Winfield Lodge Residential Home

from V M (Sister of Resident) published on 19 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My sister has been at Winfield Lodge for 19 months during that time she has been treated very well as she has been very difficult at times. Mainly because of her dementia. I have been kept updated about her welfare at all times.
Activities are excellent and residents are always encouraged to take part,
I have also enjoyed these times as a visitor.
Unfortunately my sister is near end of life. But still treated with dignity, keep up the good work.

I have nothing but praise for the care my husband receives, in my view the friendly + smiling staff do a very difficult job with respect, dignity + compassion, they are always alert and attentive to the residents and visitors needs. They also check that I am ok. I feel less stressed that he is well
cared for.

My Friend has been at Culverhayes nursing home for nearly 3 years. The care she gets is great from all the staff are so friendly and caring. The food is lovely well balanced and good choice menu is change regularly so keeps meal time intresting. Over the last 3 years the home has gone through an amazing
transformation by there own team of trades people making it a bright and lovely environment for the residents. The gardens are lovely for a afternoon in the sun with my friend. The wellbeing staff are always coming up with entertainments to help the residents to relax and enjoy life. The house keeping team keep the place clean, and the residents cloths washed daily, so they always look there best. I could not have have found a better place for my friend.

Every time over 5 years that I called (randomly) the staff were kind, and in between kept me well updated on my people's condition. If something wasn't good (eg not eating/infection/other) they rang me immediately. Staff always jolly and patient with all residents. When my people were dying, they rang
me and urged me to com in. The husband died, staff great when the wife was dying they rang me early AM, I got there and they provided me with excellent food all day and checked frequently on us. I felt the couple were well loved and so was I.

My father has been a resident at Oakhill Mansions for over a year now, and I am very pleased with the high standard of care he receives. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they create a calm, caring and spotlessly clean environment. During our visits, my family always feels very welcome, and we
are always able to discuss any medical issues with the nurse. The home itself is a beautiful building with light, airy rooms and a lovely garden where we can take Dad outside in the warm weather. I would highly recommend this nursing home.

All of the staff including the auxiliary staff were helpful friendly, supportive and very hardworking. Nothing was too much trouble and my dad always looked clean, well dressed
and well kept. It was no secret that my dad was a very challenging resident when he first arrived at Eden Mansions but the patience, care, understanding and professionalism shown to him was amazing. The emotional support shown to me and my family has been truly amazing. I cannot thank all those involved in his care enough. I have donated a bird table to Stanneylands, where in good weather my dad found happiness watching the birds. I hope the staff and residents can enjoy and remember my dad. Thank you to all of the wonderful kind people who worked at Eden Mansions you will remain fondly in my thoughts.

My mum lives at Oakhill Mansions. She's lived there for over 2 years. She has lived with Dementia for about 15 years. I can't speak highly enough about the staff here. They care for my Mum as if she was their own. Her room is beautiful, always clean and tidy.
She is always nicely dressed. (This is
so important as mum has always been a very smart lady). Staff are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you all, you are angels.

Review of

Oakhill Mansions

from Lisa L (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 February 2025

Dreadful experience over 18 months. Only interested in £££. Staff poorly trained (especially dementia). English skills very poor - elderly residents don't understand staff and staff don't understand important medical/social needs. Two activity coordinators for 90 residents! Stressed, under resourced/unappreciated.
Very little activity provided. Refused to use minibus, never took people out. I took mum out three times a week to compensate. I was exhausted, all for extortionate fee of £8,000 per month. Apart from basic and nursing care, there's no love or respect, no consistency of staff in a dementia unit and 'manager' inept/powerless. Mum fell down concrete steps (Christmas day), as no outside lights and fake foliage on handrails so mum couldn't hold on! She was 89 and could have died. I fed back all my concerns via their own well-being survey, totally ignored. Contacted the owners, unaware and did not care. Equipment was broken and filthy. Food and laundry ok but a dead, joyless place. Do not send family there. Awful.

Reply from Elizabeth Denny, Area Manager at Oakhill Mansions

We are sorry and surprised that you still feel this way, despite many attempts to rectify your concerns in early 2024. An external consultant investigated your concerns, many were determined unfounded, but improvements were made. For example, when your mother resided at Oakhill, we hired private vehicles for individual outings which were regularly used by your mother. However, in response to your feedback, the company now owns three large Minibuses for Residents' outings. Regarding the fall, unfortunately, you chose to use the stairs while accompanying your mother, instead of the disabled access slope. Following the fall, you praised our staff in writing, for their swift and caring response. Your Mother was at Oakhill Mansions for 18 months until April 2024, during that time you gave a lot of positive feedback about our staff and your mother's care. We continue to receive praise for our caring staff. There have never been concerns raised about their English proficiency before now.

Following the death of my dear wife, I must write to say thank you to the staff and management of St Teresa's for the care and support that was given to her during her time there, plus the support and sympathy shown to both myself and my family since her death.

The staff at The Lodge, Oakhill Mansions are caring for my 96 year old mum in a sensitive manner. She has had a stroke and also has a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia. She is always treated with respect and my siblings and I are confident that she is happy, safe and secure in this care home.
