Elstree View Care Home - Avery Collection

from Julie L (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother initially arrived at Elstree for respite care in July 2024, after she had had a fall and broken her hip. As she has been so happy there and well looked after, she decided to stay permanently. My mother is very sociable and could sometimes get very lonely at home, so it's been wonderful to
see how much happier she is now. She has made lots of lovely friends and the staff are outstanding. They all genuinely care and nothing is too much trouble. All her medical needs are looked after by the excellent in-house nurses and the accommodation is newly furnished to a high-spec. My mother really enjoys the food and the entertainment laid on is regular and to a high standard. The surrounding gardens are very pretty and a nice place to have tea in the afternoons when the weather is nice. My family and I couldn't be happier with the way my mother is being cared for and feel very lucky to have found Elstree. Thank you to all the staff for making my mother's transition so smooth!

Reply from Stevie Pugsley, Director of Community Relations at Elstree View Care Home - Avery Collection

It's wonderful to hear how well your mom has adjusted to life at Elstree View after her fall. It must have been a tough time initially, but it sounds like she's found a truly supportive and nurturing environment. The fact that she's made so many lovely friends and feels genuinely cared for is such a comfort to us.The combination of great medical care, high-quality accommodation, and enjoyable activities really seems to be making a big difference in her happiness and well-being. It's clear the staff have been incredible in making her feel welcomed and at ease, which can sometimes be the most important factor when making such a big transition.

Dad's Care Home was originally known as 'Sunrise' it was taken over by 'Signature' and latterly it's run by 'Avery'. The home has recently had a complete makeover in all communal areas and bedrooms; it looks really luxurious. The Home is on two floors and guests with dementia, needing more intensive
care, live on the second floor. The Care Home has always been very welcoming and attentive. Especially the home's Manager and her staff, who have all been wonderful to my father, throughout his stay. The medical support has been excellent and communication is very good, too. Picturesque setting at Elstree View and adequate parking. We are very happy and we thoroughly recommend this Home. I do have concerns that some key staff have left and this could have been avoided. Overall, Elstree View are doing a great job, thank you.

Reply from Stevie Pugsley, Director of Community Relations at Elstree View Care Home - Avery Collection

It sounds like you've had a positive experience with Elstree View, It's great to hear that the care, environment, and overall communication have been excellent. The makeover of the communal areas and bedrooms must make a huge difference in creating a more comfortable and luxurious environment. It's also reassuring to know that the manager and staff have been particularly attentive to your dad's needs.

My parents moved into the home 12 years ago, when they were still active and mobile. They enjoyed their independence while at the same time feeling safe in a protected environment. As they became less able to fend for themselves, they relied more on the care and services offered to them, especially
as illnesses began to surface. I have always found the staff friendly and caring and always there to help. Now that my mother is on her own, she still feels secure, receiving all the care that she needs. I feel happy that she is being well looked after and I can visit her at any time.

Reply from Stevie Pugsley, Director of Community Relations at Elstree View Care Home - Avery Collection

It sounds like Elstree View has really been a good fit for your parents, offering them the independence they valued while also providing the care they needed as their health changed. It's wonderful to hear that your mother still feels secure and well cared for, even after your father's passing. That sense of safety and comfort, especially in a time of transition, is so important.

My mum started her time at Elstree View in Assisted Living and has now been in Orchids for a year. Her care is wonderful. The staff are kind and caring and my mum is very content and happy. They seem to know what she needs and when and you can see by and way mum responds to the carers she trusts and
loves them. When she can, she joins in with activities but she is happiest in her room being cared for. Thank you to all the staff in Orchids and to all the staff who help and support her.

Reply from Stevie Pugsley, Director of Community Relations at Elstree View Care Home - Avery Collection

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful message. It means the world to all of us here at Elstree View, especially the team in The Orchids, to know that your mum feels happy, safe, and cared for. We feel truly privileged to be part of her journey and to provide the support she needs. Seeing her content and knowing that she trusts us is the greatest reward we could ask for. Our team strives to make each day as comfortable and joyful as possible for our residents, and it's incredibly encouraging to hear that those efforts are felt and appreciated.

The staff are always on hand and very attentive to my father and stepmother's needs. Nothing appears to be too much trouble, and the staff are always responsive to questions raised. The quality of the food is satisfactory but the service could improve slightly by serving hot food. Overall, very happy
with the service provided.

Reply from Stevie Pugsley, Director of Community Relations at Elstree View Care Home - Avery Collection

Thank you for your kind words. We're so pleased to hear that your father and stepmother feel well cared for and that our team has been attentive and responsive to their needs. That's exactly the standard we strive for every day. We also appreciate your comments about the food service. Feedback like this is incredibly valuable, and we will certainly look into ways we can ensure meals are served hotter and more promptly. Your suggestions help us grow and improve.

My relative has moved into Elstree View Care home in early March when she was discharged from a recent admission to hospital. The whole process has been brilliant. All the staff that I have met so far are friendly, helpful and welcoming. The admission process was done so efficiently - from viewing the
Home to admission was less than a week. Her care has been exemplary. The food is plentiful and tasty with good choice. The building, communal areas and individual rooms are beautiful - freshly decorated with continuing decorating happening in some areas. The entertainment is varied and staff help her to become involved in activities, if she wishes. The clinical and medical care is regular and far easier to access than when she was at home. We feel she is much better looked after 24/7 and much safer in the Home than with a carer in her own home.

Reply from Stevie Pugsley, Director of Community Relations at Elstree View Care Home - Avery Collection

We are pleased that your overall experience was a positive one. We understand that the process for finding the right care setting for your loved one can be difficult and we aim to make this as easy and stress free as possible. Thank you for your feedback on our newly refurbished communal areas and bedrooms , we are very proud of our home and glad you are as well. I will be sure to share your feedback with the team.

from D K (Son of Resident) published on 8 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Having looked around a few care homes locally I was impressed with how the place felt as I walked in. The reception area was bright and open and seemed very grand with a welcome smile from the concierge. The Bistro area is a very nice place to meet people in a more quiet setting to chat. The list of
daily and weekly events provided was comprehensive and I was surprised at how much space there was and differing areas for residents to either sit and relax or be part of communal activities. Not the usual sitting/ dining area only. Residents are encouraged to join in the daily events and I feel there are more carers / general staff around than actual residents which means there is a calm atmosphere with people on hand at all times. From the perspective of someone who visits rather than resides, I can recommend it.

My mother came to stay at Acacia Mews for a 2 week respite stay after admission to hospital. The staff at Acacia were all very friendly, knowledgable and efficient. Her transfer from hospital and got her settled in very well. They are all very caring. The home is warm, clean and comfortable and is well

Chorleywood Manor.has provided a comfortable, safe and very well run environment for our relative.
The staff are all lovely, caring, and always treat the residents as individuals.
Any initial "teething problems" were promptly sorted.
We have spent many hours visiting our relative, also taking her
to various appointments, hospital, outings etc. and all necessary arrangements, including medication needed while away from Chorleywood Manor were carried out cheerfully and efficiently. We were never made to feel a nuisance when visiting.
Thank you to all!
(Have given "safety" a lower score than is really deserved because during a recent power cut there is no alternative lighting source in rooms/bathrooms should power fail and panic in some residents could have resulted in injury.)
