My husband has lived in St Vincent House for six months now and from day one he has been cared for with love, dignity and compassion. I have visited him during every part of the day and into the night and have witnessed their continuity of this care. The management and staff were so supportive to to
me and helped both of us to adjust to our new lives, now we are apart, and I cannot thank them enough.
The activities they provide is wonderful, with entertainers coming in, trip outs
and celebrations marking all events. The team are excellent I would highly recommend.

Our dear mum was looked after and cared for at Eden House for the last 7 months of her life. A kinder and caring home would be hard to find. The management and all the team treated mum with kindness and respect at all times. When visiting, the home was always clean, bright and airy, and very welcoming.
The meals always looked very appetising. There was always someone on hand to answer any questions, but the needs of mum and other residents always came first. In mum's final days, she was never alone, everyone was there for her and also for her family. We all have fond memories of mums last months at Eden House. A wonderful care home.

St Vincent House, Southsea

from Jane H (Partner of Resident) published on 20 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My partner has been a resident at St Vincent House for nearly three years and now he is at the end of his life. The management team has adapted his care plan for this stage of his dementia and I have been kept fully informed and involved with the process. I have been given a full and clear explanation
of how he can be kept comfortable and safe with minimum intervention and within current guidelines.
He is treated with so much patience, care, and respect, and with knowledge of his particular needs and sensitivities gained throughout his time there. I am impressed with how much time the carers are able to give him on a 1:1 basis, reflecting the very favourable ratio of staff to residents and the general ethos of the Home. Good practice in any environment always comes from above; at St Vincent, it is taught, modelled, and encouraged.
I myself am treated with care and compassion at this difficult time. I don't have any family support and this means a lot to me, it gives me strength.

My Mother is coming to the end of her life after a stroke at 91. The staff are very respectful and thoughtful and keep me updated daily. The management was very thoughtful with financial matters and was very flexible. If anyone asks me what to look out for in a home for their loved one I say ask how
long the staff have been there as I have found great comfort as the staff at St Vincent's have been there all of the 5 years of my Mithers stay and some have been there considerably longer.

As a charity, we provide volunteers for care home residents who do not have family or are suffering isolation. We have had the pleasure of starting to work with Magnolia House recently who have the residents clearly at the heart of their care. Staff could not be more friendly, open and welcoming to
our volunteers. We look forward to a great working partnership.

My mother moved into Magnolia House for respite care at the end of September. She is being well looked after and the team has made significant efforts to get to know her and what works best for her. This includes a quieter lounge and dining area without too much background noise. Visits are welcomed
including my dog. She is enjoying the home-cooked food especially. Cleanliness is very good in all areas of the home. Photos and any sentimental items are welcome. The management and senior care team have been very responsive to any queries or concerns that I have raised and a solution put in place soonest. This includes phone calls and emails as I do not live on the island. It is likely that her care will be extended, at which time, more encouragement to walk around daily and be engaged in activities would benefit her alongside the friendly care that she is receiving. Thank you.

What a complete difference! Having visited my mother-in-law on several occasions in the past, this visit was like arriving at a different place with a different person! We have been called down on a number of occasions to visit her for an end-of-life visit, she was always in bed, not particularly clean
and covered in pressure dressings. I have to admit, I always went back to the hotel and got changed into clean clothes every time we left, having spent barely an hour with her as it was so disheartening. This time, however, we found her downstairs, fully dressed, clean and sat up smiling in the lounge with the other residents. There have clearly been a lot of changes! The furniture, while old, is clean and there is no smell. We spent around 3 hours each day there, chatting with the staff (which are all new!) and my mother-in-law was even up for a manicure! Two members of staff in particular have clearly moved mountains to get this where it is and I would highly recommend their care to anyone!

My aunt moved to Magnolia House from the hospital early in 2023.
She is no longer capable of living alone because of poor sight and frailty. She still thinks about home but would not be safe there.
At Magnolia House, she is clean, warm, comfortable and well looked after. She has not lost her spirit
and will complain whether justified or not.
I am always amazed by the empathy and tolerance of her care workers. Their work has to be extremely rewarding because it looks damned hard to me.

Lovely, welcoming home with really friendly staff.
Both my parents stay here (my mum does respite here, and my dad is a permanent resident) and both seem happy.
Unfortunately, my dad is nonverbal now, so he can't tell me his emotions or opinions, but I can just tell from his body language that he's
in a good and safe place to live, and my mum will chat about how she likes her "respite".

I was generally happy with Magnolia House, but when the new manager started last year, everything improved radically. Some of the previous staff left and new, vibrant and engaging staff were brought in and suddenly there was laughter and smiles all around.
My mum used to live in her room, refusing
to come out and eat all her meals alone until this year, she has grown in confidence and allows herself to be encouraged to join in with the other residents and to have meals in the dining room.
The rooms are kept spick and span; the residents are encouraged to keep clean and smart, and the food and snacks are plentiful. Mum gained weight!
The manager is so approachable that any tiny niggle is received with a smile and if necessary, dealt with immediately. So, I feel really confident that Mum is safe, happy and stimulated.
Safe; secure; bustling; bheery; pampered residents; clean everything. My list could go on!
Magnolia House is blossoming, just like their flowers.

Eden House is located in an elevated position offering direct views of the Solent. There is a secure garden area to the side where residents can experience a quiet time amongst the flora and fauna. My experience of home comes from almost daily visits to see my wife, who has Alzheimer's Dementia (late
stage) taking place over the last six months. I can see that my wife is well looked after by the staff and when I take her out in her wheelchair to a function she is always nicely dressed and ready in good time. I have been happy to observe the management team keeping everything under control and they responded to any requests promptly.
