Bourn View Care Home - Avery Healthcare

from L J (Partner of Resident) published on 17 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

Visited on 10th February - Monday. He falls a lot and his mat was not plugged in. He was served lunch in room & his chair was not adjusted so he could eat easily. In dining room, 1 lady against wall had a plate of food & was incapable of feeding herself. Food was all over her table. No one was feeding
her. There seemed a staff shortage. For the feed being paid care should be better.

As usual the family are always happy in the knowledge that the resident is safe, secure and comfortable. Staff are always friendly and professional, they assist us in transferring the resident from the main communal lounge to the quieter room for our visit. They always respond positively to our requests
and if need be, follow then up with a telephone update.

Review of

St Giles Care Home - Avery Healthcare

from D D (Wife of Resident) published on 28 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

The staff are amazing going the extra mile, they really do care for the residents. The lower floor with fewer Dementia residents has a lot more daily activity. Unfortunately the upper floor, mainly Dementia residents spend most time sat in front of the television, shouting out of boredom. Dementia patients
need daily activities, stimulation, comfort, kind reassurance. They don't like being alone, there's need for 1 staff member in daily attendance.
The food is in great need of improvement, so much waste, tasteless dry and rarely fresh greens. I have asked on numerous occasions for gravy or sauce, this falls on deaf ears. Carrots and potatoes hard (most of the residents have very few teeth). Mashed cheese and potatoes, surely an easy option. I requested again numerous times for custard with bananas or any fruit that can be mashed, again no.
The rooms have little space for special equipment, ie. sling and tilt chairs. Excellent care home but lacking in the Dementia department.

Reply from Ruth Orton, Home Manager at St Giles Care Home - Avery Healthcare

My mom had been at Clare Court for almost 4 years. She fought many stages of dementia and was always treated with utmost dignity and respect. The last few weeks leading to my mom's passing have been challenging. The nursery team have been amazing and although in the end, my mom stayed in hospital for
her final days the nursing team put a plan together immediately after I approached them so that she could be cared for pallatively if it was needed. They were so supportive and understanding. I thank them all. The whole team in Clare Court.

My mother was welcomed with open arms by all the staff at Avalon Court Care Home. Each person, friend, member of staff, I say friend because that's how you are treated and become. My mom is encouraged at every opportunity to join in, has regular contact from staff to check all is well. If there is the
slightest problem it is always acted upon promptly. Mom's only complaint is that very occasionally the food isn't up to standard, you can't please everybody all the time! However, apologies are always made and food is changed without a problem. My mother has thrived.

Very good staff make this home so successful. Excellent food and activities. A larger bistro area would enhance the experiences of residents as would more activities in the evening. Patients suffering from dementia are given activities that are interesting and stimulating.

Always a lovely, happy atmosphere whenever I visit my dad. It's wonderful seeing my dad so happy and content and joining in with all the wonderful activities. He absolutely adores the ladies who come in for a sing-along. He also loves most of the staff. Gaynor gets a special mention as she's so genuine,
joyful and so genuine in her care and understanding of all the residents, particularly getting the best out of the residents who have dementia. If I had to choose one thing that's negative my dad would love a double bed in place of the standard single bed.

Reply from Victoria Cruxton, Manager at Knowle Gate Care Home - Avery Healthcare

Thank you for your lovely feedback, the team will be happy with such positive feedback. We can certainly look at getting a larger bed for your Dad, please come and speak to me or one of the team to arrange this.

My mother-in-law has gone from being lonely in her own home to a home that has a great social life with brilliant care! And an entertainment crew that keep the residents at the heart of all planning! It's amazing to see my mother-in-law positively grow and make new friends and to see her embark on a
new journey, rather than us thinking it was the end of something. Thank you Avalon.

Mum was admitted to Knowle Gate Care Home after a hospital stay. The staff helped her settle in and have given her lots of encouragement to settle in. While at Knowle Gate we can see a marked improvement in her health. She has become more sociable again and enjoys taking part in activities. She is walking
more and eating so much better. The team at Knowle Gate could not do more to improve Mum's wellbeing. So pleased this is the choice made for her.

My father has recently moved into Albion Court and so far the staff has been very high in their standards of care and quality also the activities coordinator has been so helpful, actually 10 out of 10 as has all the other staff the home is so clean it's like home from home good on the cleaners for doing
an excellent job the management is so lovely especially the manager for taking time to show us around on our first meeting as she was ready to leave but she stayed for us to give us a tour. I'd give the home a 5-star review thanks for taking care of Dad.
