The staff, managment team and entertainment lady are truly wonderful people as the residents are themselves. Really pleased we have been able to get back to the Dementia choir in Freshwater, which used to be the highlight of our week and is so again. My wife went to busy bees yesterday it's something
she really needs rather than sitting in all the time.

I have nothing but praise for the care my husband is receiving at Tile House. The staff are so kind and he could not be looked after better in any way. They seem to care about him as an individual despite his dementia. Tile House has such a happy atmosphere - it is a delight to visit my husband there.

Review of

Northbrooke House

from S B (Wife of Resident) published on 7 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

There is one thing that I am not happy about. When my husband was at Northbrooke, he was going through an aggressive phase, Northbrooke called me to say that they were going to put him on a 1 on 1 from 2 PM to 9 PM. I listened but did not agree to anything. They then said that a form would be sent to
me to sign which I never received. I didn't hear anything about it. Then all of a sudden I get a monthly bill of £3000 plus beginning in February-March.
In May and June, I visited my husband and asked to meet the 1 on 1 person, I was told that she was not in that day. Another time I was with a friend and he was sitting alone with all the other residents and not one person was around him or near him. This happened a few more times and I was wondering what I was paying for? Especially when the 1 on 1 was not in the day when I asked to meet the person. How many days did this happen? My husband has been self-funding for almost 3 years and now he is on Social Funding and I am paying half the fee.

Reply from Ian Bennett, Managing Director at Northbrooke House

Thank you for your feedback. We discussed the need for one-to-one support for your husband to ensure his and other residents' safety. We regret that the form was not received and acknowledge the concerns about billing. When we were informed a one-to-one might not have been present, an investigation was initiated, but the manager's departure meant it was unfortunately not concluded. It's possible that the staff member stepped away during your visit to allow privacy, which is standard practice when the family is present, however, I cannot confirm whether this was the case in this instance and apologise. When made aware, we provided a refund for the time noted without one-to-one care, and once safe, we replaced the one-to-one with an extra staff member at no extra cost. We are committed to ensuring quality care and appreciate your understanding. Please reach out if you have further concerns. Ian Bennett | Managing Director

Hazel Lodge

from C T (Sister of Resident) published on 28 August 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Hazel Lodge care home has been caring for my brother since February 2023, firstly as respite care but unfortunately now as palliative/end-of-life care. After a lengthily spell in hospital he was very pleased to return to the care and attention the home gives. Friendly staff and attentive who have made
his days certainly more comfortable and pleasant. All staff very helpful, the advantage of being a small care home. No hesitation in recommending Hazel Lodge.

Reply from Karen Oliver, Registered Nurse Manager at Hazel Lodge

Thank you so much for your very kind review. It has been such a pleasure getting to know your brother over the months he has been with us. We will continue to provide the highest level of care for him maintaining his comfort meeting any needs he has. It is an honour to care for him. Kind regards.

The staff are patient with Mum, and ensure both she and all residents have what they need. They are proactive, and have a 'Special' way with the residents, making each one feel respected and cared for. It's so important to be in a loving environment when your life has changed beyond your control. Mum,
being a stroke victim, had her life turned upside down overnight. Your staff make her laugh, feel part of a family, and give her a reason to carry on and enjoy life.
All your staff are outstanding, and as I have stayed overnight to be with my mother, I have to give a special shout-out to the night staff! I am in awe of their professionalism and care throughout the night. I feel that she is checked on, and well looked after. They work so hard all night long, ensuring everyone is okay, as well as other duties that need to be done. They smile and are so caring at all hours throughout the night, nothing is a problem, they are simply amazing!
Thank you.

My friend has been a resident for about 18 months and in that time he has been cared for very well. Although he is unwell he has improved from his time at Northbrooke House. The biggest challenge is to improve his physical abilities but he still seems reluctant to participate.

Reply from Debbie Thunder, Registered Manager at Northbrooke House

Thank you so much for your review of Northbrooke House and the care provided for your friend. As you are aware we encourage and support our residents to participate in general and one-to-one activities but if they choose not to engage we have to respect their choices. On arrival, the manager was immediately very welcoming. She understood how we felt and reassured us. This new path the whole family had to take was good for everyone. The staff are friendly and caring. They give 1-1 time with the residents and incorporate family members into conversations. Nothing is
too much trouble and assist straight away. Mostly with thanks to the manager, we no longer feel guilty or a failure.

My mum has been happy at the home from the day she moved in.
Safety and safeguarding are taken very seriously by the staff, we have no worries about her being kept safe.
My mum is treated with respect and dignity at all times.
The staff take time to listen to my mum and know her likes and dislikes
very well, especially related to her diet and her love of singing. Staff facilitate my mum joining an external community choir every week. The choice of diet is good considering the challenges of a special diet.
The housekeeping team is dedicated and committed to providing a healthy environment.
My mum's care is highly personalised.
Communication is good with an effective management team leading a strong team of staff. It should be acknowledged that reference to staff in this review includes night staff.
When we visit we are always greeted with a smile and offered refreshments. Thank you.
This is a real gem of a care home with well-trained, caring, and organised staff.

Everyone at Highfield is so lovely! The manager and the team really care for Mum and she is happy and settled here. Letting someone else care for her was the hardest decision ever, but they are relaxed and so supportive, so she is content. We can visit when we want and her things make her room her space.
A great plus is the garden too, which she can use whenever she feels like it.

Review of

Westview House

from R H (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 25 June 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My grandmother is currently a resident and overall I feel happy with the care home. Cons - My only criticism would be the lack of entertainment. I have never witnessed anyone doing any sort of activity with my grandma unfortunately. The staff at Westview, although extremely knowledgeable and very kind
are sometimes hampered by language barriers. It is sometimes difficult to understand some members of staff but that does not detract from the care received. Pros- Although the meals appear very samey (most likely because it's a soft diet) the food is very tasty and well presented. The manager is extremely passionate and often goes above and beyond for residents and families. She is always happy to resolve any issues and is so dedicated to making Westview a safe and homely place for our relatives. I would without a doubt recommend Westview to anyone thinking of residential care for their loved ones.

Reply from Ian Bennett, Managing Director at Westview House

Thank you for your feedback. We're delighted to hear that you had a positive experience overall and value your remarks regarding our activities and international care staff. To address the concern about activities, we are in the process of hiring an Activities Coordinator to enhance our programme, ensuring a wider range of engaging and varied activities for our residents. Regarding our overseas care staff, each team member is selected for their professionalism and compassion. We believe their diverse backgrounds enrich our community and contribute to the high standard of care we provide. We are confident that their English language skills will improve over time. We are committed to continuous improvement and appreciate your input in helping us achieve this. Thank you once again for your review.
