I have always found staff and carers very friendly and my husband well cared for. He passed away in March, when I called to collect his possessions I could not have asked for more kindness and compassion, along with shared memories of my husband and his personality. Thank you to everyone.

We were very reluctant to take this step in our mothers c are, but it proved to be the best opportunity for her. She received loving and considerate care from the staff during her 3 month stay with them. Her dignity and respect were paramount to the staff who kept us fully informed to the end. The distance
we had to travel to visit was not a deterrent for the quality of care mum received.

Reply from Jennifer Greenwood, Home manager at Vyrnwy Nursing Home

Thank you so much for sharing your kind words. We truly understand how difficult and emotional it can be to make the decision to place a loved one in care, and we are deeply honoured that you trusted us with your mother's care. Your feedback is invaluable, and it motivates us to continue offering the highest standard of care.

My uncle came into the care of Vyrnwy Nursing Home Feb 24. He was there until he passed away sadly in Jan 25. I visited him on numerous occasions and without exception the care, attention to detail was exemplary. He was popular with the staff even though he was in essence bed ridden. A great team who
always helped him 100%.

Very good care from the staff. It is a very sociable home with many activities for the residents. The maintenance of the rooms is very good, perhaps the refurbishments could be more frequent. Overall it is a very good care home.

From the minute my Uncle entered Vyrnwy Nursing Home he was genuinely cared for! Everyone is so friendly, kind and thoughtful.
It's so hard when your family lives all over the world - you just hope your loved one gets treated with kindness and dignity they deserve and Vrynwy has delivered exactly
that.
Every time I called it was no trouble for them to get my Uncle and they said often how much my Uncle enjoyed our chats. When I emailed photos they would print them to give to him straight away.
He spoke happily about the lovely location of the Home, all the activities, outings and the garden which he had a great time tending!
When he passed recently, I felt a particular staff member and all the team were genuinely saddened with the loss of him at the home - it's shows a great deal about the quality of the people employed throughout the home.
As a family member I cannot not recommend Vyrnwy Nusing Home highly enough for the true care that you want for the people you love the most! Thank you all so much!

Dad moved to Derwent in December 2024 due to health review , staff at Derwent were welcoming and warm from the beginning not only to dad but us as his family. He was treated with dignity care and compassion, always greeted with a smile and time to not only see to his needs but to generally chat with
him and us . Dad's care was above and beyond what we expected, he was kept warm, clean and plenty of refreshments on hand. Sadly we lost dad on 25th January 2025 and he was continued to be treated with the dignity and respect he deserved. Thank you all at Derwent.

My brother lives here and I've been very impressed with it. The staff are amazing, so caring and kind to my brother.
The food is excellent and he really enjoys his full English breakfast and other meals provided.
The home is well-organised, great manager and is always spotlessly clean.
The layout
of the building is great and unlike other homes I've been to.
Each area has its own small lounge which makes it feel less overwhelming.
My brother feels settled and when we visit, it feels like a family.
The events put on at Christmas, Easter, Halloween parties etc. are excellent. They make such an effort and my brother enjoys them.
The only downside is the lack of activities, they have struggled to find an activities organiser and this is a real shame as they definitely need more daily activities for the residents.

My dad has been a resident for just under 12 months. He has settled in really well, something I was apprehensive about. The staff are always welcoming and many go over and above to make each resident feel heard and part of what is going on.
The rooms are comfortable and we have been able to take Dad's
personal items to make it more comfortable. I would recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone in need of residential care.

While my father has been at Brocklehurst Nursing Home, he has shown great improvement in certain areas. This is, in part, due to the care he receives from the staff at the home who are both friendly and professional. His mobility and eye-to-hand coordination have improved greatly and his general mood

My mum has been a resident in Brocklehurst Nursing Home for a number of years now and has extensive nursing needs. I have always found the staff to be very caring and compassionate and experienced in being able to provide the type of care my mum requires, whilst always maintaining her privacy and dignity.
Mum has developed strong relationships with many of the staff and feels safe, secure and well cared for.
Standards of hygiene and general cleanliness have always been high throughout. The home strives to keep the morale of its residents high through interpersonal interactions and regular activities. Friends and family are always welcomed with smiles and cheerful demeanours from the staff.
I am happy to be able to recommend Brocklehurst Nursing Home to others.

Absolutely terrible. Honestly don't take your loved ones to this hell hole. Poorly staffed, horrible staff, obviously couldn't care less about anyone relying on their help. No one does any work and are extremely abusive. My mother can't breathe, end of life and they are horrible with her, holding back
her palliative care medicine. Please don't make the same mistake I did.

Derwent Lodge Nursing Home

from Jacqueline B (Daughter of Resident) published on 9 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My father came to Derwent Lodge from hospital after being admitted from home (with carers) in Feb 2024. It was such a relief to see he was treated with dignity and respect despite some challenging behaviour at times. At last he was in a safe environment where he was given proper meals, kept clean and
regularly checked.

He stayed there until he passed away at the beginning of September 2024. Throughout this time he needed to be referred to a number of external agencies and various changes in needs and meds were necessary. Most of this went smoothly although there were occasions when I needed to chase for information rather than being contacted with updates by phone.

The carers and nurses were all approachable and friendly - they quickly got to know my dad and his likes and dislikes. This broke down somewhat when agency staff were needed to cover. Entire place was clean throughout.

Overall I would recommend. Bring back the entertainment though - the other residents loved it.

My mum was admitted to Brocklehurst Nursing Home in July 2024 where she was admitted from the hospital I found the overall level of care extremely poor even though I complained to the manager on a few occasions. The staff were abrupt and generally uncaring. My mum had 2 falls during the first two weeks
of her admission. Sadly she passed away there on 17/8/2024. I would not recommend this Nursing Home to anyone.

Superb nursing home.
My mum has always received excellent nursing care. She has complex needs and can pose challenges sometimes. The staff at the home are always good with Mum. Nothing is too much trouble. Myself and my family are reassured she is safe and in capable hands. Staff are really friendly,
smiling and approachable.
All staff go out of their way to chat with myself and family. They will update us on anything new with Mum.
