Dad moved to Derwent in December 2024 due to health review , staff at Derwent were welcoming and warm from the beginning not only to dad but us as his family. He was treated with dignity care and compassion, always greeted with a smile and time to not only see to his needs but to generally chat with
him and us . Dad's care was above and beyond what we expected, he was kept warm, clean and plenty of refreshments on hand. Sadly we lost dad on 25th January 2025 and he was continued to be treated with the dignity and respect he deserved. Thank you all at Derwent.

My father came to Derwent Lodge from hospital after being admitted from home (with carers) in Feb 2024. It was such a relief to see he was treated with dignity and respect despite some challenging behaviour at times. At last he was in a safe environment where he was given proper meals, kept clean and
regularly checked.

He stayed there until he passed away at the beginning of September 2024. Throughout this time he needed to be referred to a number of external agencies and various changes in needs and meds were necessary. Most of this went smoothly although there were occasions when I needed to chase for information rather than being contacted with updates by phone.

The carers and nurses were all approachable and friendly - they quickly got to know my dad and his likes and dislikes. This broke down somewhat when agency staff were needed to cover. Entire place was clean throughout.

Overall I would recommend. Bring back the entertainment though - the other residents loved it.

Superb nursing home.
My mum has always received excellent nursing care. She has complex needs and can pose challenges sometimes. The staff at the home are always good with Mum. Nothing is too much trouble. Myself and my family are reassured she is safe and in capable hands. Staff are really friendly,
smiling and approachable.
All staff go out of their way to chat with myself and family. They will update us on anything new with Mum.
We as a family are extremely grateful to all the staff nurses, care, management, chefs, handyman, cleaning. We can't thank them enough

Derwent Lodge Nursing Home

from Wendy M (Wife of Resident) published on 7 October 2024

Emergency respite had to be arranged quickly for my husband who has Huntington's. I was struggling to cope and he had never been in a care home, we were both so frightened about this but also knew we couldn't carry on as we were. He stayed in Derwent Lodge for 2 weeks whilst a care package was put in
place.
From the moment we walked through the door we found it to be so welcoming and friendly, from the receptionist to all of the front-line care staff, chef and cleaner. Everyone was so kind and looked after my husband so well. This was such a relief as I was worried about leaving him initially, but felt reassured by how warm and welcoming everyone was. I got to know the manager who is very approachable.
Having worked in the care sector most of my life I could see that the positive culture in the home comes from her, she is very caring and has respect for everyone. Her staff are very happy in their jobs, that speaks volumes I think about how the residents are treated.

Having only been a resident for 3 weeks we have limited experience of the home but up to now have found it excellent with staff very helpful and spotlessly clean at all times so a good start! Nearly all newly decorated and a lovely new furnishings.

Review of

Derwent Lodge Nursing Home

from Heather M (Sister of Resident) published on 22 August 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

My sister has been removed from this home 29/07/2024. She was neglected so badly that I got authorities in. Mental health and adult social care, I would not recommend this home to anyone. The pictures I have of the care she didn't receive and the conditions she was in were disgusting. My sister was
end of life and treated very poorly. It was heartbreaking. I did report to CQC the staff and management are rude and arrogant. My sister is in hospital with very large spleen and chest pains. The home was told she was in pain and did nothing and kept the door shut so no one would see the state of her. No one ever bothered to sit and talk to her, but now she is safe clean and cared for 24 hours. The proof I have of the conditions she was in is disgusting.

Reply from Nicky Dunn, Home Manager at Derwent Lodge Nursing Home

Dear Heather, I completely understand that this is a sensitive time for you and your family. However, I do want to clarify that your review appears to have been written before we had the opportunity to meet and present the evidence of the steps taken by our team to support your sister. While the circumstances surrounding this situation are challenging, I respectfully ask for your confirmation that the issues you have referred to are not related to neglect on the part of Derwent Lodge. Throughout your sister's stay, all appropriate referrals were made, and external healthcare professionals were regularly involved in her care. Additionally, no safeguarding concerns were raised regarding Derwent Lodge by any of the involved professionals. Due to the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the dignity of our residents, there are limitations to what we can share publicly. However, I would be more than happy to meet with you again to provide additional clarification where needed.

I have previously submitted a review and this one covers the new management. The new manager has made improvements in the overall care standards. The room is not well organised in terms of layout. The ensuite door does not close for privacy. Activities are currently very poor. They were previously excellent.
There was a "buzz" before now nothing. The quiz continues due to one resident's skills. Liaison with relatives/Next of Kin - is not often followed up. The laundry is outstandingly good. The care staff are kind.

Review of

Lezayre Nursing Home

from M B (Partner of Resident) published on 1 July 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Exceptional care and management. I was initially anxious for my partner to be placed in a home. She was dying and in need of round-the-clock support which I could not give. I have not had experience with homes and read and seen a lot of negativity about care homes.
I'd just like to say my anxiety
was short-lived when stepping into Lezayre. Management was so accommodating to my and my partner's wishes. Carers and nurses gave my partner outstanding care and respect. All staff were always smiling and friendly. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
I have seen and heard a lot of kind and heartfelt moments in this home between staff and their service users. I would see staff talking to the service users with love and compassion. Many times I would come in and see and hear party preparations. I know my partner would have loved this if she had been well enough. It was obvious all service users mattered and the focus seemed to be about them and making days fun and worthwhile.
Thank you Lezayre!

My mum lived at this home, but she’s sadly passed away now.
Words can’t describe how well looked after she was. The care here is second to none. The staff are friendly and inviting. Me and my family were always made to feel like a home from home. You are made to feel like part of an extended family.
The care my mum was given at the end of her life was comforting, respectful, and dignified. Me and my family walked away from such an emotional and heartbreaking experience, to have comfort in the fact Mum died peacefully.

My aunt has been in Lezayre for approaching 2 years now. I take my dad to see his sister regularly, they are both in their 80s and my auntie has severe dementia. We can't thank the staff enough for how they care for my aunt. She has great care, everyone is so kind and patient with her. The new lady
who has joined to engage with residents is already making a difference, although not to take anything away from everyone else who are amazing and do an incredibly difficult job with compassion, kindness, conscientiousness and humour. Thank you all so much.

My sister and I had to put Mum into a nursing home 6 months ago due to dementia. We are so glad we chose Lezayre. They have gone over and above to make Mum feel welcome but also supported us during this traumatic time. I say traumatic because this as many of you will understand is how it feels to take
a parent from their home and independence but it was the best thing we did. All members of staff are pleasant and friendly. They all muck in with jobs and work so hard, always with a smile. We now sleep at night knowing Mum is safe.

Thank you once again to the manager and her amazing team for the outstanding care provided to my husband.
Recently my husband has been quite poorly. The care and dedication of the Lezayre team has been and continues to be, second to none. All procedures were followed to the letter. I was well-informed
and consulted throughout.
Thankfully, he recovered enough to enjoy his birthday celebrations last week and once again I was delighted to see the genuine, heartfelt care from the staff and the further enjoyment of the residents singing Happy Birthday! The chef made a special fuss of him.
This is an extremely well-run care home, with an emphasis on really being home from home. From cleaning to catering, care to clinical needs, entertainment and maintenance, and everything in between, all staff are cheerful and happy to accommodate any requests.

My mum came to live here last month. The home is lovely with lots of activities for the residents to join in with. All the staff are lovely and caring and my mum is shown dignity and respect at all times. The new management team have improved things a lot since taking over. Care plans are in place and
referred to, to ensure the correct care is given. I'm very happy my mum is at this home.

My parents had to suddenly go into care and I was a little worried about how they would adapt to such a major lifestyle change from independent living. However, the friendly and helpful staff have helped them settle far better than I expected and I am very pleased with the care and support they have
received in the home. There is a real community spirit and a genuine desire to please.
