From the moment I first visited Milkwood 6 months ago, to assess it for my brother's care, I felt that he and I were among friends. The staff took time to talk about my brother's situation, show me round the home and introduce me to the team (not always true in other establishments I visited !) and
when I explained that I was due to see half a dozen more homes I was assured: "You will know when you've found the right one."
I left knowing that I had.
My brother is comfortable and well cared for. He likes his own space and the staff understand and respect that but keep an unobtrusive eye on his needs nonetheless. They are patient and caring and appear to totally get his sense of humour.
And Christmas lunch was 5-star !!

Mum has been in Milkwood House for 14months now and settled in well from day one. She has a lovely cosy room, with a few of her things from home. She is always encouraged to spend all her time in the lounge- I really value this, as she always has company, even if she is not able to chat much, it means
there is always something going on to observe. The separate dining room with tables of 4, all laid out like a restaurant table makes residents' meal times special. Staff are very friendly to her.

Reply from Jack Newman, Registered Manager at Milkwood House Care Home

Thank you for your lovely review - we like to make our mealtimes as close to a restaurant as possible with staff sat with them to encourage food intake. I will pass on your lovely feedback to the staff.

Milkwood House Care Home

from James s (Son of Resident) published on 1 April 2025

My mum arrived at Milkwood House in late January. For the previous three years she had lived alone in sheltered accommodation.
She had become very bored and depressed in her flat, really retreating into her shell.
She had broken her wrist at Christmas and following a spell in hospital and respite
care we decided that she required more care and support than she had been getting.
Milkwood was one of three homes we were recommended to. Just reading the reviews showed Milkwood as being the outstanding one by a country mile.
I turned up and was shown around by a member of staff and it was immediately clear that she loved her job. She explained that residents are referred to as family. 'We are all family here'.
Since Mum arrived it has been like night and day. We have not seen her this happy for about the last five years. She is getting involved in activities often with a wonderful member off staff and is regularly on their Facebook page!
Thank You to the manager and the team. Brilliant job all round!

Sadly our mother has dementia and it progressed to such a degree that she needed 24 hour care . My brother & I reviewed a number of care homes and Milkwood came out on top. This was for many reasons. The friendly environment suited our mother and seemed like a home from home .The carers came across as
very committed and dedicated to the job they do. We were impressed with the standards of cleanliness and the facilities. The range of activities available
to resident's is excellent .We know we made the right choice for our mom and would recommend Milkwood without any reservations.

My uncle , "the magician", spent the last year of his life in Milkwood. He was very happy there, in spite of his quickly increasing dementia ,and loved to entertain folks with his amazing card tricks.
The staff were very always friendly and caring and I was always kept informed of what was going on
.
I was immensely impressed by the amount of different activities that went on at Millwood, even though my uncle couldn't always participate in them.
Very sadly he passed away earlier this year but he couldn't have had better care anywhere.
Thank you so much to the manager and your lovely team.
I'm sure wherever his spirit is ,my uncle is still busy doing his card tricks!

I had my reservations of my dad coming to Milkwood as I had not heard good things however I went with it and gave them a try. To my surprise the manager and his team have always been very welcoming to me and my family and have done everything in their power to support my dad and his additional needs.
I have watch my dad thrive since moving here as he is now engaged in conversations and activities. I miss my dad being at home but here is the next best thing.

We are a small team who provide extra support to an adult man living at Milkwood House Care Home, who has both physical and learning difficulties. The home is well run, friendly and well presented, with all the staff welcoming, approachable and well trained within their roles. On occasions our extra
support creates more work for the management and care teams, but they are always willing to help. The home and gardens are maintained to a high standard which along with the high standard of care creates a bright, positive, stimulating and happy atmosphere. While the personal centred approach to all of its residents ensures dignity and respect for all.

Ganarew House is, in my opinion, an ideal home for residents such as my sister in law. The care provided is excellent, the staff show exceptional kindess and patience and treat everyone with dignity. The rooms are ideal, the bedrooms being very suitably equipped as are all the facilities and the home

My mum moved in Castleford House 4 months ago and I've been very pleased with the excellent care she's received. I live nearby, so already knew that Castleford was highly regarded, but it's lovely to see it in practice. My mum has advanced dementia but is still mobile, but this is not a problem at
Castleford and it's good to see residents being allowed the freedom and dignity to move as they please around the main living rooms. Everytime I've called in to see my mum I've seen staff treat all residents with kindness and respect. Communication between the home and me is very good - they ring with any medical concerns and we have an essigned member of staff for my mum's overall care.

The team at Braeburn are just BRILLIANT they do a wonderful job of looking after each and every person in the home. It is like a home away from home. My great-grandfather has really settled in and is very happy there. The staff know what he loves and what he dislikes and they take care of all his
needs. We know he is in safe hands - given my great-grandfather is 103 years of age it is such a relief to know he is looked after. A big thanks to the team.

Outstanding care in a beautiful environment. I have immense praise for all the staff for their care and kindness to their clients. The home is wonderfully clean and well presented. This was my second experience with Chatterwood House Nursing Home. My mother moved there in 2020 and after a visit with
her, my aunt asked me if she could also move there when the time came as she could see how lovely the home was and the outstanding care. Both my mother and aunt were very happy at Chatterwood.

Wonderful care home.
Since my mother became a resident, she has been surrounded by the best care and ultimately, love.
Nothing is too much trouble, ideas, plans and needs are often suggested before I ask.
Staff are so friendly to the guests, families and visitors. The manager, senior carer, chef,
maintenance, housekeepers, everyone is involved with the residents and treat them with dignity and respect but also laugh with them and have fun.
Residents are entertained on a daily basis with in-house activities, crafts, baking and a 'theme week' occurs nearly every week of the year! Trips out are a frequent occurrence, treats are encouraged.
This is now my mum's safe space, she is happy and content and wants for nothing.
A brilliant place, five stars from me!
