My Dad was a resident at Otterbourne Court for three years. Whilst there he received excellent care from all the staff. I was always kept well informed of any health issues by the nursing staff and I got great peace of mind knowing that the doctor would see him if necessary. This is really important
when you don't live locally. Dad engaged with a wide range of activities and trips whilst there and this meant that he lived a good quality of life until nearly the end. When Dad came to the end of his life I was really touched by the way it wasn't just him that was cared for, but we were all cared for as we watched and waited - this was unexpected and much appreciated. I will miss coming into the home for visits - a lot of the staff have remained the same in the three years Dad was a resident.

My Aunt was wonderfully cared for during what proved to be the last months of her life. She had vascular dementia, worsened by a recent a stroke, but was still very much herself. She joined Brendoncare Alton after a less than ideal experience at a home elsewhere. From our first visit and the warm welcome
at Reception we could tell the atmosphere was very caring and positive. The Assistant Manager was excellent, explaining how everything works. The admin office was also marvelous and patient at sorting out the admission, contract, billing etc. We visited often and were impressed each time by the senior medical staff and the care team who were all kind, thoughtful, calm and cheerful (something I'd rarely seen before). They very quickly got to know my aunt and her needs. The local GP support was also excellent.
We were happy that she was so content and well cared for and I can't recommend this home and its team highly enough.

Dad was reluctant to go into a home but after 2 weeks of respite care, in Brendoncare Alton, he was more than happy to stay. He is looking healthier and happier and is very pleased with the way all the staff look after him. When I visit him, the staff that I meet are all polite and helpful and happy.

We used Brendoncare Stildon for two weeks respite after a hospital stay for Mum. We found the home ourselves as the ones that had come recommended from the hospital team were not suitable. The staff were very welcoming and Mum was made to feel comfortable. The room was en-suite and spacious, clean and
warm. Staff were friendly, meals delicious and lots of choices, activities every day if Mum wished to participate. Although it was only a short stay, I would not hesitate to use the home again.

There was no question of which local care home to choose for my stepfather as staff at Brendoncare Stildon had lovingly cared for my wife's mother, father and aunt. At least eleven of the staff from seven or more years ago are still there! Excellent evidence of a happy place. The staff cared for my
stepfather wonderfully well and enabled him to enjoy his 101st birthday!

Reply from Maria Thomas, Administrator at Brendoncare Stildon

Thank you for this beautiful review, it was a pleasure to care for your stepfather and an honour to have been involved with so many of your family members. We are very proud of our colleague retention and I'm sure that you were all happy to see such familiar faces at a difficult time. I feel my mother is safe and well cared for. She is warm and has access to all she needs - even if she doesn't use the TV!
Her room is comfy, thought the wardrobe has a rather dilapidated air. Otherwise it is hard to know what more you could be doing to help her.

Mum came to Brendoncare Stildon in November 2023 at the age of 96, after a three-month stay in hospital. The care, consideration and love shown to my mum and to me and my family has been outstanding. All the staff, the cleaners, maintenance, reception, cooks, activity coordinators and managers, are
all so friendly and caring and Mum feels so at home there. As time has gone on, Mum is not so able to join in as much as she did but the staff always check in on her frequently and stop for a chat, they go above and beyond. My sister and I and all the family are so pleased that we found Brendoncare Stildon and would definitely highly recommend them.

My father moved into one of the supported Mews flats just over two years ago. The flat was light and airy, with everything he needed to be self-sufficient while providing the confidence that help would be available if ever needed. From that start, all the staff were welcoming and attentive and Dad immediately
felt at home in this happy and caring environment.
Recently, after a short stay in hospital resulting in a terminal prognosis, the admin staff went out of their way to facilitate his discharge back to a palliative care room at Brendoncare Stildon. Dad was so pleased to be able to return to the place where he felt so loved and cared for and the nursing staff were superb in ensuring he remained comfortable and peaceful in his final days. I cannot thank everyone enough for their professionalism, kindness and concern - both for Dad and for the family - throughout this period and would not hesitate to recommend Stildon.

Reply from Louisa White, Deputy Manager at Brendoncare Stildon

A huge thank you for the wonderful care given to my husband during a short stay for palliative care, weekend 23rd to 27th August 2024. He was cared for by a team of kind day and night nurses, until he died on the 27th. I and my family were dealt with love and dignity from all other members of the staff

Having viewed several nursing homes, we chose Stildon for my Mum as the staff we met were friendly and helpful, the room on offer was bright and clean, and the services and facilities seemed ideal. My, 100-year-old, Mum has been there for almost a year now and I have had no cause to regret the decision.
The staff are cheerful, efficient and helpful. Mum's room is kept clean and we were able to personalise it with some of her possessions. She has food intolerances and difficulty eating but the chef has gone out of his way to tailor her menu to her needs. They arrange regular activities and entertainment which residents are encouraged, but not pressured, to join in with. All in all, I have no hesitation in recommending Stildon to anybody seeking a nursing or care home.

Reply from Louisa White, Deputy Manager at Brendoncare Stildon

Thank you for your lovely review, it is a pleasure to have your mum here at Stildon and we always look forward to our little chats in the morning while delivering her newspaper. Your mum is very lucky to have such a caring son and we always appreciate your support of her care.

My husband was transferred from hospital to Brendoncare Froxfield as he had specified that he didn't want to pass away in hospital. I am so grateful to them for accepting him. Unfortunately, I had a particularly bad cold and I didn't want to take my germs into the home so I wasn't able to visit on the
Friday night. The manager kept me informed about his condition on Friday and by Saturday morning, I received a call from the most amazing senior nurse who informed me that his condition had deteriorated significantly and that I needed to be there. My parents went in first as they were closer and I arrived shortly after. The whole team were absolutely fantastic during his last few hours, treating him and my family and me with dignity, respect and genuine kindness. My heartfelt thanks to the senior nurse, the manager and the team for making his passing pain-free and peaceful. Not only did they care for my husband, they looked after me and my family in the aftermath. Thank you all!

Brendoncare Stildon

from A G (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

My dad was placed in this care home for end-of-life care. He was awarded CHC funding. My dad had already arrived at the care home and for some reason the funding was 'pending'. On arrival, the admin was very officious, uncaring and rude and demanded I pay £11,000 for the first month (I think) of care
and wanted to know details of how much Dad's home was worth. As you can imagine, this was very stressful on top of what I was dealing with. My dad was dying. I was heartbroken and she only cared about this payment and gave me a deadline for paying it. Lucky for me, the district nurse just happened to be visiting and she summoned the management who sorted it out. From that day on, the admin did not speak to me or acknowledge me. I had to walk past her office daily to get to my dad's room.
The care my dad received was excellent, the staff were very very kind and supported me too. The manager did help with the admin situation and could not have been more lovely.

Reply from Annie Burisky, General Manager at Brendoncare Stildon

I am so sorry your experience with our administrator was not as it should be and didn't meet the high expectations of the home at this very difficult time for you. I am glad that you felt I managed the situation in a positive way. I am delighted that you felt our end of life care was excellent. Your father was an absolute gentleman. I hope you can move on from this initial negative experience, I wish you peace at this time.

Our dad lives in the Brendoncare Mary Rose Mews and manages to live as independently as possible because of the wonderful support he is given from the Bendoncare staff.
They provide meals in his flat, do regular medication visits and also provide a carer escort service to medical appointments.

When our dad was unwell and unable to care for himself in the summer, Brendoncare Mary Rose Mews was happy to offer respite care. Within a couple of hours, they had arranged a room for him and he had transitioned smoothly into their care - despite it being a Sunday.
They arranged regular visits from
the GP and provided great nursing care. They were flexible with the length of his stay, reviewing it week by week. As his health improved, he was given more independence and when he was ready to move back home, they assessed him in his flat and helped him to transition back.
We were very happy with the care from Brendoncare and thoroughly recommend them.

Thank you so much for a lovely review. It is great to hear how the staff are presented in such a way you and your parents feel at ease here with us. I will ensure this is passed on to the team to recognise their professionalism.
