When I went to visit Dorset House for the first time after visiting other care homes and was shown around it just felt perfect. The staff, grounds, rooms and facilities. The residents looked so at home, relaxed, happy and well cared for. So impressed. I decided to move my mum here. The home was very
quick in responding. They visited my mum in hospital and went through her wish list. Her room was really lovely with a garden view. The staff were so friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. Sadly my mum passed away the next day as she had been very poorly in hospital and was on the end of life path. She had a beautiful smile on her face, looking at a beautiful garden view. The staff were exceptional in the way they dealt with the situation and the family were treated with such love and kindness. My mum said on arrival at Dorset House that she wished she had come here a year earlier as she loved it and immediately felt at home.

Reply from Esther Sheppard, Senior Customer Relationship Manager at Dorset House

Thank you so much for sharing such a touching and heartfelt message. We are deeply sorry for your loss and truly honoured to have been there for your mum and your family. It means so much to us to know she felt at home and at peace. Your kind words about our team and the home are sincerely appreciated.

Dorset House

Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

It was Mum's last wish not to pass in a hospital so we looked for a rest home where she would be comfortable and well looked after. After several viewings and recommendations, we viewed Dorset House. From the moment we walked through the door, my sister and I were bound over by their Care Manager's
warmth and the care and attention all the staff gave the residents, and the atmosphere encouraged, the residents all looked happy and content.
The Care Manager listened to all Mum's wishes and took care of all the arrangements for a smooth arrival from hospital into the care of Dorset House.
Unfortunately, her stay was all too short and one of the last things she said was she wished she had stayed sooner as she was so happy, content and well looked after.
I would have no reservations recommending Dorset House to anyone thinking of respite or long-term care for any of their loved ones, thank you all so much for making Mum's passing so peaceful.

Reply from Esther Sheppard, Senior Customer Relationship Manager at Dorset House

Thank you so much for your beautiful and heartfelt words. We're truly honoured to have been part of your mum's final journey and to know she felt happy, content, and at peace during her time with us. Your kind feedback means a great deal to the whole team at Dorset House.

It was my stepfathers 100th birthday and the effort put in by all the staff we saw at the home was above and beyond our expectations. The amount of food and quality of the food was the biggest shock!!! The birthday cake the chef had done was actually the best I had tasted....you could tell a lot of
effort and care had gone into it. Anything we wanted the staff were only too happy to assist. A very memorable 100th and we are very grateful to all at Fairlawn.

We visited a relative at the home on Monday, and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. They arranged to move our relative from her room to the lounge so that we could all be together as the room felt crowded with 3. The staff member who moved her did so with care, talking to her all the time.
The lounge was clean and tidy and the chairs very comfortable. Each time I have visited, I have found my relative to be well cared for, and she seems very happy there.

I would like to submit a further review in recognition of the amazing team at Alexandra House. A few weeks ago It became sadly evident that my mum was entering her last stage of life and both immediately and seamlessly the whole team came to our aid. Mum was cared for so tenderly and we too, as her
family, were cared for with such kindness and consideration.
Mum received careful attention throughout the day and the night with her comfort and dignity being main priority at all times. We truly believe that due to the exemplary care given, Mum's last journey was made as restful and dignified as it could possibly be.
We cannot thank you enough for your dedication and for the support that each one of you offered so generously and consistently to mum and to her family.

My mother was receiving respite care and then end of life care. Throughout this difficult time, she was treated with compassion and respect. Myself and my family were always greeted with a smile and encouraged to ask for assistance or information at any time. We were well informed and always asked if
we had any needs, from concerns about mum to providing tea and cake.
The care given was exceptional and always prompt and sensitive if requested. My mum was made as comfortable as was possible, liaison with health professionals was efficient and communication excellent.
As a family we will always be grateful for the support given to us by all the staff, helping my mum and all of us through our most difficult time.

I was worried when we came to the decision that Mum needed full time care that we could no longer sustain at home with her worsening Vascular Dementia. It was with a heavy heart that we placed Mum at Buxton House, however I cannot speak highly enough of the care she is now receiving there.
Between
my Mums siblings one of us will see her almost everyday and of course she will talk of returning home in the future but always tells us how nice the people are in her 'hotel' !!! She enjoys the food, the activities and the days out they have. Most recently I visited her on Valentines Day and the Events co-ordinators had organised a lunch for residents with one family member able to have a specially set up Valentines meal. Really meant a lot to me to spend those few precious hours with her in such a nicely created setting.
Thank you Buxton House.

Mum moved in October 2024, from the start she was made to feel very welcome and settled as well as can be expected. I cannot rate the staff highly enough they all know mum and are extremely caring. The activities are good and if she goes to them she does enjoy it although sometimes has to be persuaded
to go. The cleanliness is outstanding, both in her room and general areas. Mum enjoys the food and there is a lot of variation. It's very professionally run and I feel totally reassured knowing mum is there and she is safe, well looked after and happy.

We were warmly welcome to Buxton House where my dad was given a large, bright, scrupulously clean ensuite bedroom. It is well decorated and furnished and has a warm homely environment. All the staff have shown great care, compassion and understanding of my dad and his needs. He is now well setled and
happy and interacts naturally with the staff and other residents, its lovely to see. The staff have gone to great lengths to give my mum and me lots of support and calm, patient reassurance. About dads day to day care needs, we're both hugely grateful for their professionalism and kindness. I can very confidently recommend Buxton House to anybody requiring dementia care for a loved one.

Having seen the programmes today - 20 February 2025 - I felt driven to submit a review. My mother was a resident. It was with heavy hearts and guilty minds that we arranged for my Mum to go into the care at Castledene. She had dementia but was a lively, intelligent funny - sometimes awkward lady.
I cannot praise the home enough for the easy transition. As my Mum gradually lost memories she built new ones with the care and support she received. She was part of the big family there. My Mum died last year and the home were superb with my Mum and us. If you are in doubt about where your loved ones will get the best care - it is here. Do not worry they look after and love the residents and their families.
