I always say that Ashfield saved my mum, it's been proven time and time again , just recently mum was poorly , I was contacted straight away , explained what was going on , I was able to go sit with mum till really late , when arrived I was met by a member of staff that told me exactly what was happening
and took straight to mum, she also sat with us for some time so I wasn't scared , a welcome cup of tea was bought to us and mum was soon on the mend again , I can't recommend and thank Ashfield enough , the staff are very friendly and always on hand to help , mums very happy and very looked after , thank you everyone for saving my mum x

Ashfield

from D H (Son of Resident) published on 12 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mum came to Ashfield following a short stay in hospital. A bout of influenza left her with some delirium , therefore it was decided to allow some respite for me, and more recovery time for her in a rest home. She has found the move to a care facility extremely challenging and her behaviour has
been difficult. All I can say is in my experience so far that the staff have been wonderfull. They have shown incredible warmth to me , but more importantly to my mother. I especially have to mention the home manager who has gone out of her way, often outside of her working hours to reassure me of any worries and concerns i have. This kindness extends to her team who are treating my mum with patience and care, in what I consider a very challenging job.

Reply from Ionela Manole, Manager at Ashfield

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a heartwarming review. It's truly appreciated by both myself and the team here at Ashfield. I'm so glad to hear that despite the challenges your mum has faced with the move, she has been receiving the care and attention she deserves. It means a great deal to me to know that the support I've been able to offer you has helped ease some of your concerns. It's our priority to ensure that families feel reassured and involved in their loved ones' care, and I'm pleased to hear that this has been your experience. I'm also very proud of my team. Their dedication to providing compassionate care, especially in difficult circumstances, is what makes Ashfield such a special place. We'll continue to support your mum and help her with her recovery as best we can.

Lake View Retirement Home

from Adam M (Son of Resident) published on 11 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Dad became a resident of Lake View just under a year ago, after an unplanned admission to Hospital.
Each time I have visited, all members of staff are friendly, approachable & willing to answer my questions.
The residents look well cared for and I have always found the care home clean and tidy. Dad
has started to become a "falls risk" on the stairs, so to pre-empt future problems/injuries, he was moved downstairs. This, to me shows that the staff are thinking of the residents well being. I also know the home Manager feels that food and nutrition are very important and as such the chefs produce some lovely looking meals.
I live some distance away from the care home. Therefore, I find the regular news letters interesting. As, they detail past & future activities/entertainment provided for the residents. Along, with providing general information about the home itself.
On the whole I'm very happy that my Dad is a resident of Lake View & more importantly he seems to like living there.

Reply from Carole Fellows, Manager at Lake View Retirement Home

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of our home. I have passed on your lovely comments to the whole team. Our chefs take great pride in what they produce for everyone.

I feel it's not a building that makes a home but the staff and they have always been very friendly and approachable. I have been to a few homes in our area in the last couple of months visiting relatives and Michaelstowe definitely came top. The manager and staff have always looked and are very busy,
they all are very professional and kind to our family, they are happy to resolve any problems.

Ashfield

from W S (Daughter of Resident) published on 3 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother moved into Ashfield in October 2024. She has chronic schizophrenia. She has good days and some very bad days. The manageress was always available to talk to me before she moved in and made me feel that this was the right place for her to live. Every time I visit, the manageress is always on
hand to give me an update on her or to let me know of any hiccups that have happened. My mother left an institution and moved into a beautiful home. She's not an easy resident, but the staff handle her with care and respect. She loves the food that is cooked fresh there, and I've noticed that her weight seems to be more stable than where she was before. The dining room is a lovely, light space and very inviting. The residents were singing to a singing duo last week, and they were wonderful to watch. My mother is definitely in a good place at Ashfield, and I feel that she has made friends and is integrating really well there. I am so happy she is there.

Reply from Nelly Dumitru, Manager at Ashfield

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this thoughtful review. We are thrilled to hear that your mother is settling in well at Ashfield, and it's heartening to know that both you and she feel supported and cared for. Our team strives to create a safe and nurturing environment for all of our residents, and it's wonderful to hear that the care, attention, and personal updates have been reassuring for you. We're also happy to know that your mother is enjoying the food and has been able to maintain a stable weight, which is so important. We look forward to continuing to support her on her journey and are so glad to hear she's forming connections with other residents. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we are delighted that she is in a place where she feels comfortable and happy.

I want to thank everyone at Lake View Retirement Home for the level of care that my father was given during the last two and half weeks of his life. He was treated with so much kindness and respect. My friend went to Lake View in December 2024 till January 2025 when he sadly passed away. The standard and level of care and standard of care was excellent from all the staff. My friend was happy to be there and said to me that the staff were nice. Because my friend was finally on end-of-life care I
was allowed to be with him all day and night so I was also able to see the standard of care during the night and that was also excellent. Having also seen and tasted the food I can honestly say that it was lovely home-cooked, nourishing meals. I am a retired qualified nurse who worked many years in older adult and I would have been proud to have any of the staff here on my unit. For me the care is more important than a building that might need a lick of paint. I can honestly say that I would be happy to be a resident there.

My mother-in-law has been at Michaelstowe for several months now. It is a great relief that she has 24-hour care in a friendly home where she has all she needs. Compared to having carers call to her home twice a day.
She has plenty of people and activities to interact with.
All of the staff are
friendly and welcoming when we visit and keep us fully updated on her care.
The relatives' gateway is fantastic, we can see everything we need connected to her care and well-being 24/7.
It's lovely that we can spend time and even eat there or take her out for trips etc.

Reply from Amy Stokes, Manager at Michaelstowe

Thank you for your wonderful review. It is really appreciated and demonstrates the love and care the team are providing each day. We are very delighted with how well she has settled and that she is enjoying her social life both with us at Michaelstowe and with you when you visit or go out for the day. I will share this feedback with the whole team, just to remind them what a great job they are all doing.

My dad left hospital in a terrible state. He was anxious, unhappy and distressed. Within 24 hours the change in him has been amazing. Since being admitted to The Manor House he is much happier, says the food is great (he is quite fussy), he has slept and the staff are absolutely lovely and nothing is
too much trouble for them. I was so worried about leaving him there but I needn't have worried. The relief I feel knowing he is in safe hands and is being treated so well is very reassuring.

Review of

Ashfield

from S P (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My mother was in Ashfield for around 18 months before she passed. She loved the kind staff and although Mum was a fussy eater they tried to tempt her with things. Mum joined in the social activities and boat trips when she was still able as well as shopping trips.
The building needs work - the ensuite
toilet was too small to navigate with a walking frame, poor internet connection made phone calls tricky, and there were insufficient plug points. All care homes need to upgrade internet access for the next (my) generation (whilst we have the cognitive abilities). Mum used to video call me but then couldn't and often staff were too busy, so sometimes I could not speak to her for days. There was never a hand towel in the room. But the rooms have been painted and Mum had her things. She wanted to stay at Ashfield even though she was 200 hundred miles away from her family. The important thing is that Mum was happy there and the staff loved and cared for her.

Reply from Nelly Dumitru, Manager at Ashfield

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. We are truly grateful for your kind words about our staff and the care they provided for your mother. It's heartwarming to hear that she enjoyed the activities, social events, and trips and that she felt comfortable and well cared for during her time at Ashfield. We also greatly appreciate your constructive feedback about the building, as we are always looking for ways to improve. We will certainly take your comments into consideration as we work towards making necessary upgrades to enhance the experience for all our residents. We are so glad that your mother felt at home here, even being so far from her family. Her happiness and well-being were always our top priority, and it's wonderful to know she was content during her time with us. Thank you again for entrusting us with her care. We are deeply sorry for your loss, and we send our sincere condolences to you and your family.

I cannot praise this care home enough; I am fortunate to have never had to experience being in a care home before my granny joined Kenweyn in January 2022. The care they provided not only for my granny but also for our family. Even though I wasn't able to see her as often as I would have liked, if I
called, they were always happy to answer questions and lend an ear to my beautiful memories of her. There is a genuine sense of community that you perceive the moment you walk through the door. All of the careers are amazing, and I'm sure Granny would have been very pleased with the care she received. I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at Kenwyn for looking after my granny for the past two and a half years and always having a shoulder or tissue to cry on.

The home is warm and welcoming. The staff are friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble. My sister has gained weight due to the plentiful and tasty food. My sister enjoys the planned activities and is very much at home able to access all parts of the home safely. Staff always have time to talk

Beechmount

from Pauline C (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My dad was in hospital and needed to go into respite care placement.
Mum was already in Beechmount, the manager held a room for dad so they could be together. Sadly, dad's health went downhill very quickly as he had congestive heart failure, within a few weeks of him being in Beechmount, the doctor
said he only had a couple of weeks to live. He was soon in bed 100% of the time, we stayed with him. We were all treated with compassion and respect throughout. Drinks and food were constantly being brought up to us. All the staff were so kind, going above the expected standards, coming to chat and becoming friends with us in a difficult situation. Dad was so at peace with everyone, he was arranging for me to organise a coach to take the staff to Ireland on holiday. This gave him a great deal of pleasure in his last days as dad said "They have done so much for us all, it would be good to do something nice in return". Dad didn't know he was dying, he kept saying "I hope we can go, it will be such fun".

Beechmount

from Rufus C (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 28 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

First, I have to say that writing a review for Beechmount is akin to writing a review about a family member because, in effect, they have become an extension of family and we are all in this together.
Mum's (mother-in-law actually) dementia became acute enough that the council determined she was a
risk to Dad (father-in-law actually). Beechmount took Mum in, dispelling her fears and often confused anxieties with loving assurance.
When Dad's (father-in-law actually) health rapidly deteriorated to the point of needing care, Beechmont graciously made room for him. And whilst he needed to stay in a separate room (due to Mum's complications) Beechmount's staff made his last days incredibly positive and when he passed away, much like family, we all felt his loss.
Mum still resides there and whether it's sadness, confusion, tidying or just moments in need of a smile and a hug, love and respect are abundant amongst the staff in Beechmount Care Home. My wife and I are incredibly grateful for them.

I visit my sister-in-law 3/4 times each week, and almost without exception she is sitting in her chair either sleeping or staring into space. Sometimes she is dressed but often in her pyjamas: with time and encouragement she will participate in a simple game/drawing or jigsaw, but mostly just gets lost
in conversation about her situation at Kenwyn. I do find it difficult to get into and out of Kenywn - long waiting times for someone to come to the door - I guess there is a staff shortage.

Reply from Daniel Ruddock, Manager at Kenwyn

Thank you for your review. There may sometimes be a delay in answering to visitors especially during busy periods. We are consistently fully staffed and have very good staff retention across all departments.
