I've had a wonderful time, everyone is so polite and helpful! The food has been very good! Its nice when you go for breakfast, they are busy - but still rushing about, but no bad words, smiles and laughter!! Its been a wonderful time for me, as I hadn't had any holidays for quite a few years - Its the
best I've had!! and I thanks everyone for being busy!! We went to a local town.

We were looking for a care home for our mum who was relocating from North Devon and from the moment that my sister and I walked into the Moat House, we knew this was the place for mum. As we were shown around all the residents we saw were greeted by name with a "hello" and "how are you" and were treated
with respect. We were very lucky that mum actually wanted to be in a care home to be looked after, and have company. All the staff are fantastic, positive, caring and encouraging. With so many activities including outings mums days are full and happy. Mum has compared the Moat House with a warners hotel which is where she will be happily spending the rest of her days! Thank you all.

My mother has been resident at Harrier House for over 2 years and is now 104 years old.
I very much doubt she would have reached this milestone without the care and support she receives at Harrier.
She think of it as home and the staff do all they can to make her feel at home.

Excellent in every way. The staff do everything they can to make life as good as it can be. I was a temporary resident, but was treated equally as well as the permanent residents. The atmosphere was very welcoming and I was treated with dignity and respect at all times. The food was excellent and plentiful.
The choices and variety were to my taste and I think would be to most peoples satisfaction. Every aspect was though of, leisure, activities, laundry, and medical requirements.

My mother moved to CH from hospital for respite care with a view to permanency. Unfortunately she got an infection just before leaving hospital and only survived 2 days. The staff were wonderful. Very caring and nothing was too much trouble for them. I would recommend this home to anyone considering
a home. My sister and I checked 3 homes before choosing CH and what a brilliant decision that was.

The care home has been a lot calmer recently and that's been so good as its helped mums mood to lift. The food has improved with more snacks the cutlery is still dirty at times and the food can be lukewarm - big portions too so there's a lot of waste. Considering the challenges presented by some of
the residents a high level of care is delivered and the staff particularly the regular ones are worth their weight in gold, with personalised attention to mum as an individual. Thank you.

My father has dementia and can be demanding and needing. The staff take it all in their stride, I genuinely believe that all the staff members love and care about my father. All the staff are approachable and very knowledgeable about my fathers care and needs. The home is spotlessly clean and tidy.

We have been so impressed by the facilities and quality of care on all of our visits. It is so reassuring to see our grandma has so many fellow residents they can chat to. Bowood Court Care Home

from A F (Sister of Resident) published on 6 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My husband and I have been regular visitors to Bowood Court Care Home, visiting my sister on the top floor of the building for the past five years. Over this time, there have been many staff and management changes. All upstairs staff are wonderful and very hardworking, as are the rest of the team, e.g.
cleaners, laundry, kitchen staff etc. I haven't yet had the opportunity of meeting the home or care managers as they are relatively new. The care given to my sister is excellent, she appears happy with all members of staff, they care for her with respect and dignity. The food is also very good.
My negative thoughts surrounding the upstairs areas are that it is in need of refurbishment. The carpets are in need of changing, carpets are dirty and sticky underfoot which, in turn, makes the surrounding area smell unpleasant. Also, the windows need cleaning inside and out which would make the areas look a little brighter too.

Reply from Maree Leadbeater, Marketing Manager at Bowood Court Care Home

Thank you for your kind words about our dedicated team and the care your sister receives at Bowood Court. It's wonderful to hear she feels happy, respected, and well looked after. We appreciate your feedback regarding the upstairs areas. Maintaining a clean and comfortable environment is a priority, and we are reviewing refurbishment plans, including carpets and window cleaning, to improve the space for residents and visitors. If you'd like to discuss anything further or meet our management team, we'd be happy to arrange a time. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Most of the staff are very good with my mum but on occasions, she has looked dishevelled, hair not brushed and her fingernails dirty. I wonder then whether she's had a wash, shower, etc. Also, her room on occasion has looked unclean stains on the carpet including urine on one occasion. Also, her commode
was soiled on toilet seat. Also mum is paying a lot of money, it should be better.

Overall my experience has been disappointing. My wife comes home from seeing her mum and she has had to complain to staff and management. Moat Hours seems to be reactive as opposed to proactive when her mum first went into the home 2 years ago.
In December, she complained about the tiredness (lack
of) of her room, the stained carpet and the smell of urine (twice). When you complain something is done. There is a noticeable lack of staff compared to 2 years ago.

My father has vascular dementia and Alzheimer's so has challenging and changing care needs. The staff at Bowood Court Care Home, particularly the carers, adapt to his changing needs and always keep in contact with the family to explain how his care plan will change. All of the care team are friendly
