My mother has been a resident of Coed Craig for 18 months and has settled in well given she had lived independently until her admission.
The care she receives is excellent and she has a good rapport with all staff who seem to enjoy talking to her and having a laugh when appropriate. Her room is always
clean and tidy thanks to the staff, and her clothes are laundered regularly and I believe my mother gets support to pick appropriate clothing.
The choice of food is good and my mother has maintained her weight so she must be enjoying the food as well.
My brother and I visit the home regularly and we have a good relationship with the staff and are able to have a two way conversation if there are issues to be raised or addressed.

Reply from Karen Stanley, Home Manager at Coed Craig

I am pleased that your mother has settled well at Coed Craig. As a team we try to ensure all our residents feel at home and that they and their families can speak openly and honestly about the care they receive.

My husband is happy at Coed Craig considering his dementia diagnosis. However, I do have one niggle that I would like to mention. I feel that the interior of the building could do with a spruce up, it is looking very dated. Considering the costs of residents care, it would be good if some of the cost
was shown in the decor. Surely, when a settling looks tired and weary it will have a negative effect upon the residents. Surroundings matter as does care.

Reply from Karen Stanley, Home Manager at Coed Craig

I am pleased to hear that your husband is happy at Coed Craig, as that is really important to the whole team. Regarding the interior, we have recently had new ensuites throughout and a new lift. We are now starting to do some painting and updating of the communal areas, and hope that you will start to see the improvements as you visit.

My father-in-law receives excellent care at Coed Craig. All the staff are very helpful and pleasant, approachable and friendly. Since my father-in-law has been at Coed Craig, he has totally immersed himself in the activities arranged and he is now mixing more with other residents.
The care and attention
received is very good and staff take time to interact and chat with him.

Reply from Karen Stanley, Home Manager at Coed Craig

Thank you for your positive feedback for the care your father-in-law is receiving. Staff endeavour to make everyone's life, while living at Coed Craig, the best it can be and I am so pleased he feels settled enough to join in activities when he chooses.

Coed Craig has a welcoming friendly atmosphere with lots of activities. However, it's difficult to be included in these when you have severe dementia and are non-mobile. The staff do their best to support everyone but it's difficult for them as they are often fully stretched dealing with residents who
need two-handed care. This leaves others alone at times.

Reply from Karen Stanley, Home Manager at Coed Craig

Thank you for review, we have a new activities co-ordinator in place, and they are looking into a variety of different activities to accommodate residents with severe dementia. If you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

My mother has been in Coed Craig now for 2 years she has settled down very well and is looked after very well. The room has an en-suite which was replaced last year so is nice and modern and is a fair size with a lovely view of the garden and the sea in the distance.
The home is bright and light and
tastefully decorated.
There is a large garden with a very large fish pond for the residents to sit out in.
The food at the home is well cooked and looks appetising and my mum has gained weight while living here.
The activities the home arrange are varied and fun for the residents and they have a minibus which is used for trips out.

The staff take good care of my mother and activities are available to keep her occupied. The food is ok and the staff will accommodate me bringing an occasional curry in for her to eat as a treat to remind her of times gone by. The staff make sure she has eaten sufficiently and will give her the chocolates
we bring in as she doesn't always remember they are in her drawer. All health aspects are monitored and her needs are met.

We are always welcomed into the home. Suitable Covid precautions are taken and acted upon, either to admit us or if we have no test evidence, turned away. Care is good. GPs and hospital appointments are made and an escort is provided. Prescribed medicines are given. Food and entertainment offered to
residents offer variety and interest. Requests for beard trimming and other hygiene tasks are great. The clothing and environment are clean generally.

My father has been a resident at Coed Craig since September 2018 and I cannot fault the kindness and care given by the staff; he was seriously unwell in March 2022 and the love and attention to his needs by the staff were exemplary.
As my father is in the later stages of dementia he cannot/does not
want to participate in all the activities, but he does like the magazine; he loves any music that is laid on and can be seen tapping his hands or feet. He also enjoys the religious aspect of the home, as this was a huge part of his childhood.
Zoom calls, although frequent, during Covid times, were difficult and certainly virtual visiting is not the same for the resident or family (in my opinion).
His room is clean and tidy, the food seems plentiful; the family are always welcome to visit and the manager will discuss any issue.
Coed Craig is ''home'' for my father and the staff are his ''family'' too, so I would like to say a huge thank you to those that care for him.

All the staff are polite and friendly, there are always activities taking place which I feel it is very important to keep minds active and physical well-being.
The home has been extremely accommodating with assistance for my father to attend my mother's funeral and individual visiting of her in a different
care home.

Reply from Karen Stanley, Home Manager at Coed Craig

Coed Craig have been exceptional since Mum had to be moved after care at home became impossible. They have kept us informed at every stage of the induction process and guided us through the difficulties posed by COVID-19. In the following 6 months, mum has settled into her new home and the improvement
is noticeable, both physically and in her level of happiness. The home is always on hand to answer questions we have and their professionalism means we can relax in the knowledge that mum is being cared for in the best place.

My mother went to live in Coed Craig in September last year in the pandemic, such a difficult time for us all as family. The help, care and kindness by the staff and chaplain at Coed Craig has been wonderful. Skype calls and FaceTime has helped us to keep in contact with our scattered family. Can't
comment on some things below because I have had limited access to the home due to the pandemic.

Thank you for your lovely review. I understand how hard it must be for families not being able to see their loved ones but even more so for those who have come in during Covid. Hopefully, restrictions will continue to be lifted and we can welcome people back more freely.

My mum has been a resident at Coed Craig since September 2020 and she did take a few months to settle in. However, we cannot speak highly enough of the care and attention she has received from all the staff, especially during these very difficult times. In particular, and following the introduction
of the family newsletter - Famileo, where all our family and friends can post photos and messages to mum, we have noticed how she now has something to look forward to each week. Well done to the events coordinator for her unique ideas to keep all residents active and busy, such as the Italian week, the pub afternoon, Chinese New Year and very recently, Valentines Day.

My Father was a resident at Coed Craig for only 6 months before he passed away in June 2020. The care he received was of a high standard. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Dad was treated with dignity and was happy at Coed Craig. He passed away peacefully and even the undertaker commented
to me how respectful the staff had been with Dad. Completely trustworthy and a credit to the MHA Carehomes organisation.

Very well run home where residents are treated with dignity and compassion. Food, atmosphere, and staff seem genuinely happy which translates to how they deal with residents. Quite a few staff have been there years which is always a good sign. Resident Chaplin on duty three days per week and services
on a Wednesday morning and Sunday afternoon which are well attended.

Communication needs to be improved. Manager and deputy manager need to be far more visible. Shortage of staff is apparent and the turnover of staff is an issue that needs to be addressed. I was informed that no senior carer was on duty overnight (15/8/19). Is this acceptable? The newly appointed activities
organiser is to be congratulated on embarking on a much-improved programme. The chaplain is missed.

My aunt recently passed away at Coed Craig. It was the best thing being transferred back there rather than a community hospital. The staff were absolutely brilliant. She received first class care, 24 hours a day. They went above and beyond their call of duty. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They
genuinely loved and cared for her as if she was a member of their family.

My 92yr old mum, who suffered from dementia, passed away on 29th Sept 2018 at Coed Craig. She had been a resident there since February 2018 and throughout that time, I, as her daughter, cannot speak highly enough of the love, care and attention, respect and dignity she received from everyone involved
in her care there, especially during her end of life care when the decision was taken for Mum to remain at Coed Craig rather than be taken into hospital.
Coed Craig is run to a very high standard. The rooms are clean and well maintained, as is the entire home itself. The food is excellent and takes into account individual needs. Mum was always nicely turned out as are all the residents, personal hygiene is well taken care of. Medical records are well documented and family are always kept informed of any health issues as and when they may arise.
I would not hesitate to recommend Coed Craig, it was a great comfort to me knowing that Mum was being loved and so well cared for there by everyone.

My aunt was a resident for six years and her care was exemplary. The very same staff were there for all of those years which to me says what a well run and happy place it is. The management ensures that all the records and procedures are up to date. My aunt went into Coed Craig in a quite poor condition
and from that time she has thrived in a pleasant and happy atmosphere which as her immediate next of kind, gave me peace of mind knowing she could not be better cared for.
