafe, he is greeted warmly with a "Welcome back!"
Lauder Lodge is a lovely, well-maintained building. Dad's room has all he needs. Most importantly, he feels safe in their care and we all appreciate that immensely.

Sadly they don't accept authority funding: have a lawyer read over the contract! Care UK was taken to task in England about this but haven't had their knuckles wrapped by the Scottish Authorities yet. They don't offer any more than basic care for dementia despite promises on the website and published
info. Lots of lovely promises on admission to the home that never come to pass once money is handed over. Some staff are wonderful, others need consistent supervision by the floor managers: the same as any nursing home out there, but it looks pretty. It's a business and the management runs it like one. they will try to move your relative out of the home when their health declines, keep this in mind if you are wanting a lifelong place for them to live. After chatting to other relatives we are all having similar issues.
