New Bassett House Care Home

from Karen C (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 June 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I have to congratulate all staff and particularly the manager who have created a wonderful warm homely environment for the residents at New Bassett House. My father came here for respite initially due to dementia and I was thrilled that he settled in almost overnight. He is now a full-time resident
and loving every day. The change in him is wonderful to see. Staff are always helpful and friendly and my observations are the residents are treated with kindness and care. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with fitted furniture and wash facilities in each room. The cleanliness of the home is as good as it gets. There is pride amongst the staff who go the extra mile to present a lovely clean home. Food is excellent too served in the dining room to such a good standard my dad thinks he's in a hotel.
New Bassett house is a lovely safe environment and I thoroughly recommend the manager and her team if you are looking for full-time care.

There are not enough words to relate the love, care, professionalism and support of the staff at this amazing centre.
My mum-in-law was a resident for nearly seven years, she was looked after as part of their family. All the staff are dementia trained and every aspect of care/activities of daily living
were thoroughly discussed with Mum and her family. Dementia is a challenging and cruel disease, it takes your loved one from you, mentally and physically. Symptoms/behaviours and needs change as the disease progresses, every step of the way, we were supported by the manager and staff. Our mum was loved and cared for with respect and appropriate guidance to keep her safe during such a vulnerable time.
We will remain forever grateful, it was a privilege to have our mum in such a wonderful place.

New Bassett House Care Home

from T W (Daughter of Resident) published on 6 February 2024

My mother was admitted to New Bassett House at the end of December. We were informed that they would take her knowing she had her diagnosis of dementia. Her health had deteriorated over the last two weeks and has soon as this happened the manager wanted mum out of there! She was portrayed to be a trouble
maker. It seems the manager just wants people in there who just sit in their chairs all day and doesn’t like them to walk around. No activities took place when we paid visits even though they are advertised on a white board! Some of the care staff have been fantastic with mum, they showed compassion at all times and treated mum with respect. The manager needs to look at how to run a care home properly and not get rid of service users because they are agitated and just need calming down. Mum's clothes were put back in her wardrobe dirty and had to be taken out to be washed. Not good enough when she was paying for her care!

My mother was admitted under very sad circumstances. The staff are outstanding empathetic and caring individuals who all work as a team to provide care that is exceptional. The extraordinary staff support not only residents but also families through a very emotional time. The staff go above and beyond
to provide a welcoming caring environment for the residents. Staff are always on hand when needed. All staff are friendly and approachable you are kept up to date with information. The cook personally comes around and asks residents what they want for lunch tea etc giving lots of choice to residents. I would highly recommend the facility. I am and always be very grateful to the amazing staff.

Exceptional care given to my elderly mother who was admitted after a nasty fall at home. The care given by the staff was outstanding. Communication was excellent. Staff work incredibly hard to support residents and their families. I would highly recommend the facility. I will be forever grateful to
the staff for all their kindness.

My nana has now been at Oakland’s a couple of months. She started as a respite resident and was lucky enough to get a permanent place.
My nana was reluctant to go into a home, but is so happy at Oakland’s. Much happier than when she was at home. She praises the staff, the food and has made friends.
My nana always looks immaculate, and the staff are always so friendly.
I highly recommend this home.

Thomas College House

My Dad has spent just over three years in the outstanding care of the staff at Thomas College. I cannot thank them enough for the kindness, dignity and respect they have shown my father, right up until his recent, sad death. He has been a very content and happy resident in his home with you all. I too
have been extremely happy with the high level of care and support you have given him. You have all been amazing and some of you, I will miss seeing now as you have become friends and not just my dad's carers. It's a bit early for me yet to book a room, but I would not hesitate to highly recommend this amazing care home. Keep up the fabulous work and care you give. With the greatest appreciation and thanks.

The staff at Thomas Colledge are fantastic; they really care about the residents they work with. My father made amazing physical and emotional progress when he stayed there for a few weeks of rehab following an unfortunate stay in the hospital, which had resulted in a complete change in his mobility.
They worked hard to improve his spirits and get him walking again. They also took time to follow up on his return home to ensure that he had the right facilities and could cope. I can’t thank them enough.

Oakland Village & Community Care Centre

from BarbaraC (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 31 December 2019
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mom-in-law has just passed away in Oaklands after living there as one of the first residents in the beautiful apartments and then when her Alzheimer’s became too difficult for us to manage, she became a resident in the care facility.
We have to thank all the staff in all areas for the care and love
they have shown to my mom-in-law since she moved in but especially for the care and absolute devotion all the staff have shown in her last months here up until her death on the 11th December 2019. Mom reached the fantastic age of 102 on the 24th November due, in part, to the dedication of all the staff.
We also have to thank them for their care and sympathy on her last days to my husband and I. We could not have asked for more help in our grief than the staff have given us and our family. To be honest, the adjectives wonderful, marvellous, devoted, caring etc are not good enough for them and we have no words to express our gratitude for the way they have looked after Mom. Thank you all.

My 86 year old Mum spent several weeks here for rehabilitation following surgery to her hip. The facilities are excellent and everywhere is immaculately clean. Whenever we visited there were always carers in the lounge interacting with the residents. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable. This
centre is a benchmark for how care homes should be. My Mum thrived here.

I want to say a huge 'thank you' to the care workers and indeed everyone who works there for their true dedication, care, love, and patience. My sister lived there for 4 years and passed away on 4th November 2018 peacefully and with the members of staff holding her hand. They have allowed her funeral
to leave from Staveley Centre which was her “home” and to have the tea after it meant so much to us. I will miss all of you-you have become part of my family, you are truly fantastic. I couldn’t finish without mentioning the home itself it is clean, spacious, peaceful and homely. Again, thank you so much.

This was our first visit to Oakland and the staff were amazing - many going out of their way to help us to help my mother who has recently been diagnosed with combination dementia.

I would like to personally thank the Estate Manager who went out of his way to show us around the facility and the

receptionist who was amazingly kind and helpful.

My parents live nearby but had never had the courage to walk into the village. The experience they had with the kindness and attention to detail shown by ALL the staff but particularly the estate manager and receptionist which has encouraged them to come again - thank you.

Reply from Chris Betts, Service Manager at Oakland Village & Community Care Centre

Thank you for such wonderful feedback. We are very proud of the service provided by all the staff who work at Oakland.

My father was referred to Basset House after suffering from a chest infection, he wasn't offered any alternative or was any explanation forthcoming about his options.

Contact with Basset house is impossible, they simply do not answer the telephone and any other form of communication is simply not

an option. Once only once have I managed to talk to a member of staff who was very helpful but for the last three days despite leaving messages and demanding a situational assessment have received absolutely no communication, sorry but when you live so far away this is simply not acceptable.
