My husband stayed in Ferndene Care Home after coming out of Hospital. He was very satisfied with the care. The staff were very friendly and caring. He enjoyed the activities and the food was very varied and tasty. He is hoping to go back for day care.

Reply from Tracy Davison, Regional Manager at Ferndene Care Home

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are really pleased that your husband enjoyed his stay at Ferndene and we look forward to seeing him again on day care. I will of course inform the Manager and the team of your review.

My Dad arrived at Heeley Bank Care Home from the Northern General Hospital on 2nd December 2024 he was too frail and ill to manage at home any longer . I have to say I was apprehensive at first, but from the moment he arrived I felt reassured due to how welcoming and caring all the staff were. Dad is
still being cared for here and the level of care is excellent they treat him with dignity and respect, he is kept very comfortable and cosy. I often have to visit in the evenings after work and the staff always have a cheery word and often offer me a cup of tea and update me on how dad has been that day. Everyone works extremely hard here and you can tell they want to do the best for the residents. I Just want to shout out the biggest Thank You to everyone who works at Heeley Bank for everything you are doing for dad.

Reply from Beth Etherington, General Manager at Heeley Bank Care Home

Thank you very much for your kind words, I will ensure this is handed over to the team.

Heeley Bank Care Home has always had a good feel about it. My mother has been in residence for 4 years now. In the month of February 2025 the Home advised me that my mother had witnessed a fall and seemed OK but a medical nurse had been sent for to check that all was well. I was to be informed of any
developments. Another time I reported that my mother's engagement ring had slipped off and gone missing, this was found and returned to me. The staff interact with my mother in a friendly and respectful manner and they always make time to answer any queries I may have. I would recommend Heeley Bank Care Home to anyone looking for somewhere for their elderly relative to live.

Reply from Tracy Davison, Regional Manager at Heeley Bank Care Home

My Dad has been a resident at Rutland Manor Nursing Home for over 2 years and after him being in a couple of care homes prior it is lovely to have him in such a caring environment, where the staff are all respectful, caring and helpful not only to Dads needs but to seeing Mum and family are fully involved
where we can be. Must acknowledge the cooks too who make the most delicious meals and for inviting us to stay to have a meal with Dad. Thank you to everyone at Rutland for doing what you do so brilliantly.

Lovely friendly and helpful staff greet you on entry Monday to Friday, and waiting for admission at weekends has greatly improved. The atmosphere is warm and as you go round the home all staff are helpful and friendly.
Any concerns we have are listened to and acted upon. I know my husband is safe there
and well looked after.
The only concern is that my husband has little social interaction with the other residents, by choice, but all staff chat with him when time permits.
The rooms in the home are always clean and the laundry system is very effective. The manager is very approachable. We are both highly satisfied with the home.

Took time for Mum to adjust to being there but has now accepted things and is encouraged to partake in planned activities.
Staff are kind and respond to Mums needs, although Mum is sometimes reluctant to ask for help.
Mum enjoys her meals. The menus offering a selection of 2 alternatives for main
and desert are displayed which enables her to make choices.

When we were looking for a care home I had a certain criteria. The main one being how the staff interacted with other residents. We looked around a few homes and wasn't impressed but then we found Heeley Bank. They are very friendly and let us do mums room how she wanted it so it was familiar to her.
My mum is very happy there and she is well taken care of. I go regularly so I know she is ok. My mum's only complaint is the food. She likes proper home cooked food. From the cleaners to the managers they all look after my mum.

Ferndene Care Home

from I A (Daughter of Resident) published on 13 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Mum has been in Ferndene since May 2024. I know she is safe and being looked after. Her room is clean and big enough for the family to visit. It is always warm for her. The staff are friendly and will make time to sort any requests we may have. The only downside is, it can become quite noisy in the
lounge at times, depending on what mood the residents are in. However, when it does become too noisy we can just ask for mum to be moved back to her own room. This is never a problem, as soon as the staff have time to move her they will.

The staff are also good with my dad, he spends a lot of time visiting mum and will always ask him if he'd like a drink or offer him food. They have different activities throughout the week and also treatments for residents such as hair and pedicures. The treatments are an additional cost but not expensive.

Reply from Tracy Davison, Regional Manager at Ferndene Care Home

Thank you for your lovely review. We will make sure it is shared with the whole team. There are quieter lounges within the home that staff would be happy to show you on your next visit, should you want an alternative to returning to mum's room.

I would like to thank the staff team for doing everything possible to help my dad settle in. Following an illness, dad was no longer able to return home to my mum. All of the management recognised and respected how difficult this situation was for my parents after 61 years of marriage and dealt with
them in a caring way. The process was made as smooth as possible and the whole staff team have been open, friendly and there for us as a family to answer our many questions. When we have had a query, staff have been very quick to respond on the phone, face-to-face or by email. Dad's room is comfortable and we were able to make it as homely as dad wants. He has especially enjoyed the bird feeder that we added to his window, after a suggestion from one of the staff and he loves to watch the feathery comings and goings. We were delighted by how quickly the staff got to know dad, his likes, dislikes and little quirks. He has been treated with respect, dignity and a smile by all staff.

We moved our Mum to Ferndene a couple of years ago. She has become happier here and the staff always have time for us to ask questions. Her care is excellent from the cleaners, laundry, office, maintenance, assistants and nursing staff. I hope I didn't miss anyone out because they all deserve a mention.

My mum is 95 and been a resident for two years, she is well cared for and looked after by caring staff, who are on hand to do anything for her. She had a hairdresser to occasionally cut her hair and a chiropodist to see to her feet. Her medication is administered by the nurses regularly and if she needs
it the doctor is called promptly.

Wonderful, accessible location. Grounds, buildings, and facilities are all clean and well maintained. Carers, admin staff and everyone working their is a pleasure to deal with. They all go around with big smiles on their faces and do their best to make residents and visitors feel welcome. My father
has issues, regarding his residency there and can be quite difficult to handle and not the nicest person to deal with though this hasn't phased any of them and they continue to try and find ways to make him feel more comfortable and improve his quality of life. Thank you!

The Poplars Nursing & Residential Care Home

from Scott M (Grandson of Resident) published on 7 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

It has gone way downhill since my previous grandmother was in there in 2014. My auntie, father and sister go on my behalf now, because where my nanna is now where other residents are and they upset other residents who have "worse dementia" than my grandmother and one even screamed down my ear and I'm
autistic and it was not pleasant, but that was the only time the staff actually did something about it! Not only that, every time we go, the staff or dementia residents always take my nanna's stuff and never to be seen again. When we or my auntie go to complain about this staff do nothing about it and my auntie has complained too many times now to the "manager" and does absolutely nothing about it! Also the staff are still on their phones rather than doing their job, which if that's the case why are they in this job? So please send someone to check that place, because the good rating on CQC I think is faulty.

Reply from Mandy Reeves, Operations Manager at The Poplars Nursing & Residential Care Home

Thank you for sharing your comments with ourselves and providing me the opportunity to respond. I have spoken with the home manager and she has advised me this matter is under investigation having been raised by a relative. I understand it is difficult when you visit the home if you are on the area where your nanna lives as sometimes people's behaviour when living with Dementia may be unpredictable at times. Perhaps it may be more suitable to encourage your relative to have your visit in a different part of the home if they are willing. At the home, we record all care given to residents on a MPOC, which is a handheld phone and all staff have their own device which is allocated by the company. If there is any further information we can provide for you, please do not hesitate to ask the manager or ask for my email address and contact me direct. Thank you once again for sharing your concerns with me.
