Thorp House

from Barbara R (Sister of Resident) published on 20 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My sister has been in Thorp House care for several months now and I couldn't wish for her to be in better care, she is very happy there and loves to get involved in all the activities, which seem to be considerable as well as trips out. She had been in 2/3 temporary care homes but was not happy,
here in Thorp House she is absolutely settled, with very caring and sympathetic staff.
Before this, I was always worried about medication as she is diabetic and would get her medication muddled but she is now supervised so no problem there. Whilst I am unable to visit, I am kept fully informed by her son and daughter .
I would like to thank the staff at Thorp House for taking such good care of my sister.

Reply from Claire Brooks, Manager at Thorp House

Dear Barbara, Thank you for your kind review. We couldn't be more pleased to give you the comfort that your sister is well cared for here at Thorp. Warmest regards

Downham Grange

from Derek A (Cousin of Resident) published on 10 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I would like to leave this review, on behalf of my relative. We did hear a few negative views, but this was not the case when my relative stayed here.
My relative stayed at the home after having an operation done for rehabilitation. It was great experience for him and us family and friends that came
to visit him during his stay at Downham Grange. The environment is clean, odourless and spacious to move around in his electric wheelchair. The staff are very caring and attentive and friendly. I would recommend the home despite the CQC report almost 2 years. Initially the report was discouraging, but am glad we tried and we did not regret. If you are thinking of letting your family member stay here, go and have a look at the place first. You will be surprised how good the place is.
A big thank you to everyone in Downham Grange Care Home.

My uncle moved to the care home recently. My family were apprehensive at first but he seems to enjoy it. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive. They go above and beyond to make him feel comfortable and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I would recommend this Downham Grange.

Buckingham Lodge

from Amanda K (Daughter of Resident) published on 10 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

An excellent care home. My Mum and step dad were both resident at Buckingham Lodge. Following my stepdad's passing in November, I asked if we could hold a gathering at the home for friends and family after his cremation. I was very thankful and impressed with how well looked after we all were. We were
given a private room, afternoon tea was laid on and we were personally looked after by a member of staff.
Since this sad event, the staff have looked after Mum very well, encouraging her to join activities, offering time, and support. She was moved to a new room and maintenance staff helped make this as homely as possible. Buckingham Lodge is a very caring place, staff show exceptional kindness to Mum and I am always made to feel very welcome when I visit.

Mum was in for one weeks respite care following an operation. From the moment we went into the home we felt welcomed. Everyone was smiling and couldn't do enough for us. The care was good and staff were positive and respectful of how mum wanted to have her care done. She loved the fact that she could
have a bath. If we need respite care again, Downham Grange is at the top of our list.

King's Court Care Home

from Joanna B (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Our father, aged 84 years with terminal COPD and emphysema, was reaching the end of his life. After a couple of falls, he was rushed into A and E and then admitted to hospital. The hospital was not the place he or we wanted him to spend his final days, so we arranged for him to move to Kings Court.
He was assessed in the hospital by the head of nursing care who came out to see him and was extremely helpful in guiding us on how to manage his conditions and make him comfortable. Once he reached King's Court, the excellent care and attention he received from everyone, albeit for a short period of time, was wonderful. He died peacefully amongst family in a beautiful room overlooking the garden, with plenty of time and quiet space to say his final goodbyes. Everyone at King's Court was incredibly helpful, kind and compassionate, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone in a similar position and would be happy to give a reference if required.

Reply from Debbie Bush, Home Manager at King's Court Care Home

Buckingham Lodge

from John T (Son of Resident) published on 31 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother has been in Buckingham Lodge since July 2024 after 2 short periods of respite there. The building in very well maintained with nice modern decor.
The staff are very friendly, understanding and caring to both the residents as well as the residents families and everyone is treated with dignity.
The staff work hard to keep the residents safe and occupied, encouraging them to take part in many activities for body as well as mind. The food is prepared, cooked and served on the premises by in house chef and staff. My mother loves all the food!
Overall Buckingham Lodge in my view is both very well managed and run by all the staff and gives all my family peace of mind that my mum is safe, supervised and well cared for socially and medically.

The Council have been trying to move my mother to another residential home dye to the costs, all the staff have been very helpful and concerned for my mum's well being and offered help and advice for me in an attempt to prevent the move. Thankfully there is a positive outcome after 7 months of worry

Mum was given a room after hospital discharge on Christmas eve. Having met the manager and deputy prior to this we received outstanding support and help. Mum has been given the care, support and medical help she needs without questions. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their continued not
only through the Christmas period but also for their valued support, informed and knowing of mum's care. We cannot consider anywhere else to take mum other than here. They are outstanding.

From the initial call to St Mary's Care Home I cannot fault anyone or anything. The care required for my uncle was immediate and St Mary's did everything to accept him swiftly and over the busy Christmas period as well.
The staff, rooms, food and hospitality are all amazing. As a family we can't rate
St Mary's highly enough. Knowing my uncle is safe and cared for is such a relief and knowing we can visit anything is also very reassuring. They offer a very personal service and I would recommend it to anyone.

The current CQC rating for Downham Grange Care Home is an insult to the new manager and her team who have worked tirelessly to bring the home up to the standard one would expect of a long standing service to the community of Downham Market and beyond. All the staff are wonderful people who are genuinely
caring and considerate. Residents are treated with respect. The manager goes the extra mile to ensure all the residents needs are met. She is very compassionate and deeply caring. An Angel in disguise who runs a tight ship! A sincere thank you to everyone!
