Aarandale Manor

from Paul S (Son of Resident) published on 21 February 2025

My mum has been at this care home for two years now and I feel that, as a very regular visitor, I am in an excellent position to provide potential residents and their families with a realistic view of the care that Aarandale has provided and continues to provide to my mother.
Every single member of
staff that I have come into contact with has been extremely caring above and beyond what you would reasonably expect. I love my mother dearly and was her sole carer for over five years. She is my only remaining relative and I love her dearly. The care my mother receives is truly exceptional and it feels like I am leaving her with family when I go to my own home. When I take Mum back to the care home, the staff are really pleased to see her and she is thriving there.
Whilst all the staff have been absolutely wonderful to my mother, a few do deserve special mention, three ladies in particular and a very special Scottish nurse, who actually made me cry with the kindness she showed my mother.

The care given to my mother by the staff is exceptional. They treat my mother with love and empathy in what is sometimes a challenging environment. They listen to any concerns or worries that I express in relation to my mother's health and well-being and go the extra mile to help.

My Grandma has been a resident at Aarandale Manor for many years.
The care is exceptional, the staff and manager are always super friendly, and approachable. It has that great family feel and there is no other care home that we would want her to live in.
I would always praise and highly recommend
Aarandale Manor to anyone needing this service.

I cannot praise the care and attention given to my husband during the 2 plus years he was in Aarandale Manor. The senior staff and carers showed excellent respect to him at all times and their care for him couldn't be better. At the end of his life, the dignity that was given to him was outstanding.
As a daily visitor to my husband, the staff were always most respectful and kept me updated on his condition. I would never hesitate to recommend Aarandale Manor to anyone. Well done to everyone involved in my husband's care, particularly his end-of-life care.

My family and I have been surprised with the friendly, kind and excellent service provided by all the staff and management. I am well aware of the personal needs I have to keep to a strict vegetarian and selective fish menu and again they are extremely helpful. All this including the personal help given
to me makes for absolute satisfaction.

This is the third care home where Mum has been placed. The first one no-one bothered to know Mum and she became depressed. The second one the care was good but the cleanliness was extremely poor and was not adequate for her needs. At Aarandale Manor everything is what she needs. The carers are sympathetic
and nice. She is really happy here and for the first time, I saw her smile. I strongly recommend Aarandal and I'm happy to be of any assistance. She has been here for nearly a year.

Due to a broken arm and other medical conditions, I needed respite care. As I came from the hospital the nurses were excellent for changing my dressing and removing sutures. They have an activities manager and he arranges interesting outings. The food was good and their omelettes were delicious. I have
no hesitation in recommending this home for their professional care.

I've been here for seven months, I have found that I feel better in myself. Staff have helped me to bring my sanity back. I feel that once I have a prosthetic leg, I will be good to go home. The new manager is very understanding and helpful. She is one of the only people in charge I have found it's
easy to talk to.

My amazing mum has been a resident here for the last 11 years.
We have a great team of nurses, carers and managers.
I visit Mum daily and participate in her care, and they work as a team with me!
I have no issues with the home, and to be honest, some carers are incredible!
Mum being here has enabled
me to continue working and get quality time with Mum as well. Food is always good with great choices and when Mum was eating solid food, I used to join her for a lovely Sunday roast lunch! And for only £1.00!
Mum is 97 now and on a puree diet, but they cater for her with no problem!

If you really care about your loved ones please do not send them here, my mum was a resident there for a few weeks and I can honestly say, that the home was filthy dirty, you wipe your feet on the way out.
They had mice in residents' rooms, the food was like slop and the majority of the staff were
rude, the residents were not properly cared for, minimal activities, residents spent most of the time in their rooms like prisoners.
Even Social Services were aware of the mice being in the home back in October 2023.
I am so glad I moved my mum out of here.

Reply from Madalina Ilie, Home Manager at Barleycroft Care Home

I am sorry to hear you had a negative experience with our home, September 2023. Since then, we have a new management team in place that have implemented positive changes in the home. In October 2023 we have applied many prevention and improvement measures to resolve this problem that was due to major building works surrounding Barleycroft which resulted in underground nests being disturbed also impacting the local community. We have a positive dining experience with fresh food prepared daily by our chefs who cater for individual specific dietary requirements. Recently been inspected by EHO maintaining the 5*rating as well as IPC achieving 93% which indicates very good hygiene achievement across the home. We have a good diverse care team at Barleycroft who are consistent and therefore ensure high standards of care to all our residents. All our activities planner is made with our residents taking into consideration everyone's wishes and medical condition. I hope Mum settled well in the new home.

I want to say a huge thank you to all the carers and managers at Aarandale who are doing such a brilliant job of looking after my dad. I cannot tell you how happy I am with the way in which dad is being cared for, looked after and respected, despite his illness. They all do such an amazing job and it
is such a delight each time I go to visit him, to see him smiling and getting along with everyone. I am also amazed at how much he is talking to different people because before he came to Aarandale he wasn't saying very much at all. As much as it was an extremely difficult decision to make to move him out of his flat into the home, I knew it was the right thing to do, and seeing him now, has just proved that. Thank you all so much.

My mother has been at Manor Farm Care for 3 years and she had a really bad experience at a previous home. When she moved to Manor Farm, her life change was complete, she was happier than before and Mum feels more secure in all aspects. The management and staff are brilliant there, I had experienced
it in the past but I couldn't believe it. Mum now has dementia and has many complex needs, but even then she has been treated with so much care, kindness and generosity of spirit. This is a testament to all staff from management, nursing, catering and reception, that my mum is still here. Thanks.

My father-in-law was admitted to Manor Farm Care Home on Friday the 24th of May at 5:30 pm. Sadly he had a very restless night and passed away in the early hours of Saturday the 25th of May despite all of the efforts of the staff and ambulance service. He was 99 years old! So although he did not experience
the life he would have had at Manor Farm, I wanted to complete this review as my son and I were so impressed with the staff, care and management. His room, the dining area and the residents' lounge were perfect. So, thank you everyone and I'm only sorry that he did not get to experience it himself. He would have loved it and we know he would have been cared for by those amazing staff. Thank you!
