Byway House is an exceptional home from home. It's like walking in to a warm hug. The staff are friendly, kind and knowledgeable . There is alway a big welcome when I visit , always an offer of tea and cake and nothing is too much trouble to make life as normal as possible for my friend. The best bit
( easily the drummer) is that I can still enjoy activities with my friend in the comfort of her home.

My close friend has been at Byway House for a few years. The home is more like a home, and is called a Residential Home for the Elderly. Residents have their own rooms, my friend having one of the bigger rooms. The staff are very caring and friendly. If there's any problems they sort it with kindness
and great care. Being a small home, the residents are all known to each other and can ahare meals in the dinning room, or join in with excersise, flower arranging and other forms of entertainment. The residents can go out shopping with staff or family. Family are always included in any events the home put on. I would recommend Byway House to anyone needing a home from home for their famil/friends.

The staff are very friendly and caring. Mum would enjoy a walk up the byway but the carers as often too busy. Mum enjoys the drumming as she finds it very therapeutic. Mum also enjoys the flower arranging as she finds it very stimulating. Mum enjoys the food as the choices are excellent. Mum is very
happy in the byway.

Reply from Erin Crisp, Registered Manager at Byway House Care Home

Hi K, Thank you for your review. every review is greatly appreciated. we have loved looking after mum for the years she has been with us.mum loves her morning routine and as previously discussed especially of late mum has declined her walks up the Byway with staff. we will always continue to offer this to mum as we know this is important to her. there has been 1 or 2 occasions where mum has wanted a walk during our personal care morning hours and unfortunately these were unable to take place at that precis time, staff will then offer mum a walk when they are available which will be within the morning hours.

The Beeches Care Home is a wonderful place. A home from home. My aunt is extremely happy here and the surroundings match her previous home. The care staff have built wonderful bonds with my aunt. I see this whenever I visit. I am known to each member of staff and they recognise straight away who my
relative is. A testament to getting to know their residents and the residents' relations. Can't recommend the care home highly enough.

The Beeches is an absolute golden find. The location, building and rooms are all wonderful and homely, but what really makes the difference is the staff - all long-standing (no agency) and the friendliest, most caring people you could meet. I really cannot think of anything bad and we are so very grateful
to The Beeches for making our aunt so happy and cared for. Christmas party was superb too!

After more than two years as a volunteer at this excellent care home, I want to share what I enjoy about the home. My role has been to lead fortnightly painting sessions as a volunteer, after my retirement as a mental health nurse specializing in dementia care. The environment at Highgrove House Care
Home is designed to meet the needs of people with dementia. There is good signposting and reminders around the house to keep people in touch with the time, date and place where they are living, with attention to the seasons and relevant calendar events. Photographs and artwork are placed to encourage conversation with the residents which helps to orientate them and helps them to feel part of a home. The residents are kept in touch with the community through regular community events where they, their families and volunteers come together. The care team is motivated and committed because of energetic and skilful leadership.

My mother was looked after at the Byway House Care Home for eleven years after entering the home with arthritis. A lot of the staff were consistent during this time and she considered them as fiends more than carers. She later progressed into dementia and was sometimes difficult but as a care home,
they continued to care for needs. The home is small and friendly, close to the village centre and within walking distance of the beach. Being small, the home isn't able to offer the same level of facility as larger homes but Mother preferred the family atmosphere. My sister and I never had any second thoughts about the Byway.

A very well-managed home-from-home care home.
Plenty of entertainment and interaction from the staff.
Good quality food which is varied with choices.
All the staff we have met are very professional and there doesn't seem to be a high turnaround of staff which makes the stay less anxious for our father.
Family
members are welcome to visit anytime with no time limit restraints.

Without exception the staff are caring, attentive and friendly. The food is exceptional and well-presented offering choices at each meal (including wine), which my mother enjoys. The trained nurses are quick to respond to medical issues and always keep me (as P.O.A) well informed. There is a varied
selection of entertainment which my mother enjoys, but sadly is not well attended by many. Special events throughout the year are never missed and the home is regularly adorned with decorations to mark these events. All in all a very well run and happy home.

When I was looking for a care home for my mum, Highgrove House was the first one that we visited and we were so impressed by the friendly staff, homely feel, and cleanliness that we didn’t need to visit anymore.
My mum who is 101 years old has been a resident for 2.5 years and the care she has received
has been excellent. The staff are always friendly, making her laugh and encouraging her to get involved with the various activities that they provide. The food is all homemade and the chef understands all the resident's needs.
When it was her 100th birthday they held a garden party for the family and all the residents joined in with afternoon tea and a special birthday cake, the mayor came as well!
The care home has arranged various outings which the residents enjoy, along with with their family and friends.

My mother moved into Highgrove a few months ago. She has dementia and I was concerned it would be hard for her to settle into a different environment. Fortunately the care and attention to detail of her needs/routine has meant that she immediately felt at home and is very happy and settled. The staff
are outstanding and the effort everyone goes to ensure they have daily activities is really good. It was important for me my mother was in the company/enjoying activities/meal times with other people instead of being in her own room for many hours by herself. The food is outstanding and the chef takes great pride in cooking from scratch with lots of choice. Families and visitors are made very welcome at any time. Her personal care is also excellent and it makes me happy to see her and other residents looking so well cared for, a sign of how attentive and caring the staff are. I feel very fortunate I chose Highgrove House for my mother.

I have medical power of attorney for my uncle. He has been at Highgrove House for 10 months. As a family we have been delighted with the care he has received. The staff are all very caring and personable. The home is very well managed and has a warm, welcoming family atmosphere. There is a varied programme
of stimulating activities for residents that my uncle really enjoys. The home-cooked food is also excellent. Residents are treated as individuals and the staff know them all very well. My uncle is extremely happy at Highgrove House and I would highly recommend it.

Highgrove House Care Home

from Sandra R (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 January 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Highgrove House is a wonderful place, I am so glad that I found it. It has a homely atmosphere, with caring staff who give the place a family feel. They have made mum feel very comfortable and safe. Mum, who sadly has dementia, has taken part in a very wide range of activities since she arrived 6 months
ago. She participates and enjoys so much and it’s great to see. Making pasta was a completely new experience for her. The home is lovely and warm, and there is AC in the lounge for hot weather. All areas are kept clean and tidy with no lingering odour issues. The food is excellent and as a result, mum has started eating properly since she arrived. We as visitors get a friendly hospitable welcome, again, like family.
If Mum has had any issues, the staff have acted straight away and always let me know. I also feel comfortable raising any concerns with staff and management. Importantly, Mum is happy, healthier, and safer here. Without a doubt, Highgrove House and its staff are excellent!

My mother's health improved significantly by being looked after by such caring and professional staff. Mother had stayed at The Beeches after a long-term illness and weight loss. After 3 weeks Mum was able to return home having put weight back on because of nutritious meals. Nothing was too much trouble.
The chef prepared meals to suit her individual needs. I would highly recommend The Becches as the staff work well together and there is a nice family feel to the place.

The Beeches is an excellent nursing home and welcoming, bright, spotlessly clean, well decorated and furnished. I have been a resident for a couple of months and could not be in a better home. The staff are cheerful approachable and very caring. They treat with respect and as individuals whose wellbeing
is paramount. There is regular contact with the local GP surgery and any sign of ill health is noted and acted on. Several social activities are organised during the week for residents who wish to attend. Meetings are held for residents to express views and make suggestions for improvement. The food is cooked on the premises all tasty and varied. Recommend the Beeches without hesitation.

I have no complaints about the service provided to my relative and she is very happy and comfortable at the Beeches. From my observations, she is treated respectfully and has a strong bond with regular members of staff. Sadly, she has severe short-term memory problems which means that she can’t remember
if things we have requested on her behalf have been executed or otherwise therefore some type of informal feedback would be welcomed e.g. a planned trip out to a garden centre - did she go, did she enjoy it, did she behave etc. From our point of view, her day-to-day life at the care home is largely a mystery and it would be great if that gap could be filled somehow.

Finding a good nursing home for a loved one is a difficult task. We visited quite a few before choosing The Beeches for my father; what a great choice it turned out to be, all the staff were friendly and attentive, the nursing team are caring and knowledgeable, the food is good and plentiful and the
communication from the nursing team to the family with regular updates was helpful and re-assuring.
My dad enjoyed the regular entertainment that was available most days; the use of the garden room as a venue for dads family to join him for birthday celebrations was an added bonus as was the delicious birthday cake they baked for him.

Based on our experience I would be happy to recommend The Beeches to others.
