We are satisfied that Mum was cared for satisfactory, however an inconsistency in staffs skill set and communication was evident. Mum was treated with dignity at all times. We feel the rooms required some attention in terms of cleanliness, redecorating and upgrades.
Improvements were made two fold
when the activity's team member joined.
Some of the more established staff were first class.
Two members of staff were amazing during the night of mums passing.

We are absolutely delighted with Barony Lodge in every way. Dad has settled in quickly and adapted well. We can visit him at any time of the day or night without prior notice. The home is immaculately clean, modern and bright. The staff are outstanding in every sense. Friendly, approachable, responsive,
knowledgeable and professional. We have every confidence in them. The food is prepared on site and is exceptional. As visitors, we can also order food so that we can eat with Dad as well. I guarantee that it is excellent!
There are a wide range of activities and residents are encouraged to participate. Socialising is encouraged. Dad especially likes meeting up with other men to talk about and watch football together. There are quiet lounges available to retreat to and an outside garden space and patio for soaking up the sunshine in good weather.I would encourage anyone to visit and make an assessment for themselves. Health professionals in our area know the home, and rate very highly.

Mum was here for three years. Unfortunately she now had to go to nursing. Staff here excellent, no job was too much, the cleaners kept mums room clean and tidy. Friendly staff, we were made to feel like family here. Can the carer look after your Jeff (rabbit) and the team leader, don't have too much

The care home was recommended by our social service provider, of which I had a look around to see what it was like for respite care for my sister, who has dementia.
She spent Christmas week there.
I found the care home clean, staff friendly atmosphere happy nothing too much trouble.
She enjoyed
it so much she didn't want to come home. A good result should we want to use again.

My sister is treated with care, dignity, kindness and respect by the staff at Bradwell Court Residential Care Home, he physical, mental and spiritual needs are fulfilled. She has told me she feels lucky to be well looked after and has good food. The home is always very clean and comfortable. Lots of
fun for the residents this December, my sister was 90 on the 2nd of December and the residents were entertained by The Salvation Army. December 13th was party day for residents and visitors, we had a great time. I have no complaints and am very happy with all.

If you are coming to stay on respite for a few weeks or just require residential support only and you have very few medical conditions and need a bit of a rest then this place in my view would be good. When you visit here visit all the floors is my tip. If your person has dementia then consider this
home carefully and ask questions (tips on dementia UK/Alzheimer's society) Visit a lot of homes that say they offer dementia care and compare.
If you do want a really excellent/compassionate understanding of dementia or have more complex conditions/medical that require a bit more care then this home does not have a nurse on-site and the GP practice support could be better in my view. The home could be much more proactive in identifying potential problems particularly if you cannot visit regularly instead of relying on family to bring up issues. Communication face-to-face could be much better in that area. We have since moved our person as their needs were not met by this home.

Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Barony Lodge Residential Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you feel your loved one's needs were not fully met. As a residential care home, while we don't have on-site nurses, which is very typical of residential care homes, our highly skilled care team works very closely in partnership with our local district nursing team and external healthcare professionals to ensure residents receive the correct medical support for their very individual needs. We are passionate about the way we communicate and work with loved ones and thank you for your comments, which will help us to continually improve. We absolutely agree with your advice to visit multiple homes and ask questions, as finding the right care home is so important and we actively encourage potential residents and their loved ones to speak to not only our team but our residents too, to get a complete and very transparent picture of life at Barony Lodge. We wish you and your loved one all the best in their new home.

Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home

from Dawn R (Daughter of Resident) published on 9 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum has been a resident in Upton Dene since January this year.
She is like a new woman!
She's gone up 2 dress sizes (and is costing me a bloody fortune), could I be happier? Absolutely not!!
From the minute you walk in, you are greeted by two members of staff, who always have a smile.
The two
managers on Mum's floor (the dementia floor), are absolutely amazing, as are all the fabulous carers, far too many to name, but I do have my faves!
Obviously, one particular staff member has always been my 'go to' as she was the first person we met, when we turned up, unannounced, to view the facilities.
There are daily activities, trips out, entertainment weekly, some of which I've been lucky enough to enjoy with Mum.
My only question is, is there room for me?

Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home

It's lovely to hear how you feel welcomed by our team and appreciate the efforts of the staff. It's lovely that you've been able to join in with some of the activities and entertainment with your mum - it really speaks to the family atmosphere we strive to create. We'll pass your kind words along to the team, thank you for sharing such positive feedback.

Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home

from Z P (Stepdaughter of Resident) published on 2 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

We were very pleased to be directed towards Upton Dene as a home for my stepmother.
As she had not visited it previously, the aesthetics of the home were important to us and we knew they would be to her, initially, as well.
It feels like a hotel on arrival and has a large and welcoming plush area
which adds to the appeal.
She has settled well and we are happy with the care she is receiving there. She has a lovely good-sized room, which she is happy with.
We believe they try very hard at Upton Dene to bring activities which stimulate and entertain the residents on a weekly basis, there are plenty of varying things on offer to suit different interests.
Sometimes the communication could be improved, but the receptionists send emails to the right department for us and will often respond to questions and queries we may have.
We don't live locally and so it does make it more difficult for us as we cannot visit her personally, but we do feel content that she is receiving the attention she needs.

Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home

Thank you for such a wonderful review for Upton Dene, the team will be very proud to read your kind words. By far the best care home after checking out many for Mum. Dad was also accepted so he could have a decent place to pass and spend his final days. Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My wife was a resident at Barony Lodge Residential Care Home for two years and being a frequent visitor myself, got to know the staff well during this time. They were all focused and professional and happy. The food was excellent and I made sure I was always in time for tea and the cook's wonderful
cakes and sponges. Activities were well organised and regular. Singsongs were a favourite but sometimes I think I was the only one singing but with an audience.
Furnishings are comfortable throughout the building. Sadly my wife passed away in September but I know that her time spent at the Barony were happy and comfortable and for that I will be eternally grateful to all the staff involved.

Mum has been a resident for over 12 months during which time I have been very happy with her care and the facilities at Upton Dene which far exceed what I have seen elsewhere. All the staff are friendly, attentive and caring. There is a good routine with plenty of flexibility for individual needs. Activities
are varied and of a good standard with plenty of external agencies and individuals for extra interest and stimulation. The gardens are kept beautifully. Meals on the whole are very good and with a little more variety would be excellent.
Thank you for all you do!

We were so fortunate to find Bradwell Court as a home for our mum when she became unable to continue living independently. From day one we were all made to feel part of the Bradwell Court family and the care provided has always been excellent, warm and person centred.
We always felt listened to, informed
and our opinions valued by wonderful staff at all levels. At difficult times communication was prompt and served to allay any anxiety. Decisions were jointly made involving our mum and always in her best interest.
Every member of Bradwell Court is key to it achieving the best for its residents. There have been many examples of staff going above and beyond to maintain Mum's comfort, safety and dignity.
We feel very grateful for the kindness and understanding experienced during the time Mum lived at Bradwell and particularly the skill and compassion given at the end of her life.
