The review only specifies 1 month but my review is based on a 12 month residency.
I visited the nursing home prior to my Mother taking up residency. I was struck firstly by the cleanliness of all areas I saw. The rooms I saw, that my Mother would be offered, were all light, and well decorated. These
rooms either had views onto a well kept garden, with patio door access, or on upper floors, a sea and coastal view.
The manageress was both professional and reassuring. I made my decision on my initial assessment, not the CQC rating. The latest rating is now rated at 'good',which is well deserved.
All carer staff are very well trained and carry out their role professionally.
The home has its own transport, and driver.
A variety of interests and entertainment is provided.
The nursing staff listen to residents families and do carry out their wishes if these are sensible and do not jeopardise the residents health.
The management is excellent, giving confidence in the care provided.

My uncle moved to Kingsmount on 30th June 2021 and sadly passed away on 21st Feb 2025.
He was looked after wonderfully for the three and a half years and I was always impressed with the cheerful and positive attitude exhibited by all the staff I met and spoke with on the phone.
The manager, in particular,
has always been a calm and capable voice at times of concern and I was moved to hear that one staff member in particular had visited my uncle in hospital in his final few days.

Having to move my mother unexpectedly into care after a deterioration in health, was made so much easier due to the diligence and respect shown by all of the staff and management at Mount Olivet. Mum adjusted so much more quickly than I expected due to the friendly and welcoming staff who engaged with
her. The care and attention demonstrated were always to the highest level, and whenever I visited, Mum always spoke highly of everyone. She even went as far as saying that she missed everyone there when admitted to hospital. Sadly we lost Mum recently, but I am so grateful to everyone at Mount Olivet for the care and compassion they showed her, and I wish to extend our sincere thanks for making her final days happy ones.

I live four hours from the area. I had to be assured that my father was treated with respect for his dignity and well-being. During my visits, I could see that there was a genuine warmth to all in their care. Moreso that this warmth towards the staff from Father was reciprocal.

My mother was a resident at Kingsmount Residential Home from February 2023 until she sadly passed aways in October 2024. The team at Kingsmount made every effort to meet her changing needs and her various likes and dislikes! My mother loved to talk to her carers about their lives and families, all of
the team were so lovely to her and she made some lovely friends. During the last few days of her life, everyone at Kingsmount was exceptional in caring for our mother and in care and support for myself, my sister and family.

My father initially went to Kingsmount in 2018 while my Mom was in hospital. When she was fit she joined him in a double room and loved it, my father was mobile but virtually deaf and blind, the care they received was excellent and they decided to sell their home in Brixham and live in the home. My
father has since passed but Mom, who is now 97, still loves her life there and the various staff that look after her. I live in Spain and know that she is receiving excellent care. Whenever I phone or visit, the friendly, caring staff are always fully aware of her condition and regularly pop in to see her. I feel that she is in the best place, where she is looked after like a family member.

Dad has been a resident at Kingsmount since the beginning of the year. His dementia can make him difficult to deal with at times, particularly with regard to personal care. The staff have been extremely patient with him and have ensured that they build a rapport with him so that he is not so resistant
to care, to the point where he now participates in activities in the lounge much more than he ever used to. We are extremely grateful for this level of care and the staff's determination to maintain his quality of life.

As a family we were very anxious about Mum going into residential care but from the beginning she was shown care, respect and the staff couldn't do enough for her. Sometimes it's not easy for the person needing 24-hour care to settle but the staff from management down are excellent in making this happen.
There are plenty of staff to sit with Mum when she needs it and always tea and cake. There are regular activities in the afternoon from outside entertainers and an activities coordinator on the staff for crafting. The meals are very good and the catering staff quickly got to know Mum's likes and dislikes. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kingsmount and thank you to all the staff for looking after Mum.

My mother was at Kingsmoouth for a year. During the time she was in the home, she had less falls, less visits to the hospital, and her dementia stabilised due to increased interaction with staff. She also gained weight. The staff are very concerned, happy and caring. Her end of life was fairly well
managed and she was warm, comfortable and checked on for pain.
Any improvement would be the consistency of care could be improved.

Reply from Carole Wood, Finance & Operations Manager at Kingsmount Residential Home

Thank you for providing this feedback. I will ensure the home manager is aware of the points you raise. A member of the hospital staff helped me choose a nursing home for my brother. I lived in the north of England and my brother had lived in Devon. He wished to remain in Devon. I found them supportive.
