My partner stayed here in January and March 2025. He has done nothing but praise the staff and facility and as a person who would previously refuse to stay in a home I am delighted that he says he would go back at any time. Staff and cleanliness are second to none.

Bannatyne Lodge Care Home

from Andrew L (Son of Resident) published on 2 April 2025

My 90yr old father had a fall at home and was badly shaken. Respite care was suggested and as he lived in Peterlee and the home was next to his doctors we contacted Bannatyne Lodge. Best call we ever made. From the moment we initially rang to enquire, to the reception of my father, to the time we left
we were treated with complete professionalism that could not be faulted. My father ended up staying just over three weeks and he really enjoyed his time there. The food was top quality and plentiful. The staff from the manager down to the cleaners were a great friendly bunch of people. Many had been there 10+ years and a couple over 20+ years, which spoke volumes about the home as an employer. The activities were gentle but fun with encouragement to join in, my father enjoyed the bingo, dominos and even the wine tasting! Over the three weeks he regained his strength, at all times he was encouraged by the staff. He is now home but knows where to go if he wants a weeks R&R. 5* treatment.

Experience first class from the start. Staff absolutely fantastic and so reassuring in helping deal with a very emotional and stressful transition into care. First morning made a lot easier by joining in with weekly coffee morning ( delicious home baking), and meeting staff and residents in informal
social atmosphere. All staff are professional , courteous and helpful and treat residents with dignity and respect. They work hard to create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere with lots of smiles and good humour. My mam is living a full and active life- both within the home where a great range of activities and interests are promoted- and outside in the community, going to church and out for coffee with other residents. She has made friends and staff reorganised the dining room so that they could sit together for meals which was very special .Visitors always welcome and staff will transfer calls to a mobile so I can speak to Mam at any time .Great management and staff team. Highly recommend.

We put our mum into this care home, as it was close to all immediate family, although the bedrooms weren't the best mum had the best care, we got mum into this home on Christmas Eve in 2023 when she was really poorly and at the point of end of life. Since mum being admitted into Pelton Grange she had
gone from strength to strength mum thoroughly enjoyed attending of all the activities within the home, and we are a family need to acknowledge the activities coordinator to be outstanding in her job role, the bedrooms within the home need to be updated and if possible ensuite, but let us say thank you for the love and care mum was given.

My dad was a resident for two years until he passed away in November. The staff are really friendly and always made us feel welcome and included in everything. The activities that's run are amazing as are the occasion days and parties.
My dad was treated with respect, high level of care and like a
member of one big family which meant we could sleep at night. We never once worried about him being looked after.
As a family, it meant so much to us for him to return to the home at end of life so we could spend time with him alone.
The home isn't clinical or old fashioned it's like home from home.
The staff are really amazing people.

Staff are always on hand to help and are kind, cheerful and smiley. They do their best to make sure that all needs of the residents are tended to.
The facilities are spot on and are adapted for each resident based on their needs.
The only thing that my nanna has issues with is the food as she is
very fussy. She cannot eat a lot and much prefers smaller portions. However, this being said, if she does not fancy anything on the menu, they will endeavour to make her a sandwich or some soup. This is primarily her biggest problem/issue but staff do try their best to cater for her. It isn't their fault that she is so picky!

We really can't thank the wonderful staff at Pelton Grange enough, for the way in which they have lovingly and diligently cared for my dear dad in his last 7 months of life. The personal attention afforded to Dad has made the traumatic transition to a care home so much easier for all our family. His
smiles and humour throughout his time at the home were indeed testament to the contentment he felt in knowing how extremely well cared for, and indeed loved, he was by all the amazing staff. This is a home that is dedicated to giving the best of attention to our loved ones, and offering friendly warmth to family members on their visits. Their hard work and commitment to their vocation is to be applauded.

The activities coordinator outstanding. The management not so, staff work hard looking after residents, attitudes towards them from some senior staff could be improved. Cook made lovely cakes/birthday cakes. On more than one occasion - Medication in dressing-gown pocket. Dressed inappropriately. Unattended.
Soiled clothing not bagged in washing bag. Commode not emptied. Same juice in jug for more than one day. Not notified if receiving treatment for wounds. Sitting alone distressed. On one occasion - Asleep, head resting on dining room table. Fish and chip dinner wrapped in pillowcase in laundry bag. Had itching rash, unexplained.

We are really pleased to read that you think that our activity coordinator is outstanding, providing meaningful engagement for our residents is very important to us. To recognise the hard work of our staff is greatly appreciated. We are however saddened to hear that your experience at our care home hasn't been the positive one we would like it to be, and would like to reassure you that we take all complaints seriously. The health and wellbeing of all the people that are cared for in our home is of paramount importance to us and we take pride in all aspects of the care we provide. Please be assured that we take all concerns seriously and aim to use feedback in a positive manner to continuously improve our service and care to our residents, your concerns and feelings will be shared with the team. We have an open-door policy and we would always encourage relatives to contact the home if they have any concerns so that we can assist in resolving them immediately.

Very caring staff who look well after people and seem to genuinely care. Parents are very happy there since moving in. Staff friendly with visitors to the home. The activities lady is very good. Lots of different things to do during week but lacks activities on the weekend. Rooms could do a bit of modernisation
with laminate or vinyl flooring down rather than carpet. Would be nice for visitors to be able to get tea/coffee while in seeing relatives. The food looks lovely and portion sizes seem decent.

My father was admitted to Bannatyne Lodge for palliative care. My mother wanted to be with him so we arranged for a two-week respite care with the view that my mother could decide whether she wanted to stay permanently. Within three days my mother made it clear she wanted to stay. She liked her room,
the staff was so caring, and she liked the food and the fact that the staff introduced her to other ladies in the dining room. Her decision says it all - Bannatyne Lodge has given me peace of mind that my mother is happy and my Father is receiving excellent end-of-life care.
