Fir Close

from S A (Sister of Resident) published on 3 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I was in touch with the Manager from Fir Close Care Home before my sister arrived from hospital, she is a very nice lady. She is very polite and friendly and my sister is very happy at Fir Close, they all look after the residents very well, and the carers are very friendly with visitors to the home.
I love going and I always come away feeling very happy that my sister has very well-trained staff looking after all her needs. It's a brilliant home.

from J E (Relative of Resident) published on 3 March 2025

Overall the staff are very friendly, caring and kind but often under pressure due to staff shortages.
Understandably, the property is very old and a bit dated but some of the rooms could do with some maintenance.

Reply from Diane Smith, Director at The Old Rectory

Thank you for taking the time to complete this review. We have taken on board your comments about the rooms and have added them on to our refurbishment schedule. We have also reviewed our staffing levels and in consultation with the manager, we are happy with the staffing levels but this does not account for unexpected absences and therefore we will be enhancing our current levels of bank staff.

We cannot fault The Old Rectory and the care that mum is getting. Mum's health and well being have improved hugely in the short time that she has been a resident. The staff are wonderful, and are so supportive of mum's needs, but also of us her family. The manager has been absolutely brilliant, and
so helpful, and we are always made to feel welcome when we visit. The home is warm, cosy and friendly, clean and tidy. There are always activities for residents to join in with which mum absolutely loves, and she is also enjoying the social interactions with the other residents and staff. We feel reassured as a family that mum is in the best hands and mum is the happiest she has been for a long time.

Very friendly staff, the care home is always clean. Mum is a vegetarian, no meat or fish. The kitchen sometimes struggles with this, there will be many more vegetarians and vegans in the future. So please no more sausage rolls, Mum will not eat them.

We went to visit my grandson on his birthday, 1-6-24. We were made most welcome, we took him out for a couple of hours, when we got back they had done us a small buffet and a birthday cake. It was very special as all the staff had made an effort.
Thank you all for your time and dedication.

I have always found the staff to be helpful and caring. During my mother's palliative care I could not have wished for more and the dignity at the end was outstanding. The management had improved dramatically over recent months and staff were more 'visable'. There seemed to be a better structure to
everything. I'm never sure why residential homes find it necessary to sit residents around the walls. How can there be easy interaction with each other, other than meal times.

My friend was at Seacroft for ten months. The staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble. Visitors are made to feel welcome if you do have any concerns you feel able to voice them and know you are listened to. The care and love my friend was given was lovely and I felt supported too. The last week
of her life she received the love and care that we would all want. I'm now a volunteer at Seacrodt as I love to go there.

home and staff.

My nan joined this care home around January time, she has dementia and recently lost her husband. She was nervous about leaving home but I can honestly say, she settled so quickly, she has wonderful friends and loves talking to everyone. Her room is beautiful, you can add anything you like to it to
make it her own. The best part about this care home is the staff, they always go above and beyond for her and our family. We always feel welcome, have a laugh and a chat. I can leave knowing my nan is in the best of hands. Overall. the staff absolutely make this place.
