Tremona Care Home

from G W (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother was a resident at the Care Home for almost 10 months. It was a shock for my mother going from independent living to needing more support and care. However the kindness and care given by staff helped her to settle in. In fact overall her health improved. All the staff were very caring and always
professional. They demonstrated knowledge and expertise in all aspects of care they gave my mother. It was a happy few months for her. There was a lovely atmosphere in the Home - staff made a point of greeting visitors and I was always made to feel welcome. The staff took an interest in my mother and made every effort to include her in activities laid on by the Home.

St Lukes & The Oaks Care Home

from Sue R (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My mum recently moved into the Lilac dementia section of St Lukes and the staff have been great at helping her settle and encouraging her to be with the other residents. The various carers whom i have met address the residents with care, respect, and a sense of humour! When i enquire, i have been informed
of how mum has been doing day to day between visits. Thank you all so much for her transition into full time care.
I am hoping that St Lukes will soon have an Activity Leader again to engage the residents in a regular timetable of events.

My mum was a resident at Osbourne Court from May 2024. My mum wasn't the most sociable and preferred her own company but all the staff made her feel special and often had a laugh and a joke with her. Mum loved the food and ate better than she had done in years. Mum felt safe and cared for at Osbourne
Court. The Management were very approachable they listened and responded to any queries we had.

Milford Lodge

from Nicki M (Daughter of Resident) published on 6 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother was a retired hairdresser and on her arrival day she was offered a wash and blow dry which was a stroke of genius to settle her into her new environment.
Mum was not a great mixer with people and had most of her meals in her room or the lounge, which again was not a problem for the staff.
Her
care was second to none, she was very well looked after over her 6 month stay and cared for sensitively during her end of life.
The friendly and helpful staff were always on hand when I visited to give me updates on how Mum was progressing. Towards the end, I received regular telephone calls on my mum's declining health.
I shall miss my visits to Milford Lodge and seeing the friendly staff who were always pleased to see me.
I can thoroughly recommend Milford Lodge, an outstanding care home.

St Leonards Care Home

from Kate G (Daughter of Resident) published on 6 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum has been with St. Leonard's for two years now. As a family we are completely overwhelmed by how wonderful this place is. The staff are all warm, professional and so, so caring. Mum is not able to speak, but they always understand what she needs. They know her as a person and have always actively
made sure that she joins in with activities she loves and let her be if she isn't interested. The atmosphere is relaxed and that is why the residents are so happy. The home and the grounds don't feel like a clinical environment, they feel like home.
Living so far away, I am totally secure in the knowledge that the staff are not only keeping mum safe but are actively ensuring that she feels loved and cared for. She is thriving at the age of 85 and that is a wonderful thing.

Clare Lodge has provided my wife with safe, efficient care in an environment which is warm and friendly. Indeed, it feels like an extended family. Any developing needs have been managed quickly and effectively, including full consultation with me.
As a relative I have always been made welcome at Clare
Lodge and treated with care, respect and friendship. Indeed, the concern of the management and carers for my own welfare has been an unexpected bonus and hugely supportive.

My mother has been a resident for almost six years. During that time she has been looked after by many different carers, all of whom have treated her with courtesy and respect. Her health has deteriorated and she is no longer mobile, but every effort is made by the staff to cater to her needs. She has
never wanted to join in the many excellent activities other than the cinema, which she enjoys and looks forward to. I have always been impressed by the standard of care at Montrose and the friendliness of the staff.

We were concerned about his health over Christmas and were worried if such a big move was right for him. We needn't have worried. The level of care from the friendly team at Osbourne
Court has exceeded my expectations. He is eating well, building up his strength again and now that he's only 10 minutes from me I can see him as often as I like. This is the best care home that Dad has stayed in and I am delighted.

Tara's Retreat Care Home

from Pauline H (Friend of Resident) published on 24 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

My friend was discharged from hospital for 'End of Life Care' in the evening. The following morning I went to visit at 10 am. I was let in, didn't see anyone, went to her room, she was lying there half-covered with a coloured type of sheet. There was a duvet on the armchair and dirty bedding on the
floor. I sat with her for 10 mins, then left, still didn't see anyone. A relative was going in at 12 which the Home knew about, so I knew she would be clean and comfortable for them. I went to visit again late afternoon and she passed away whilst I was there, Thank God I knew she didn't die alone. Also, how can a Care Home not have any clean laundry to use on Christmas morning?

Reply from KAREN langley, home manager at Tara's Retreat Care Home

I am sorry to read your negative experience. I will share your review and its contents with the team and ensure this experience is not repeated in the future. This is not something we have ever experienced before and our end of life care is usually very highly commented on by relatives. I am happy to discuss in person if you wish to do so.

I couldn't wish for a nice home for my mum. Mum loves the care that she receives and is always telling me how kind the staff are. It is always a pleasure to visit and I am always made to feel so welcome. The home is spotlessly clean. Any queries I have had are addressed promptly and efficiently. Thank
you to all the lovely team, I'm grateful to each and every one of you and so is Mum.

Greenhill Care Home

from D C (Daughter of Resident) published on 19 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My father was at Greenhill for the last few months of his life. His dementia was very advanced by that time - he was able to enjoy only the present moment. At Greenhill, the present moment includes beautiful gardens, with ancient oaks, cheerful marigold flowers and thoughtfully designed pathways and
seating to make it all accessible to someone with limited mobility. Being able to be in nature - surrounded by beauty and held by Mother Earth - was a true gift. The garden tearoom is carefully and beautifully tended - the tables are set with linen tablecloths and vintage china tea cups and there are baskets of books and knitting yarn, so it feels homely - like visiting a lovely old tearoom. I was deeply touched by the warmth, respect and sincere care I felt from the manager - I honour her loving heart. We stayed by my father's side in his final days - I witnessed so much genuine care and goodwill, day and night. We were all looked after with empathy and compassion. My heartfelt gratitude.

St Matthews Care Home

from Christina L (Daughter of Resident) published on 31 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My father moved to St Matthew's Care Home in Redbourn in January 2024. He had Alzheimer's and had tried to look after himself at home but was not coping very well. It was a big decision for us all and we had a good look around all the care homes in the area. St Matthew's was by far the best. During
his year living there, his health improved - both physical and mental. He had the choice of being in company in the communal areas or when he wanted peace and quiet, he could sit in his lovely bedroom.
The carers, headed by one member of staff in particular, were all so kind and patient. They were also incredibly supportive to us all which meant a lot.
The residents had a super entertainment team who took them out on trips, had musical afternoons and family events in the grounds.
Sadly, my dad passed away after Christmas at the age of 95. But I know he had a fantastic year at St Matthew's.
Thank you to everyone. You helped us all.

Review of

St Leonards Care Home

from L D (Wife of Resident) published on 24 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

A year ago I was faced with making the hardest of decisions knowing I could no longer cope at home. I visited many care homes, after repeated word of mouth recommendations, I visited St Leonard's Care Home. From the minute I stepped in it felt "right", a home away from home. Where I still have input
in my husbands care, but he is looked after by a team of people with competence and compassion. I wanted somewhere where the TV wasn't the only activity, somewhere warm (in every way), comfortable and clean. Somewhere I felt confident he would be well cared for. A year on I can say I've found it.

Montrose Care Home

from C W (Niece of Resident) published on 23 January 2025

Our aunt moved into Montrose Care Home in November 2023. She wasn't too keen on the idea of moving into a home permanently but she had broken both her hips and was 94! She is now so happy that she moved in and is looking healthier. We have found all the staff to be friendly and caring. She loves that
there are activities she could join in with but doesn't feel pressured to. We would definitely recommend the home to anyone looking.

Reply from Russell Sharp, Home Manager at Montrose Care Home

Many thanks for your kind review. The team are pleased to hear that both you and your aunt are happy with the care and support we offer. If there are any activities your aunt may be interested in, then our engagement lead will be happy to discuss this with you.

St Leonards Care Home

from Anna F (Daughter of Resident) published on 23 January 2025

I just love St Leonards Care Home. What a wonderful care home, all the staff are welcoming and friendly and they genuinely do care that mum is as happy and comfortable as she can possibly be. Her bedroom is spacious and everywhere is extremely clean. There are small courtyard gardens as well as larger
garden areas which enhance the living areas and are lovely in the summer. The food looks really good and the menu is varied with lots of refreshments being served through the day. I know Mum is being care for with respect and dignity in an environment that manages to be spacious but still feel cosy and homely. I feel my Mum is valued as an individual and everything possible is done to make her feel respected and a part of the St. Leonards family. It makes such a difference knowing she is being cared for so well. I can't thank the staff enough.
