The rooms downstairs are old, dated and uninviting. My mum was only there for 2 weeks, the senior care assistant was the most helpful and the night downstairs night staff would rather be sat looking at their phones than helping residents who are shouting for help. Every time we visited, some of Mum's
clothes were missing or there were ones in her wardrobe that didn't belong to her. When we moved Mum to a new place, the manageress didn't even have the courtesy to come out of her office to say goodbye.

Reply from Clare Thinnesen, Manager at Stilecroft Residential Home

Hi Marie, If I can remember rightly I finished work early on New Year's Eve and I'm sorry I did not get the chance to say goodbye. I'm pleased you felt the senior was helpful, this is good to feedback. Staff being on phones can be misunderstood, staff use handheld devices (mobiles) to document care given. I can only apologise if you have not understood this, it can look like they are on mobile phones. With regards to your mother's clothes, we do suggest for new residents that family ensure that their names are on the clothes to prevent situations like this from happening. If you are missing any clothes please let me know and I will speak to the laundry department. We are currently working on updating the home and have recently had designers in to plan the new design, starting with the bottom unit, this is to ensure the home is welcoming to all residents and visitors. Thank you for your review and if you require further correspondence, please contact Stilecroft Residential Home.

My mam has had dementia for a few years but began to decline quite rapidly. After a stay in the hospital, she was discharged to assess to Stilecroft. Hardest thing ever to put your mam in a home.
Took a while for us all to get used to it. The staff work hard, very hard. The home is clean and warm
and the the food looks great. Lots of activities on offer.
We can visit anytime (meal times are protected). Mam's room is nice and warm.
Staff are down to earth and approachable and do a fantastic job.
If we have any concerns we can ring and speak to someone.
Not an easy job to care for someone with dementia, certainly takes a special kind of person.
Thanks so much for coming and going as we please and for letting us help care for Mam when we can.

My mum was discharged from the hospital after 5 months of rehab following a complex ankle break which left her fully dependent and immobile. The 5 months also saw my dad pass away. The staff have been responsive in helping her adapt to new life in residential care and she decided she would stay. She
is beginning to feel more safe and comfortable with most of the staff, the food, her room and the routines but has yet to decide to make use of the activities available. On the whole, I think the staff helped her in settling. Thanks.

My mother got admitted to the home from the hospital for what turned out to be a short stay as she suddenly and sadly passed away start of May 2024. The home knew absolutely nothing about her when she went. We visited my Mum 4 days before her sudden sad passing. She was fast asleep in the conservatory
on the sofa. She was extremely cold and extremely confused. We told the staff she had a history of really bad health related to being cold. We had to ask for a blanket. It took until two days before her sudden sad passing when they eventually got her a strange doctor visit who did not do anything. Someone at the home told the hospital my Mum had a DNR which was completely untrue. My Dad who was next of kin had to speak and convince two hospital consultants not to acknowledge what had been told to them. My Mum had numerous important clothes items lost that held extremely special memories for me and my Dad. My partner had to sort my Mum's room, it was just left. We did not have a good experience of the home at all

Good Afternoon, firstly I'd like to extend my condolences to you and your family in such a difficult time. I am aware of your Mother's difficult admission to Stilecroft, however, I am concerned in relation to the issues raised in your review which the home nor provider are aware of. It would be highly appreciated if you can please make contact with me either via Telephone on 01773 546736 or via email on operations@mpscare.co.uk so I can investigate this matter further.

Went into St Andrews for two weeks respite.
I was well looked after and well fed, staff were courteous and very professional.
The staff made me feel very welcome on arrival. They also made my family very welcome, both on arrival and when they visited. The home was very clean and tidy and I would recommend
this home to others.

Mam who is 94, is very happy there and is well looked after. All the staff are friendly, there always seems to be plenty going on. Dad was also happy there until he died at 96, they cared for him until the end.

My mum has mixed dementia. Since being in Highfield, she has become very settled. The staff are amazing. They treat my mum with a lot of care and love. The home has a lovely, friendly atmosphere, and the staff go above and beyond. My mum has been in three homes, and this is by far the best one. I would
recommend Highfields to anybody. The home is my mum's home, and the staff are family. Communication is excellent, and I know my mum is being cared for and is safe. Well done guys! The activities are excellent too!

What can I say, the staff and management are fantastic, they treat my mum with such care and understanding and she wants for nothing even if when she wakes up early hours wanting toast and a cuppa they do it. After experiencing two bad care homes, my only regret is that I didn't choose this place to
start with, once again thank you for the amazing care you give Mum and I can finally relax knowing she's safe.

During dads short stay he was treated without respect and dignity he was left to waste away. Not meeting his nutritional needs, not providing regular fluids, mobility needs or providing a basic standard of hygiene. He sustained injuries which were extremely distressing. We raised our concerns to the
manager whose reply was ‘you can move him if you’re not happy’ rather than addressing our concerns and reassuring us as a family, a very distressing time for both my dad and his family members. Carers were unprofessional in their communication using inappropriate language and extremely insensitive speech. If I could leave negative stars I would as a dog would not have been allowed to suffer the way my dad did. This is an honest review based on eye witnessing and personal experiences. This organisation seriously needs investigating to prevent unnecessary suffering of vulnerable people.

My father was treated with contempt during the last two months of his life spent unfortunately at this care home. Often left to fend for himself he could not feed himself or drink and was left covered in food and drink. Left with no shoes or socks on, on a cold floor. Was given no dignity staff grappling
with him on the floor just to get him dressed, an activity some staff members even found amusing laughing at my poor dad's plight. These are just a few of the numerous failings that I witnessed during visits. I dare not think about what other atrocities occurred the rest of the time. He was simply left to die. If you care about your loved ones please don't send them here. Concerns were raised with the unempathetic manager who knows she is running a sinking ship. This place needs to be shut down.

Reply from Hannah Marchant, Group Operations Manager at Highfields Nursing Home

We acknowledge the concerns you have raised and we can appreciate that this is a very difficult time for you and your family. We at Highfields Nursing Home always strive to ensure the standard of care and service provided to both residents and relatives is of high quality. We endeavour to address your issues and will be in direct contact to discuss your concerns.

Kindest Regards

What a wonderful care home. My family can't praise them enough. Our mum went in for an assessment as she wasn't managing at home. The care she receives was outstanding. The staff are so caring and friendly, and the whole atmosphere felt like a home-from-home. They made our mum's last days so wonderful.
We would recommend St Andrew's to anyone thinking of a peaceful, friendly, caring home.

My experience within myself as a new starter I only start working at St Andrew's on November, some of the staff are very helpful to show you around they showed me that they care for the job that they are doing. I was also encouraged by the manage, which I appreciate and helping the residents with their
needs and working together as a team, I am looking forward to knowing all the staff, and we can all work together.

My overall impression is that the majority of staff are kind and caring. They take time and trouble to help residents when needed or required. The home is very clean, and the food quality and variety are excellent. On occasions, it was evident that information wasn't being passed on from one carer to
another - I was told several times when I queried something that "no one had told them". This needs to be addressed, but I would still recommend the home to others.

I would just like to say my father in law was not an easy resident as his dementia got worse but Highfields Nursing Home dealt with all his needs he was there for two and half years. They informed me of everything that he was doing. On the 14th of March the manager, who our family think is amazing,
came in as my father in law was in the end of life stage. The management, nurses, carers, even cleaners looked after me as well as my father in law. I've seen death before, but they made my father in law have a comfy one.
