Not being cleaned, hair matted and filthy. When I have enquired apparently lots of agency staff this is still not acceptable. My mother's teeth went missing and all care staff could do when we asked was to shrug shoulders. My mother is not being treated with dignity. Yes I have complained and will continue
to.

My mother-in-law has been in Simonsfield since September 2024, initially as respite due to her needing 24 hour care. This was extended and is now permenant. She is in better health and her demeanour is really good since she arrived at Simonsfield. She is completely deaf and obviously has difficulty
communicating with other people but the staff are really good and like us use a whiteboard and marker to write down whatever we want to say. The meals are served in a dedicated dining room and she is encouraged to go in there for her meals which she tells us are very good. Any health issues are picked up on and she is in good health and is happy in her comfortable room.

Simonsfield Care Home

from D B (Great Great-Niece of Resident) published on 28 January 2025

My Great Great Auntie (GGA) has moved away from Simonsfield's setting a few months into 2024, and the move couldn't have proved more perfect. From 2020, until she left in 2024 my GGA was inside her room 24/7. She ate all 3 meals inside her room, placed into her chair, and left facing a wall with her
TV to the side of her. When asked if she ever attended the lounge, my family where informed that apparently my GGA had told the staff she didn't like it - my GGA has lost all forms of communication.. but had an overnight miracle to tell the staff her thoughts and feelings. Fast forward to now, in her new setting. She is much brighter, alert, and visibly happy. She still has no solid form of communication, but is saying words more frequently which match up to the conversation going on around her. Each day she is placed into a posture-supporting chair and into a communal space (lounge, dining room, corridor) and has constant interaction. The move couldn't have made a more positive change!

Reply from Debbie Smith, Manager at Simonsfield Care Home

Thankyou for your feedback we appreciate all feedback to learn from it, the person was moved to nursing care as a Residential setting was not meeting the persons needs, as your GGA needs required more professional input, I am very pleased your GGA is thriving in a more appropriate setting for her care needs.

The staff at Halton View were wonderful with my dad. He was there from April to his death in July and I cannot fault any of the staff there. They were always looking after him and were very considerate to his needs. They were always very friendly to me when I visited dad every day. Towards the end I
was there all the time and they fed me, which they didn't have to do and they gave me a bed for me to have a little nap as they could see I was extremely tired.
Thank you to all the staff there.

My dear Mum was looked after in the Springwood Dementia Unit for nearly 4 years. I cannot speak highly enough of Simonsfield, every member of the lovely staff from the manager, catering, housekeeping, admin and carers was polite, friendly, professional, competent and caring, not just to Mum, but to
all of Mum's family and friends. I certainly saw Mum thrive whilst in the care of this wonderful care home, she was loved, supported and treated with respect and dignity and she was happy. Thank you all so much for the care, joy and laughter. Simonsfield is a truly exceptional care home.

It was difficult to find a residential home for Mum close to where we live, but we were very fortunate to get a place at Simonsfield. Mum settled in very well and was well looked after by the staff. I always found the staff to be helpful and caring and there were lots of activities for Mum to take part
in if she wanted to. It was a great help to the family to know she was being well looked after.

Since my Mother's admission from hospital to Aaron Court in March to her being almost ready to go home, my Mother's care has been exemplary, even when my Mother was very challenging to deal with in the early days of her stay. As my Mother has improved, the staff have fully encouraged her to move about
and become involved with activities around the home.
From a family perspective, it has been reassuring to see and talk to Mother's carers at all levels including management, who have all been nice, caring people who, without exception, all made time to see me and discuss anything. This put my mind to rest in so many ways.
I have never seen my Mother eat so much before, as the food has been superb from what I have seen and my Mother told me. The portions were perfect - my Mother hates waste and so her portions were just right for her every time.
I cannot speak more highly and thank everyone.

My frail Dad who has dementia was attacked by another resident while in this place. He suffered terrible facial injuries. A week after that incident my dad fell and fractured his pelvis in 2 places. All unwitnessed!
CQC, social services and the police are all involved. I would not recommend this home
to any family. This place has had three managers in the last 12 months and rates inadequate with the CQC, which it is just deserved.

Reply from Ellen Sharp, CRO at Halton View

We are saddened to hear that your experience at our care home hasn't been the positive experience we would like it to be, and would like to reassure you that we take all complaints seriously. With regards to the incident mentioned, the police did attend the home and chose not to take any further action against either of the people involved. It was reported to the safeguarding team & social services, who also chose not to take any further action and closed the incident. At a later date your dad unfortunately had an unwitnessed fall, we sought medical assistance that found no obvious injury. However when staff identified further concerns, we arranged for him to attend hospital, where he was correctly diagnosed and put the appropriate treatment in place. The health and wellbeing of all the people cared for in our home is of paramount importance to us and we would like to assure you of our best intentions. Our door is always open should you wish to discuss your Father's care further.

Mother is happy and flourishing in the environment of Aaron Court. All personal care taken care of very well. The home is bright and pleasant. Staff are caring and take the time to spend time with each resident. They genuinely care and often go the extra mile. Residents would benefit from an activity
when feeling restless.

Mum passed away at the above care home. Her final month was not pleasant but the staff were lovely and caring all the way through. Before this, she had lived at the care home for about 12 months. All the staff said what a remarkable lady she was and were genuinely upset when she passed.

Simonsfield Care Home

from Mark G (Son of Resident) published on 20 May 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My late mother’s 18-19 month stay at Simonsfield was truly happy, enjoyable and positive. She was treated as an individual and after a few weeks her home of 60 years in Runcorn was not ‘home’ any more, rather her room at the ‘holiday home’ that was Simonsfield, where she received such top-quality care
and many visits from family and friends which meant so much.
Mum loved the social life at Simonsfield, being involved in baking and bingo, enjoying the singalongs, coffee mornings, Summer Fayres and Christmas parties. Social connectivity was crucial for Mum’s happiness and well-being, her pleasure at sitting in the big lounge room with other residents watching the large TV screen and chatting, laughing and sharing experiences was very apparent.
Mum felt a special bonding with the care staff on the Springwood corridor, who she always said were ‘so kind to me’ and ‘so good to an old woman’- so thank you Simonsfield, you really do set the standard for top-class residential and dementia care.

Reply from Debbie Smith, Manager at Simonsfield Care Home

Thank you so much Mark for your wonderful comments and please know that your mother was an absolute joy to care for and to be allowed to be part of her life for both the staff and other residents who became her friends. She will be missed very much and please don't be a stranger. We would love for you to come back and visit any time and join in our events or just to come and see us. When we lose someone, we always miss the families as much as the resident as everyone has become part of the Simonsfield family. Please don't forget us and you are welcome any time.

I'd just like to say how fortunate we are to have Simonsfields to care for our mum. From the minute you enter you can see the love, care and dignity that all the staff give to the residents. What a wonderful place this is with such a variety of activities throughout the month be it bingo, crafts, dominos
or knitting. Also, have singers or choirs coming in to entertain the residents too which my mum loves. The meals service is first class and can be changed to suit the persons needs. Special mention to the cleaning staff who work to keep the home spotless. Everyone together makes my mum's stay and our visits so pleasing. Thank you all.
