Nursing home is well decorated and looks very inviting outside and in. Some lovely, cheery events for staff, residents and visitors. Good atmosphere throughout the day, uplifting. Food is excellent. Staff could not have worked harder. Great teamwork. Reception very welcoming, always enquiring about
the wellbeing of your loved one. Mr and Mrs Claus visiting individuals on Christmas Day was lovely.

My mam was in The Terrace, all the staff were caring and understanding. There's always some form of activity going on. The home had a family feel to it.
Sadly my mam passed away in the home and the staff were very supportive.
I made some friends there which I still come to visit.

My grandpa has been at Harcourt Gardens for nearly 6 months now. As a family, we have been so impressed and are so happy with his care. The staff are lovely, we always feel so welcome when we come to visit too (the lady on reception is just so lovely to my children who love visiting their great grandpa
and now walk round the place like they own it!) The facilities are great, it is so warm and my grandpa raves about the food. We have just been so pleased with moving our grandpa here and cannot recommend it enough.

An impressive imposing structure converted from a former chocolate factory. Accommodation of a very high standard with spacious dining area, lounge and bedrooms supported by appropriate facilities. Staff well trained in house, cope with specific problems and demonstrate a high level of empathy with
residents. Be assured residents in very safe hands.

My mother entered Harcourt Gardens in September 2024. We are very happy with the care she is receiving and the positive, happy environment she has joined. The staff are very enthusiastic and charming with my mother. They have gone out of their way to encourage her to take part in group activities. We
feel assured she is in safe hands.

Dad was so well looked after at The Terrace. The staff were so wonderful with him and understood what made him happy, and what didn't, so were able to make his stay as good as it could have been. It's such a welcoming place for family to visit, and were happy to cater for my mum, sister and myself so
we could have meals together with dad, which was always a special family time throughout our lives. The food is of a very high standard, which again made Dad happy. I highly recommend The Terrace.

From entering Harcourt Gardens, residents and visitors are met in a friendly, professional manner on a personal note, from reception onwards. The sense of life, activity and social interaction between visitors, staff and residents is beneficial and excellent promotion of Harcourt ethos.

My Grandpa has been a resident for a few months and he has settled well and is very happy. He has significant physical difficulties (not cognitive) and enjoys the company of the staff and other residents. He has a lovely room that overlooks the garden and enjoys the meals in the dining room which is
always set up like a restaurant. He has put on weight since he moved there, and the food is so good! The staff are attentive and have made an effort to get to know him. I think he notices a difference when they have agency staff, which I know in a care setting can be difficult to avoid. The front staff are welcoming (the children love visiting their great-grandpa as there are always treats and activities for them to do)!

The Well-being coordinator is fab and organises some lovely events trying to involve all residents and families, even if they can't physically attend. I'd recommend Harcourt Gardens, it feels more like a small community than a Nursing or Residential Home!

Harcourt Gardens

from Debbie H (Respite Resident) published on 24 October 2024

I was recommended Harcourt Gardens for respite care following a knee replacement.
It is without a doubt fantastic.
The residents are lovely, friendly, and welcoming, with every need catered for, there is so much to do, so many events/entertainments, equally there are many different areas to sit be
peaceful or chat, the roof terrace is beautiful, as are the gardens.
The staff certainly go that extra mile and are so very helpful and considerate. All the buildings including the bedrooms are very clean and personalisation of your room is encouraged.
There are 3 full meals each day of the highest quality, served at dining tables, so everyone can have a chat.
I wondered if I was doing the right thing, having respite care, but I'm so glad I came, and I will be so sorry to leave.
Absolutely recommend.

The staff are very helpful and the Wellbeing staff work hard to give enjoyable experiences. Beautiful surroundings,

My partner has advanced Alzheimer's disease. She has lost all mobility, can only say the odd word and requires 24 hour bed-nursing. She is given the highest quality of care and with such sensitivity to her needs.
I know she could not get better quality of care and emotional support. It is a huge
comfort to me - and to us both - to know she is in a care home that is so wonderful.

Review of

Harcourt Gardens

from Adrian P (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 4 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

Harcourt Gardens in Harrogate has been deeply disappointing. Our experience was marked by serious concerns regarding medication management and an overall lack of attention to both the physical and emotional well-being of residents. This neglect significantly increased health risks for our mother, causing
her unnecessary distress when she should have been cared for in a safe and supportive environment.
The high turnover of staff has resulted in a lack of continuity and familiarity with residents' needs. Management has been unresponsive and unhelpful, leaving us feeling ignored and anxious about our mother's care.
As a result, we had to move our mother to another care home in Harrogate. This caused her further distress and anxiety.
We would not recommend Harcourt Gardens to anyone.

Do not make the mistake of choosing this care home for dementia care.
The biggest challenge was staffing and a lack of continuity, there was and continues to be a huge turnover in staff in every area from care staff to hospitality, well-being and even management, in just a 6 month period there have
been 3 different home managers. Agency staff are used on a regular basis and there are frequent staff shortages.
Person-centered dementia care is advertised but this really wasn't the case in our experience. The residents on the dementia floor are often left and rarely get to go outside or leave the floor as there are never enough staff to take them out anywhere.
On admission, we were assured by the manager at the time that the home would cater for all of mum's future needs as nursing care was about to be introduced. Yet despite this mum was given notice to leave and told that her needs could not be met, with very poor communication about the reasons and no support offered from management.

Harcourt Gardens

from Alison W (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 September 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

I would definitely recommend Harcourt Gardens for residential care as the grounds, room sizes and decor are akin to what you would expect from a luxury hotel. In my experience however, the dementia residents on the 1st floor are very much disadvantaged by not having any regular outdoor access to the
grounds or rooftop garden on the 2nd floor in summer due to a shortage of carers. There are no staff working between floors and there are no regular trips outdoors either which is a great shame. The care provided is good but staff shortages limit the opportunity for residents to make full use of the available facilities, such as the cinema room in the basement, which was always empty whenever I visited. Also, the nursing care provided does not include specialist dementia care, which was not apparent to us when we chose Harcourt for residential care to start with. In summary, Harcourt Gardens is a lovely place and is full of lovely people but caters best for residential care.
