My mum decided to move to Epworth Grange after a fall at home impacted her mobility and confidence. Her choice was based on good reports from friends. Whilst it has been a momentous move for someone who valued her independence so highly, she has started to settle. This is largely due to the truly caring
staff and the well run efficiency of Epworth Grange. She appreciates the activities though wishes there was more at weekends. Her family and friends visit frequently and can see that she is safe and well looked after.

The care home has been phenomenal and has cared for my Grandma. They put her first and ensure that she is fed, clean and safe. At no point have I or my family been unhappy with the performance and support offered by the home. I would recommend this care home to anyone who needs a place for Alzheimer's
patients. I am so happy that my Grandma is there and being looked after by the wonderful staff and team. The security and support offered have improved my mental health and anxiety around my grandma due to how much support is offered.

MHA Handsworth is quite honestly the most homely of care homes. Spacious dining room, lounge, new hair salon and library supplemented by a beautiful garden. However the outstanding feature is the amazing team who work there. They are so kind, caring and really go the extra mile for the residents.
My
father has been there over two and a half years and we honestly think he couldn't be anywhere better. We would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone needing care for their family or friends.

Handsworth

from Jaqui S (Sister of Resident) published on 26 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

The outstanding care and love that my sister received whilst having respite care at Handsworth was just wonderful. She has come home with so many memories of a lovely stay, the enjoyment of the activities, her choice of food from a delicious menu and overall the time spent with the staff and other residents.
She was nervous to stay and I was nervous to leave her but within minutes of taking her there she was smiling and chatting away to staff and I just felt so confident and trusting of her care. She looked so happy and cared for when I picked her up. It was obvious that to the staff nothing was too much trouble. The lovely outcome is our collective trust in Handsworth and the knowledge that my sister is happy to stay again, which means I can be sure of having respite breaks in the future. I wouldn't mind a stay at Handsworth myself! Huge thanks to everybody involved in her care.

Reply from Julia Ronan, Home Manager at Handsworth

Thank you to all the staff at Handsworth Care Home for looking after my Mum with such kindness. I have felt that every one of you has worked beyond what is expected in providing care for my Mum. The surroundings have always been pleasant, clean and warm. Mum has always looked well dressed and well looked
after. I have always felt that she has been in very safe and caring hands. There were plenty of activities going on and many caring hands to help her. She has been treated with dignity at a very difficult time in her life. Thanks again.

A miserable, dour atmosphere with miserable, dour carers (with a few exceptions). No friendly hellos or goodbyes when you enter the building. One day when I called unexpectedly I found my relative still in bed at 11.30am with no food or drink and by 1.15 I had to go out to buy some.
A carton of opened
fruit juice was left by the chair for 7 days, items were left out of my relative's reach. Left without glasses or teeth. Left slumped like a sack of flour in their chair, commode seat left dirty one day and used toilet paper in it.
Also I felt some of my concerns were ignored, ie. constantly leaving chocolate biscuits in room when people had been told five times please don't give chocolate.
Maybe if your relative is immobile and needs more time spent with them and compassion shown then give this place a miss.
My only regret is ever leaving my relative in this place. They are now in a different care home and the difference between them is like night and day.

A truly amazing care home where my Mother and now my Father received/receive an outstanding level of care. All the staff (carers, managers, admin, domestic, chaplains, and caretakers) are friendly, approachable, professional and supportive. They go above and beyond the call of duty to provide my parents
and our family the care and support to meet our needs and more. We are so very, very grateful.

The care provided to my parents is exceptional. The staff are caring and make sure that they know each individual and their needs and preferences.
The manager, her senior team, admin staff, nurses, carers, kitchen and laundry and cleaning staff are invaluable friendly and professional. The music and
activities are an integral part of life at Laurel Court.

Both my parents have been cared for at Laurel Court. Sadly Mum passed away in August this year. The staff could not have done more for her - giving her wonderful care for the last 18 months of her life - she felt loved and at home there. Dad is still there- treated with so much care, respect and understanding.
It truly is a wonderful place, the care from the staff extends to the family of their residents too.
Simply a really caring place and it puts our minds at rest knowing the level of care our dad is getting.

Everything at Laurel Port is excellent, the love and care shine through. It can never be as good as your own home but it runs it a close second. My husband was happy and content here.
When he was dying, the staff really looked after him, myself and my son.

My dad after spending some time in hospital after another fall decided he was too scared to return home. After visiting Laurel Court we moved him in and we are so happy that we found it.
The room was spacious, quiet, very clean at all times and had an ensuite shower room. But it was the staff who really
makes Laurel Court exceptional. They are professional, attentive, dedicated and very kind. They treat the residents with respect and go above and beyond taking care of their well-being. There seem to be varied activities every day which they encouraged Dad to join in with! Sadly my dad was only there for a few months but at the end of his life, Dad was treated with such care and kindness.

There are seriously not enough stars to rate the phenomenal care the staff and the facilities Handsworth provide for their residents. Trying to find the perfect home for my friend was a daunting task until I contacted Handsworth, from initial contact to enquire regarding a room to my friend being welcomed
into Handsworth was seamless, the atmosphere in Handsworth is homely, safe and loving. To leave a lifetime home to begin a new life in a new home is a heart-wrenching decision to make, but all the staff have made my friend feel at home and are encouraging him to enjoy the start of his new adventure in life, I cannot begin to thank you all enough for your meticulous attention, outstanding care, support and love shown to my friend, his friends and family, you are all an absolute credit to Handsworth and beautiful people, much love.

My Mum went into Epworth Grange after a fall. However, she did find it very difficult to settle at first but the staff was very supportive, not only to her but also to myself, as my Mum had been living with my husband and me before transitioning to E.G. The Chaplain there, was so helpful to us and Mum
become happier and settled in making friends.

Choosing the right home for your relative is a stressful and very emotional experience. However, within minutes of meeting the team at Epworth Grange many of our fears and anxieties were soothed and from day 1 of moving in they have done nothing but exceed expectations. You're cared for as a family
not just the resident. Nothing was too much trouble on moving-in day. The things you don't know about are the volunteer readers who sit in the room, the compassion that you hear from the team when providing care (even when they don't know you're there), the changes they make to meals to reduce stress at mealtimes, the comforter dolls and the staff who take the time to keep someone company when they can. The home is always clean, and brews and snacks are plentiful. The 2 resident cats give an extra homely feel.

My mother has lived at Epworth Grange for the past 18 months. Her is probably a familiar story. Living alone at home, an accident, hospital, an intermediate care facility; and then acknowledgement that home was no longer a safe option. We did our research and after a visit, decided that Epworth Grange
was the most suitable option. We have never regretted this decision. My mother has been shown nothing but kindness and consideration from day one. The entire staff, including management, are approachable, patient and good humoured. The public areas of the home are always clean and uncluttered and her room is cleaned on a regular basis.
