Happy with care and support mum is having. On more lucid moments and today mum has said she likes it here. Dad always comments about how nice the staff are. For me, staff always nice and helpful and always answer any queries and happy to help.

Our mum has been a resident at Damfield Gardens for 4 years now, and we feel that this is a good care home.
Mum's care is good, the staff work extremely hard to look after her and if we have any concerns they act as quickly as possible to sort problems. We know it would have been much harder to access
medical help for Mum if she'd been living at home. It's true that a number of staff left to work for a new unit that opened in a local hospital, but that was a one-off event, new staff have been recruited, but there are some staff who have been there for a while and who know Mum well. She is loved and cared for by the staff and we know she's in the best place for her.

Reply from Alison Brownbill, Operations Director at Damfield Gardens

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback and for your kind words about Damfield Gardens. We are truly grateful that you've entrusted us with your mum's care over the past four years, and it's lovely to hear that you feel Damfield Garden is the best place for her. Our team works hard to provide the best possible care, and it's reassuring to know that you've felt supported when raising any concerns. We know that staff changes can be challenging, but we're pleased that new team members have joined us and that your mum continues to receive the highest level of care from them. We will always be committed to ensuring your mum is looked after with love and compassion. Thank you again for your thoughtful review. Kindest regards, Alison Brownbill - Operations Director

My Mum has been a member of the Damfield Gardens family for almost 4 years now and, in that time, I have nothing but praise for the care she has received from the outstanding staff. This year has been particularly difficult as serious health issues have made it impossible for me to visit my mother but
the staff at Damfield Gardens have been a lifeline. Not only have they kept me updated on how my Mum's doing but I have also received several calls checking up to see how I am! Knowing that my Mum is in such a loving environment where her best interests are always put first, has made it possible for me to concentrate on my own recovery. I am looking forward to going to visit her shortly for her 99th birthday!

Reply from ALISON Brownbill, Operations Director at Damfield Gardens

Thank you so much for your kind words. It truly means a lot to us that you feel your mum is in safe and in caring hands at Damfield Gardens. We are proud of our team and knowing that their support has made a difference not only to your mum but also to your own well-being is deeply rewarding. We're so happy to hear you're on the road to recovery and you are looking forward to your upcoming visit to celebrate your mum's 99th birthday! We look forward to welcoming you soon. At the recent Summer Fayre, I was disappointed to see my mother sitting in the lounge, which can be stuffy, (yes I know the temperature is always warm), but I was hoping to see her outside enjoying the fresh air in the garden. If I hadn't visited that day I honestly believe she would not have got out.
She particularly enjoys live music entertainment. Whilst I understand that there are not enough carers/staff, to take residents on a one-to-one basis, I believe she could have been taken out if for a short time.

Reply from ALISON Brownbill, Operations Director at Damfield Gardens

Thank you for your feedback. Our aim was to ensure that all residents had the chance to attend our Summer Fayre. To make this possible, we brought in additional staff who, dressed in their own clothes and assisted in helping residents in and out. We also extended invitations to families and friends to join their loved ones at the event. Since residents could not be left unaccompanied, we had to organise their participation in small groups. Additionally, some residents preferred to remain inside, so we ensured that there was sufficient staff available within the home. I can assure you that every resident was given the opportunity to attend the fayre that day. Kindest regards

Mum is looked after very well by Damfield Gardens. She is very happy there. A shout out to the staff who are caring and put themselves out to do lots of activities. The Wild West fair particularly was well organised and a fantastic afternoon. They have extracurriculars going on all the time. Mum has
lots of needs which are all met. The home managers keep in touch with me all the time and I would highly recommend this for your loved one. She says the desserts are lovely too all homemade. Can't fault it.

The care home itself was clean, bright, and airy, it was the personal hygiene that did it for me. When we went to look around we were told they had the odd days out and activities, but I saw none of this. My husband was looking very neglected and smelly. I was told he would not go in the shower, I personally
showered him myself on 2 occasions. One of the staff told me my husband packed his suitcase after the evening meal every night and walked around with it. I immediately brought it home with me one evening he was sitting in the corridor with his meal in front of him. He had been sitting there for an hour. I received a phone call at 7 AM to inform me there had been an incident at 1:30 that morning, but he was fine, the nurses had been out and dressed his wound, and he had cut his arm. She described in detail how it happened and I would like to know how she knew this as my husband was in his bedroom and she was down the corridor in her office. They put my husband on their doctor's list, I only found out after about 2 weeks as I rang our doctor to book for a blood test for him as he has had cancer and is still being monitored but was unable to do this as he had been removed from our doctor's list. I contacted the cancer team and they sorted it for him and told your people they had no right to do this.
I informed his social worker who in turn informed the council who will be looking into my complaint. The care home knew I was very upset and angry the way my husband was looked after. It goes without saying I would never recommend Colliers Croft.

Reply from Alison Brownbill, Operations Director at Colliers Croft

We were upset when we read your review and apologise unreservedly for the upset we have caused. I have spoken with the registered manager and all relevant staff about your complaint and gone through this with them point by point. We have had staff meetings with all relevant staff where it has been made very clear to them that the issues you describe are unacceptable and certainly do not reflect the high standards that we aspire to. The staff member who spoke to you about your husband's accident obtained this information from a staff member who was in the vicinity when it occurred. We requested an appointment from your husband's GP, but as he was outside of their area, they were unable to visit. As he was on respite care with us we don't know why he was removed from their list. Once again, please accept our apologies. Thank you for your complaint - this will be used as a way of monitoring where and why we have fallen short and enable us to continuously improve our standards.

Having made the difficult decision for my Dad to go into a care home, I knew entering the home and meeting the manager that I knew I couldn't have chosen a better home. My Dad has settled in quickly and feels safe. Management and staff are wonderful and go the extra mile for their residents. Nothing
is too much trouble. The food is delicious and varied.
The home is modern, bright, and very welcoming.
He loves to help in the gardens and takes pride in his home.
The owners and staff have made it into an outstanding home.
One of a kind which is hard to find.

Our Grandad was cared for at Collier's for almost 12 months until he passed away in May at the age of 92. Colliers was always our first choice after looking at many homes in the area. He went on the waiting list and when we got the call for a space being available we jumped at the chance. He had never
settled elsewhere but did immediately so here. It was home! When Grandad was moving in, we were told they weren't just there to care for him, but for us as a family. This is so true. All the staff on Floor 1 supported us just as much as Grandad. Kept us informed along the way and hugged us when things got tough. The team and residents are like a family and this shows in the level of care they provide. Not just the carers, but this extends to the entertainment team, the cleaners, cooks, maintenance - everyone.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this last year the best it could be for Grandad.

Mum became a resident at Damfield Gardens in the summer of 2023. After initially having a previous bad experience at a different nursing home, as a family we had our concerns over Mum's placement at Damfield Gardens. Mum had a couple of trigger points for her anxiety which were identified by the staff,
and positive measures were put into place quickly and efficiently to ensure that she settled well. The staff have been brilliant with Mum, she is happy, well cared for, and in a safe environment. She has enjoyed lots of activities that regularly take place. Knowing that Mum is in such good hands has given us enormous reassurance and peace of mind.

A huge thank you to all staff involved in Mum’s care. They really do go above and beyond. Mum regards Colliers Croft as her home and is obviously comfortable, happy and very well cared for. As a family, we are kept fully up to date and always feel included in all aspects of Mum’s care and well-being.
Yesterday the home arranged a valentines soirée for residents and their friends/families. The home was beautifully decorated and residents had been fully involved in Valentine’s Day-related activities prior to the event. A singer/ukelele player provided the entertainment and was very well received with everyone singing, clapping and thoroughly enjoying themselves. It was a joy to see and was wonderful to have the opportunity to share precious moments like these with Mum. Thank you, Colliers Croft, for all you do; it is very much appreciated.

My mum has been a resident at Damfield for approx 15 months. She has dementia and is very confused and upset, crying most days. This hasn't changed in the whole period she has been there.
She has had great difficulty settling in and doesn't like to mix with other residents. There have been a number
of occasions she has been admitted to hospital due to falls or other medical reasons.
The staff are very caring and helpful, especially the entertainment ladies who my mum feels really happy with and they always try and include her in everything. My concern is the turnover of carers.
The residents, especially on the top floor, I feel need more stability of happy, helpful, familiar faces. Every day my sister and I visit, there are different agency staff who are not familiar with the needs of my mum or the other residents and are relying on 1 permanent member of staff to tell them what is needed.
In 2023 a lot of the permanent carers left within weeks of each other! I'm not sure what the problem is.

Reply from Kishan Patel, Business Development Manager at Damfield Gardens

Thank you for your kind comments about our carers and activities staff. In relation to your comment about agency staff - please note that like the vast majority of care businesses in England, we are challenged every day by the shortage of carers in the industry (circa 150,000). We are fully aware of this issue and actively recruit every day. We don’t use agency staff by choice.
Our staffing complement on the floor comfortably meets accepted ratios and that doesn’t include the Deputy Managers and Registered Manager. A new Registered Manager started in post on 8th January and is already delivering great results, including with culture and staff motivation. Our main purpose, day in and day out, is to deliver the best service we can to our residents. Despite the challenges faced by, for example, the staffing shortage, our commitment to our residents remains resolute. If you would like to discuss any issues further, please contact our reception and ask to speak to Michelle Francis.

Having had to make the most difficult decision being told Mum needed 24-hour care I researched Damfield Gardens and was not disappointed. The place is beautiful and kept spotlessly clean, I immediately felt a warm homely, like family vibe from both staff and residents and I immediately knew this place
was perfect. Mum's room is beautiful overlooking the gardens and is always kept clean. I had a lot of breakdowns whilst visiting Mum adjusting to her not being home but I can honestly say the staff (team) comforted me, reassured me and made me feel like I was also part of the care they give. I've been given so much advice on how to deal with Mum's issues and I truly am so lucky that Mum is where she is. I have observed how much care and compassion they give to the residents. My mum is absolutely adored by all the staff, they are an amazing team and I know she is safe, loved and cared for and is happy. Thank you so much for taking great care of Mum. During the first lockdown I had to make the hardest decision, the time had come to find a dementia home for my mum, Damfield Gardens Care Home was recommended. Leaving her at the door was heartbreaking but the staff welcomed her with open arms. In the time Mum has been a resident she has been well looked
after, cared for and well-fed. The staff are caring and professional even during the recent unprecedented times (Covid and staff shortages). The management team are approachable and nothing seems to be too much trouble. Her room is always clean and the laundry staff are to be applauded for the mammoth task they take on each day. The staff work hard to keep all the residents stimulated with various activities and themed days. The families are always kept up to date via emails and Zoom meetings. Caring is not just a job it's a vocation.

My mum has been at Damfield Gardens for 18 months. Although we wished she could stay at home, unfortunately, she needed 24-hour care and we looked to find the best place we could for her. At Damfield Gardens, she has been looked after really well. The staff and carers are very pleasant and friendly
and happy to answer any questions we might have, they serve home cooked excellent food and encourage her to take part in activities. My mum always had her hair done once a week at the hairdressers and she has been able to carry on with this as they have a salon on site with a hairdresser coming in twice a week. She always liked to look nice and this has helped keep her morale up along with looking at and walking around the garden with staff and visitors.

As a daughter, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life to let Mum go into respite care. From our initial assessment, I felt assured that everything was going to be ok. Staff took a genuine interest in my mum, her life before old age gave her limitations and her current interests. She absolutely
loved Colliers Croft Care Home and made friends with both staff and residents. So much so that she didn't want to come home and is looking forward to her next stay. I think that speaks volumes in itself. Her room was lovely. Everywhere was clean and tidy and so welcoming. I can't praise Colliers Croft highly enough. Thank you all for your wonderful care and compassion. Not just for Mum but to me too.

In this time he has shown some very challenging behaviour which has been difficult to deal with as his daughter. The staff have been amazing with him, they have adapted
